Get the bits on the Velar that make it the fabulous looking thing it is in all the press shots than its a really expensive car. Sat in one in Geneva and was blown away by it, sat in one at Goodwood and was far more unimpressed in normal spec.

Saturday on the M5 a Lexus LFA on trade plates. Driver giving it the beans as far as possible between slower cars which there were lots of. I thought delivery drivers were supposed to be respectful of someone else's car.

An older Volvo (840?) Pickup truck. Looked very strange, something like this: The Volvo dealer in Pirbright had a special 145 pick-up made way back in the 1970's when my parents first started out with Volvos. It must have cost a small fortune (at the time) to make

We spent a week in the Far North and drove on parts of the new-fangled NC500 (basically a loop of the north of Scotland starting at Inverness and going round the top) quite often. I was hoping to see some tasty machinery but actually the most exciting was either a current shape RS6 or a Porsche 993 911 that was making progress. There were quite a few Jag F Types too. The most interesting thing I spotted was yesterday afternoon in the town a couple of miles from my house when I turned into the road home with a 1964 Ford Galaxie coming the other way. When I realised it was heading the same way as me I turned off, let it past and followed it (and its 2017 3 series Touring minder). The village I live in is basically a crossroads and when the Ford set off across that he gave it the beans in 2nd & 3rd and, oh my, what a fantastic noise. It's clearly not suited to the country roads around where I live but I did follow it a bit further and it actually turned off onto an even narrower road so I'm guessing it must live locally. Anyway it looked very much like this one (although I'm certain it's not, however it was a racer and had a cage) news.classiccars.com/british-racers-collection-headed-bonhams-auction/

Last night I saw my first Mercedes GLA45 in black and it looked remarkably good. It didn't have the jacked up stance of the normal GLA and it somehow just looked a bit brutal.

We are in Cornwall currently and I think just about all of this country's VW T4 and T5s are here. They were in the far NE of Scotland last week.
I also realised that all the locals that have 4x4s have Land Rover products - usually Disco 3/4 or Freelander. There were no X5, Q5/7 or ML/GL, etc that were obviously locally owned.
For normal transport the French seem to be the main provider.
I did have 1 strange moment when we drove down a dead end single track road to a place called Achlyness and part way along there were some cars lying abandoned (in the usual style up there) including 2 E30 3 series - a 325i Sport and a 318iS, both in ok nick (probably rusty underneath though) and potentially worth a decent amount.

Bizarrely, I saw my first one today, also black. It's a shame they apparently don't drive very nicely, as it looked a lot better than the boggo A45. Saying that, though, my BiL has a standard one and it feels alright from the passenger seat whenever I go in it...

Also spotted a new Fiesta. Did they not have time to do the front? Looks exactly the same, apart from a different fairy light arrangement.

I think the standard GLA looks awful - raised ride height and squashed roof. I know it reputedly drives badly but the Infiniti alternative (Q30) looks 100 times better.
Anyway I forgot I saw an Alfa Giulia QF in St Andrews on Sunday. It's the first Giulia I've had a chance to look at close up and wasn't as big as I was expecting. It looks lovely and I now really want a QF. Pity the nearest dealer is nearly 100 miles away

We were in St Andrews from Wednesday to Saturday and followed a Guilia QF out of St Andrews on Saturday. It was driven by a woman.

Was it in that darkish red the launch cars had? Yes, that's the one. It turned right towards Dundee on the A919

It was back In St Andrews the next day then, parked down Queens Gardens (the street across from the Church on South Street with Bank of Scotland on the corner).

Yesterday, on my home, I spotted something some distance ahead and straight away knew what it was, a 1912 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. It was making good progress along the A44 at 55 MPH (not bad for over 100 years old) so I turned off and followed it through Blockley and on through the lanes. I stuck my head out the window to hear it pull away from junctions, but of course the only sound was very faint from the vintage straight six. Glorious.

I briefly followed a Rover 100 (facelifted Metro) last night. Can't remember when I last saw one.

We saw a blue one last night, first one in that colour. Mrs Tim let it out of a side road so we could hear it!

I'm dissapointed with the sound it makes, its crying out for a decent (switchable) exhaust imo. My neighbour likes to blip the throttle a couple of times when he's pulled into his drive, but even then, it doesn't sound as good as I'd hope and must be pretty quiet inside.

I think the one we saw had an aftermarket exhaust. You're right though, it was one of the things we noticed about it. After our test drive we came to the conclusion that we'll get the back boxes sawn off the M5 at some point as its from the era before manufacturers started the current trend for loud startup noises. The Mustang did sound ok from inside though (as does the M5 when you're really going for it).

Very nice, especially parking on the street on a wet day - that's bound to knock £50k off the value!!
It reminds me that this morning I saw an F430 with tricolore stripes lurking in the workshop of the motorbike place in my village.

Saw this parking in the bus stop bay on Nicolson Street in Edinburgh on Friday. The bay is directly outside the Scientology building, into which the driver disappeared after disembarking. This car dates from 1899 apparently; any ideas what it is? (I know, but only because I cheated and looked up the (hand-written!!) registration plate; it's also why I've blanked it out!

That looks more like 1918 to early '20s era to me. It also looks American.
