Over the last few days I've seen an extraordinary number of old cars, 'survivors' rather than cherished classics obviously in every day use and showing signs of their age but still remarkably good for their years - everything from a couple of T reg Corsas (near identical funnily enough) to 25 year Japanese pick-ups, 22 year old Rover 200 coupe (that one that was really quite fast), Mk1 Mondeo, G reg Sierra to a K plate Range Rover.
I've noticed quite a lot of late '80s Mercs around recently.
On our recent holiday up North there were a surprising number of foreign registered ones of early 80s vintage, usually S Classes.

Don't know where they're all coming from - this weekend spotted yet another 20 year old Corsa - same bright blue as the first two, a Y plate (suffix) Trumph Acclaim, an S plate Vectra (a long time since I've seen one of that generation), a T plate Fiat Coupe (lovely! - but still a survivor car not a pampered classic) and most unusual of all an R plate (as in 1976, not 1997) Bedford CF van - very down at heal with lots of patching, but still on the road - all in our small town (pop 5000).

I saw an Aston Martin Vantage, 2016 vintage, yesterday. I can't remember the model designation but it was a bright metallic mid-blue with orange highlights around, for example, the intake. It also had a GT3 spec wing and clearly a very naughty exhaust - even though it drove the opposite direction at around 45mph in traffic.

Saw a Tesla Model X in St Andrews yesterday evening. First one I've been up close to (it was parked) and they're not as big as I expected, at least not when they're in a pale metallic. It also helps when the roofline drops towards the rear. They are long though.
The biggest surprise was that it was Belgian registered. I wonder what they did about recharging on the way up here.

Followed part of the way home tonight by an Alfa 156 in the ubiquitous pale gold colour they all seemed to be painted back in the day. Also spotted a green one-eyed TR7 going into Glasgow a bit later on - both light pods were up ( a minor miracle in itself IIRC) but only the offside bulb was actually illuminated.

There were a couple in Leeds this morning. I still think it is pretty huge. Seemed Range Rover Sport sized .

VW Arteon. It was white, but even so, I think it's a decent looking car.

A new M5 just outside Daventry, UK registered and covered in the swirly stuff. Wasn't hanging around and sounded good, very purposeful without any silly pops and bangs.

The guy also filled up a blue Ferrari Daytona an hour or so earlier.

Another Silicon Valley trip yesterday. Saw an M240i convertible with the roof down, overtaking a C43AMG convertible with the roof up. Saw an orange McLaren P1- first I've seen here I think, and also saw an Audi R8 which sounded like the V10, but was what I'd describe as Fiat 500 powder blue. Not a colour I'd choose! Too many high end 911's to list as well.
Tons of M4's this time and a Jaguar F Type R. Rare enough sight here and looked really good.

I'm liking how subtle that looks. And it sounds rather naughty, too.

It could do with a bit more width around the rear arches, but I do like that it's subtle. Good to see that it has decent equipment levels as standard (Full Merino, surround, HUD, Alcantara headlining etc.
Quite a bit of want actually, but it's a £90k+ car with a couple of options, so would really need close to M6 levels of discount to be a serious option.

I like the fact that the front wing opening has moved up and is integrated with the crease line instead of the rather awkward standard vent which is low down.
It is an awful lot of money though. Don't think I could part with more than £100K for a 5 series.

I'm happy for it not to have OTT rear arches - its one of the best features of them compared with M3/4s.
Isn't the vent on lesser models a fake - I remember we had a long thread about it in respect of the 4 series on the old forum.

It's supposed to allow air to flow out of the wheel arch helping the overall aerodynamics.

When we were in Perth on Sunday and drove past the Ford garage there I couldn't help but notice, and be surprised about, the 15 unregistered Ford Focus RS' they had lurking around out the front.

Today's spot was an immaculate-looking silver Passat W8 estate with an elderly couple in it, waiting to turn on to the main road as I drove past. Clocked the grille badge.
Now there's a car I had certainly forgotten existed.

A 193-something Wolseley saloon on Saturday. No vintage car meets on nearby I was aware of and the driver was on his own, so no clue where he may have been going.
Bodywork was gleaming, hinting it has been well looked after. Nice to see.

I spotted a McLaren yesterday. It was baby blue but I have absolutely no idea what model apart from it looking like a current one rather than, say, a 12C for example.

Had a Discovery in front of me yesterday evening. They must have the smallest brake lights of any car in history. Each side seems to be illuminated by a single LED

Just seen an orange McLaren in Tesco car park. 17 plate and it was a something S. Not a fan.

Earlier this evening I had the misfortune to approach our local Tesco car park behind a recent Suzuki Ignis - presumably the latest iteration. It is HORRIBLE! An overly tall, bulbous, squidgy looking blancmange of a car, with no visible redeeming qualities whatsoever. I honestly felt quite queasy at the sight of it, I kid you not.

A white 996 GT3 RS with red wheels and decals, sat in traffic near Alcester. I hadn't seen one of those on the road for several years before today!

Saw a few interesting cars yesterday, an XE S alongside a 440i Coupe at a set of traffic lights. I frequently see a Gulia Quadrifoglio whilst walking, it seems like a common sight, but unfortunately it is the same one on a 66-plate. It sounds fabulous, far better than the desperate-sounding F80 M3.

I saw what I think was an XE, but it was fully disguised in the swirly stickers.
Also saw a new XF estate in Castle Brom, It was white with little wheels which didn't help with the looks, but it's got the same terrible looking stretched rear that the saloon has when viewed from the rear 3 qtrs. Dissapointing as I thought the estate would look a lot better than the saloon.
