Perhaps if I drove one, I'd change my mind. But as it stands, it's not creating much of a blip on my radar. Although it looks neat and purposeful, its desirability is very much rooted in what it does, how it (apparently) feels and its bespoke engineering. Toyota might actually be doing it a disservice by calling it a Yaris. It's likely to be nigh-on perfect for UK roads and perfectly useable as a daily driver. The only issue I can see is the boot size, although split/fold rear seats will help. As a HALO, it misses something with the name. Who nose though.

It has a certain amount of the old Honda CRX in there. Not to mention VW Corrado.

I can only applaud Toyota for creating this. Red's definitely the best colour. As said, it is far more relevant than a lot of super / hyper cars and far more achievable for many people. But at £30-ish k, how much must Toyota be losing on each one?

I am pondering some very creative man-maths about how I could justify ordering one of these. Limiting factors are:
a) Already owning two cars b) Only having the space at home for two cars c) Only working less than 2 miles away from my house d) The not inconsequential matter of the purchase price e) The fact that my job keeps me stupidly busy and therefore I don't have all that much time, or energy, for going out for a drive just for pleasure
But - the want is pretty strong. I am hoping that a test drive will cool my ardour. Otherwise, I'm sold!

^ Don't you need a small car for those shopping trips into the town centre?

Given that I just walk into the town centre for pretty much all my shopping trips, even I can't man-maths that one But if I moved house...

I suppose the most compelling argument is that this might be your last chance to own something like this.

I suppose the most compelling argument is that this might be your last chance to own something like this. Absolutely. As long as the car remains on sale in the UK for the next 18 months, I should be able to make the sums work.

They’re making 25k units globally so you should be ok.

Love it.
I’d go for white as it shows off the swollen rear arches to best effect.

My social media feeds are now full of GR Yaris ads, mostly my local dealer offering 0% PCP deals over 24 months. I don't recall ever seeing such a tempting deal on anything remotely interesting.

Circuit pack for me - it seems to be integral to the amazing road test write ups. Has anyone seen any feedback from a press car without the circuit pack ?

I wonder why they are all advertising 24 months with a high deposit and low payments? It doesn’t seem like a car/customer you would be hoping to be a big trade cycle frequent swapper. What are you going to change it for in 2 years?

I did say 'very probably' though, not 'definitely'! I will still very probably buy one of these at some point. Very probably as my next car

That is good. I have to say, having now concentrated and read a few reviews, it does look more intriguing than I initially gave it credit for.

I've read some of the tests and watched a couple of videos and have to say I'm tempted. Unfortunately Mrs Tim saw a brief bit of one of the vids and asked why I was looking at a crappy Yaris! I don't think she's a fan

I don't think she's a fan I haven't asked but know that la Signora would have a similar view. She's for electric or stick with what she's got (with the latter winning out for now).
