Saw my first on-the-road non pre-production Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport Turbo at Central Six on Coventry
In black. Front looks sleek, handsome and smart, reminded me of a Mazda 6 though, but the back is quite bland and I really do not like to extra addition to the rear lights into the rear bodywork. Doesn't work well and looks an afterthought. This was a low spec model with no body-kit, deeper chin and side spoilers.
It might be worse to drive than it's predecessor but I still like the current Mondeo for looks in that sector and the new Mazda 6 does the rear end so much better than the new Insignia. Really rather disappointed now having seen one close up.

Satruday - I saw a new Fiesta parked in the local high street. Did a double-take at first as approaching it from the front, it's very similar to the superseded one; was just the shape of the headlights that made me curious at first

Saw a new Golf GTI (the facelifted one) this morning. Looked really good, much better than the R I spotted the other day in the metallic white they've stupidly replaced silver with.

Yesterday I saw a Range Rover Velar. I'm still not sure how that fits into the range without stealing sales from something else, size-wise it's just an elongated Evoque isn't it?
I also saw a 1989 facelift Nissan 300ZX being driven in a downpour.

In the last couple of weeks I've seen several Merc GLSs (that's the full size box-shaped SUV). I presume they must have some massive discounts on offer.
In addition the roads round here are overrun with white 520d estates as BMW are clearly providing the transport for the womens British Open golf at Kingsbarns, just along the coast from St Andrews.

Saw this parking in the bus stop bay on Nicolson Street in Edinburgh on Friday. The bay is directly outside the Scientology building, into which the driver disappeared after disembarking. This car dates from 1899 apparently; any ideas what it is? (I know, but only because I cheated and looked up the (hand-written!!) registration plate; it's also why I've blanked it out! That looks more like 1918 to early '20s era to me. It also looks American. I realised earlier I had neglected to answer you RR! According to the DVLA it's a De Dion-Bouton Type D which, I must confess, I have never heard of before. The 'De Dion' part rings a distant, very quiet and American bell, but not to the point of actual recognition. All the information and images I can find of a motor car with that name bear no resemblance to this vehicle however; the only references/photos I can find are of the De Dion Vis-à-vis Type D 1899, this having a fore-and-aft bench seat arrangement with the steering wheel in the centre of the car! A very odd-looking arrangement indeed. One sold at Bonham's last year; see here

It is nice though, whatever it is. Heard a Merlin engine through the cloud today, saw what I thought could have been a classic a while ago but no idea what it was.

On Tuesday the most hiddeous Gemballa style (not sure if it was Gemballa but it was that look) Cayenne, however it didn't stop there, it had a gold glitter paint job, truly horrendous and how anyone can drive that without a hint of embarrassment, is beyond me!

De Dion were one of the leading motor manufacturers in the late 19th / early 20th century, but their atmospheric valved engines and hand oprated clutches soon became outdated. They attempted to modernise and even introduced a V8 engine, but the whole business practically fizzled out after WW1.

Today I saw a red Honda civic with a very large red L on the roof (similar to a Dominos Pizza delivery sign in size), being driven in a manner which would suggest that the driver had never been in a car before: 15mph in a 30mph limit and when he wanted to move over a lane he almost came to a stop and waited for cars to pass before pulling out. He stopped at the red lights but took an eternity to even move an inch when they turned green. There was no-one else in the car and, shall we say, he may not have been aware of all the rules and regulations relating to driving in this country.

Spotted this morning outside my work a Mitsubishi Levante (looks ok for what it is) and a Merc AMG GTS coupe.
I also followed a base model, white painted, shirt-button wheel equipped Porsche Macan and it looked incredibly bland.

In Silicon Valley today and not driving, so saw plenty... A Ferrari F430, 2 911 GT's, an SL 63 AMG, an Aston Martin DB7, a brand new M3, an M4, brand new unlicensed M5, an M6, (does that make a full house?) tons of Teslas including the X type, 3 Maserati coupes and the guy I was meeting with had a Tessa model S, (but he had to leave so I didn't get a spin in it).
There was also a really nice looking Cayman S and an Audi S3 Saloon? I didn't know such a thing exists...

Hmmm just noticed that. Obviously it was a Maserati!
In the queue heading towards the Tay Bridge last night I was alongside a new Porsche Cayman. Dropped the window to listen to it as I could clearly hear it idling. When the car moved away it was quite quiet but what I did hear was a terrible noise when they lifted off (from about 25mph). It was very reminiscent of a VW Beetle on the overrun and not at all flattering.

This morning we have had two "races" outside the office. The first was the local red (but very Q car) Golf R Estate v another local Audi S3 Sportsback in solid grey - it was a rolling start from about 30 just after the speed camera, followed by lots of noise, 2 gear changes and loads of pops and bangs. I reckon they are both chipped but the Audi looked like it won by a smidgin (at a terminal speed of probably 75/80).
The second was a "gent" in a current full fat RR who took on a Harley Davidson. The American won but I reckon half of Glasgow must have heard it. I don't know what their beef was with each other but it was pretty full on.
An entertaining Wednesday!

An entertaining Wednesday! Presumably the gnashing of toothless junkie gums in Possil drowned out the noise of that tussle - I certainly didn't hear it, and I'm only a couple of miles away as the crow (or glider!!) flies.

RR Velar, what a fantastic looking car.

Over the last few days I've seen an extraordinary number of old cars, 'survivors' rather than cherished classics obviously in every day use and showing signs of their age but still remarkably good for their years - everything from a couple of T reg Corsas (near identical funnily enough) to 25 year Japanese pick-ups, 22 year old Rover 200 coupe (that one that was really quite fast), Mk1 Mondeo, G reg Sierra to a K plate Range Rover.
