Drove to Turin today. 3 hours each way and a fortune in tolls, but I went to the Museo Nationale Dell’ Automobile.
Followed a Porsche speedster and an Alfaromeo 8C there, impressive place. I’ll share photos when I’m back on wifi.

This made me smile big-time: I don't think younger daughter or I have used the second SD card slot in the A1 so I copied some tracks onto a spare card and gave it a try. No idea how it picked up such an appropriate photo instead of the album sleeve, but we had (almost) all the time in the world to get the car fixed

Mate of mine has this. It is Smolenski's old Sagaris. I'm passenger to the car show tomorrow. I'm seriously excited.

Looks like a great time to be had, are you going to film the laps?

We have visitors staying and we brought them to one of the castles about 30mins drive away. Did the tour and only realised that many of the indoor scenes from Braveheart were filmed there, including the scene where Longshanks throws Philip out the window. It was a pretty decent throw, as Philip landed a few hundred miles away outside Stirling Castle!

Post-Brexit one of the local farmers - a predominantly vegetable farmer - has been sourcing some of his overseas workers from further east than previously, from central Russia and Kazakhstan courtesy of an agency.
How do we know this you might wonder given that these workers are normally only ever spotted bent over in a field?
Well, the Russian (a timid looking 19 year old medical student from almost exactly in the centre of Russia) arrived at the local town at 11pm 2 Saturdays ago and in the absence of the farm manager who was meant to collect him got a lift out to near where the farm is from a friendly local who was probably working in a pub. Unfortunately they dropped the guy at the wrong farm and after a period of wandering about appeared outside our house at 1 a.m. As we had friends over we were still up and after a failed attempt to deliver the Russian to the farm he ended up staying with us for the night until the farm manager checked his email - the only form of contact initially) - and came up in the morning.
The guy from Kazakhstan appeared at 2 a.m. on Saturday past and was fortunate we were still up, again entertaining! This guy's English was minimal but he at least had a contact phone number so the farm manager was duly roused and appeared shortly after to collect his new charge. I suspect this worker had walked quite far before he got to our house.
The moral of this story though appears to be that we should start going to bed a bit earlier unless we're prepared to learn some foreign languages and help deliver new staff to the farm!!

Is the Russian trying to get away from Putin? I thought they could only get flights out to the likes of Turkey, China and a few other places. I hope he gets to learn the truth about Ukraine when he is here.

I hope he gets to learn the truth about Ukraine when he is here. No idea but I imagine spending the summer picking veg in the fields is preferable to a trip to Ukraine wearing camouflage. He has relative freedom to experience our ways - Mrs Tim saw him on Thursday evening in town while he was cycling past and he stopped and had a chat. Hopefully he'll look at the news while he's here. While he was at our house I did think of suggesting to him that he not mention he's from Russia but it's probably better if he takes a view on that by himself.

I assume it'll be the double whammy of trying to avoid conscription together with a sudden reduction in household income and fewer summer jobs to support them at home. It's clear that apart from Moscow & St Petersburg the leaders of Russia don't give the slightest shit about the rest of the country.

I passed something very nasty on my way home from work early this evening, never seen a car on its roof on a motorway before. Just a couple of miles before "my" exit southbound on the M3 the "smart" speed limit was down to 50 then 40, shortly afterwards all lanes were at a standstill, It's on a slight downward section and I could see the road clear in the distance. Mercifully I was only a few hundred yards from whatever had happened and the traffic slowly crept past - a custom VW Beetle, black and purple, in lane 4 of 4 but pointing the wrong way, with its rear slightly in the air against the concrete central reservation and at least one front wheel pointing at a strange angle, then in lane 1 a black Disco Sport on its roof, in front of which were about 6 vehicles all stopped. Whether they were witnesses or also involved I have no idea and don't wish to find out. There was at least one unmarked black van and several blokes dressed all in black with "PETRONAS" emblazoned on their backs running back to the upturned Disco. No signs of any emergency vehicles and no sirens audible so when I got home about 10 minutes later I dialled 999. Police were already aware but had yet to get anyone to the scene. Interestingly they knew my name without asking, must have a system top pick it up from the phone number. I was thanked. Several minutes later I heard the sirens in the distance - it's probably less than half a mile in a direct line from the accident scene to my house. Later on, the local news website reported that the motorway had been closed for some time whilst an accident was being attended to, without giving any details; traffic queues of over 6 miles leading up to the scene.
Stay safe, everyone

The guys in work (France) we’re talking about. Similar accident they saw 2 days ago on the A41 here. Huge tailbacks from an accident that resulted in a car on its roof too.

My 16 year old nephew was on the bench today for Shamrock Rovers as they played in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier. He didn’t get to play today and they lost, but it’s pretty cool that he got to experience that. He’s achieved a scholarship to a private school where they will tailor his studies around his playing, and has played at international level already.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this takes him.

My friend's son has just been signed on a 2 year professional contract for Hull so is starting for their Under 23s and hoping to break into the first team. My sister's best friend's son, Charlie Patino, made his debut for Arsenal last season and scored. I did point out he needs to find a better club.

I'm browsing caravan adverts. It's definitely serious, as I've ordered 13 pin electrics for the truck and a proper Alko ball.

Fine if you want to pitch up in a field, but could be an issue if you’d prefer somewhere with decent facilities. Unless they need the access road resurfaced…..couldn’t resist! (Serious about the first point)

I'm not particularly interested in the big commercial sites. It will be small, low facility sites that don't give a shit. Research suggests it's mainly no commercial vehicles as in white vans, rather than an obviously privately owned pickup that isnt signwritten.
I know of several people with pickups and caravans who have never come across the above. It's an old fashioned view according to all the forums.
I actually fancy the opportunity to go away without having to put dogs in kennels. It will most likely be local County shows and steam fairs, car shows etc rather than Caravancatraz type sites.

Popped out to get milk this morning and thought I’d grab a Sunday Paper. I used to buy the Sunday Times before living in California and haven’t bought any newspaper since moving back. While being surprised at the price now being almost twice what it was 9 years ago, it was the full page ad on the front page for a new Harvey Norman store that put me off purchasing.
I’ll continue not buying the paper I think.

Newspapers are an interesting item these days, most of the younger generation no doubt use a smartphone, tablet or computer to read the news. In our "always on" society, the printed news is often out of date before it reaches the shelf yet there are a few oldies, such as my mum, who don't do technology and still rely upon a newspaper although with TV News channels also now being fairly easy to find, they also take the place of a newspaper for many.
I do wonder how long newspapers will last and whether or not their demise will be sudden (like the printed version of AutoTrader, for example)

Currently on the bus out of the city after meeting a friend who was in town for a few days. It’s a long time since I’ve been on the bus on my own. They used to be smelly, cold and wet. This one has wifi, USB ports for charging phones and is a hybrid so is very quiet. It’s also just €2 which is a steal when you consider parking, frequency of them arriving and the ability to have a few pints.
I’d still not get one to work though.

Years ago I was on the Haslemere - Waterloo fast, which used to stop nowhere. Haslemere at the time had the highest ratio of first class season tickets to passengers boarding (including me). A man and a woman were discussing their route to Covent Garden as they got to Waterloo. I pointed out that the bus over the bridge was the easiest, fastest and most reliable way and the woman said “I haven’t caught a bus since I was a schoolgirl.” Buses in central London are the most classless form of transport imaginable, with millionaire traders standing shoulder to shoulder with office cleaners but if her experience of buses was countryside Surrey’s “finest”, mainly slack jawed yokels scratching their privates, I can understand her reluctance.
