Fantastic choice and I'm sure you will be very happy.
Interested to see how much your RR goes up for as it's one of the models on my shortlist for the future (it's a long shortlist of very different motors and is a distant dream until my partners house sells and we get back down to 1 mortgage!)

Wow, excellent work, very well done! I may need a strong coffee before attempting to digest the spec, or the bits of them I care about, buying cars SH I don't worry myself too much about it! I love the current Panamera, and while I thought I would prefer the estate, I don't - to me the hatch Panamera ( and Taycan) look a lot better. I also think recent Porsche interiors are really good, I prefer their style to pretty much anything else out there that is vaguely attainable. So in my opinion you have done well I have been vaguely eyeing this model, idly as I reckon I have another 20k miles in the XFR before I get twitchy (its just been to Germany again for the nth time). I may well be down a path at work soon (here or elsewhere) where I can't really not drive some form of hybrid at least, ideally an EV, as my main car. So while I would prefer the V8, the hybrid is a good step into the modern world.... So much of my work is related to carbon reporting/reduction in fleet, and electrification consultancy and the tech around it, I wince when anyone asks what I drive now. Panameras - second hand - almost look like good value now 911's start over £100k! Most shockingly I recently saw (having not bothered to look previously) that Taycan's start around £70k. That genuinely shocked me - I expected even the start point to be well into 6 figures given 911 prices. Did you consider one of them???

You can get the Hybrid with 560hp or 780hp if you need more power. I started off thinking the Turbo S would be fun, but this one has plenty of performance for a road car, especially for the type of driving I do. I didn’t want a Taycan, but did have a good look around a Turbo S. It’s really small inside, not that easy to get into the front due to how far forward the B pillar is and it failed the sitting behind my driving position in style, I couldn’t even get in without moving the seat forward. So even if I’d seriously have considered an electric car, it wouldn’t have worked. I can understand having that thought in your role. Lindsay has added the sustainable procurement team to her current one and there’s a big push in her business to cut CO2, so a Hybrid sits better with her than something like an M5 competition. It didn’t have any part of my decision though.

I suspect it will be somewhere close to £55k, but the values are now dropping at the rate I expected when I bought it, so it will be sub £50k by early Autumn.

Was just reading about the test drive and was about to comment when I got further and saw you'd bought one. A lot happens when you don't catch up for a few days! Looks fantastic and with all that piety you can feel virtuous too. The Panamera is one of those cars that has aged well and still looks good today - even better than when it first came out. I love that colour and the all black interior suits it well too. I think we could rely on Martin not to chose the red on red on red interior..... I will be interested to hear how you find the change in driving height and style.

That genuinely shocked me - I expected even the start point to be well into 6 figures given 911 prices. Did you consider one of them??? The base Taycan is only good for about 160/170 miles and even the big battery version struggles to get much more than 200 miles in real life, no matter what they say. With the lack of charging infrastructure you can't afford to drop below about 40 miles of range before you find a charger: it's just too risky.

With the lack of charging infrastructure you can't afford to drop below about 40 miles of range before you find a charger: it's just too risky. I thought so. I detest everything about Tesla however (and increasingly the drivers) so I would not go that route despite the range! The way Porsche have gone higher voltage (is it 800 volts?) is interesting for speed of charging, and also potentially not overheating/chewing through power at high speed. When in Germany last week I instantly went to 110mph and stayed there ) or thereabouts) - it felt safe with a fair bit of traffic about on the usual undulations/corners, yet still quick enough to get somewhere. I don't know how BEV's handle that - I get the impression, very badly. My MPG for that segment went to 20-25 (from 30-35 in UK/Dutch/Belgian limits) but that's still pretty decent. If the battery range halves or worse at high speed cruise, I may have issues. And thus consider hybrid instead Messing with the regen I find quite fun...

I think its fairly well acknowledged that motorway/steady speed journeys are BEV's at their worst - carrying the penalty of weight without any regen to speak of so would expect a significant drop in real world range (25-30% I've heard as a reasonable adjustment in difference between 55-60 and 65-70 mph - go knows what the drop would be at 110mph but I expect a chunk more!
If you have the option to regularly charge a hybrid I think they are a good compromise for now

I think we could rely on Martin not to chose the red on red on red interior..... Was that a random thought or have you seen you seen the 4S Hybrid for sale in that colour. It is a nice spec and I do like Bordeaux red leather seats, but it really doesn’t work with red paint!

Any amusing thoughts on this one then: www.sytner.co.uk/vehicle-details/e9c8aa1e-de4b-446f-809b-64609d6f00dbIts at first glance very similar to mine, except a lot of stuff that is black on mine is silver on this one, and the red leather is too light/pinky - and not a good call with red paint (especially as the Jag red is quite a deep one and not too similar to primary shool paint). I wish I could reset the mileage on mine to be like this one however, I would miss my 2500rpm / 120mpg - 20-25MPG cruise

Too much chrome.
I did see an XJR 575 yesterday in grey, and though how subtle it looked (in a good way)

Lol - I recognise that Red on Red with Chrome XFR - lots to like (age, mileage, condition) but enough not to like to easily rule it out e I've also considered an XJR but then again my aforementioned 'shortlist' also includes everything from Maserati Granturismos, Jag F-Types, Panamera's (nothing as fancy as Martins!), Range Rovers, Velars etc - all dependent on what we (as a family) decide are the key requirements for a 2 car setup. Back to Martins choice though - great car, amazing spec and the colour combo is subtle which I like (especially the calliper colour delete - although I laugh that they charge for that/taste!)

They don’t charge you to paint the green callipers black, only if you have red ones. No idea why, but I’m just glad I have black ones.

Sorry about the thread hijack Martin - a friend of mine has a red XFR (14 reg IIRC) with red seats. He likes it. I have never admitted that ~I don;t really like the red seats either. As you say, too pink rather than deep maroon-y red (as was the red leather in older Jags). A huge number of late build XFR's seem to have red seats. I reckon that they must have had a warehouse full as nobody ever ordered them, so just shoved them on everything to use them up. I'd vote for a nice XJR (in normal or 575 spec).

I know I'm in the minority, but I do like to read the manual....mainly to ensure I don't miss any features/functions, but it's part of the new car experience imho. If the handover + manual isn't enough, I've also had in invite to a follow up 'masterclass' session. Not for me, but can see how it would be really useful. When I collected my last couple of cars, I could have given the salesperson a masterclass.... My Connect account has been set up (car is in privacy mode until collection), which give access to an excellent manual which also includes an interactive section (click on a section or a picture) and loads of videos, so I've already started looking through the manual....

All looks well thought-out.
I expect it is one of those days when trying to concentrate on day-job work is harder than normal... (like me before a VSCC event)

I have to say, it's been an excellent experience so far. They were great right through the Boxster ownership period and it has been nearly 5 years since we have dealt with them, but I get the same warm feeling of being really well valued and looked after. It's the same salesman who sold us the Boxster (20 yrs working for the same dealership) and he remembered the car with surprising detail. Having back to back Teams calls with only 30mins break between 7:30-3:30 helps, but at least I have something positive to think about on the ones that really drag.....

We collected it early afternoon, the excellent service / experience continued. It was their 75th anniversary open day today, so there was a nice atmosphere and plenty of food. But when the time came for the unveil, we moved to the quiet (and nicely air conditioned) handover bay. Several gifts, flowers and a decent tour of the car including setting up Porsche Connect. The only minor thing was there wasn’t any charge in the battery at all, but it did have a full tank of petrol so I’m not complaining. I have only driven it 26 miles as time was getting on when we left, not helped by Lindsay having an hour in the Macan GTS I drove last week. It was enough to remind me what a fabulous thing it is and we’ve got a day out planned tomorrow. It looked huge under wraps, but very curvy for a large car.

Just for Jeff….a small snapshot as I didn’t reset the computer until I was part way home. The electric range was zero when I started, so all self generated. I sat on the drive with the aircon on for a while when I go home which has impacted the avg speed.

Very nice, love the Panamera
Mrs CB’s Uncle still has the V8S he bought new in Sept 2017. It’s a real shame they discontinued that diesel because it is a beast of an engine, that’s a big part of the reason why he’s not changed it.

Very nice Martin. I can see why you went for it and I'm glad you like it. I'm sure it will serve you well. The colour combo does suit it but I can see why you'd want one without the lime green brake calipers. Is it still a car you don't feel you can take to all your site visits being a Porsche or do you think you can get away with it a bit more as its a dark coloured saloon so doesn't stick out like a FF Range Rover?

I think it’s a bit less conspicuous than the RR, so I’m expecting to use it a similar amount and a lot more than a 911.
