I still have no idea on how to catch or use a bus. It’s all numbers There are TfL maps that look like the tube map and journey finder. But I know what you mean. Years ago my Aunt in Highgate used to know about 50% of the routes to tell her international students how to get around town and make it back to N10. She’d just reel off five or six numbers without thinking.

I know the bus numbers that run up and down from Newcastle to the coast so I sometimes use them to drop me off in town. That said, on a Sunday I can drive into the centre of town and be parked within 15 mins, for only £3 all day, so I’d only use the bus if I was having a drink. Most bus companies have good apps that will tell you the bus numbers for any journey you enter.

Got the bus in Glasgow last weekend. Mrs Tim and I reckon that was our first time on a bus for 25 years! It makes sense going from the suburbs into town somewhere like that but for our normal travelling a car is so much more convenient, simpler and a lot quicker.

Like Ed I have always found buses ridiculously over-complicated and that treat all passengers as if they are experts and know what they want. Generally I dislike them. I think my hatred stems from getting shouted at as an 8 year old for pushing the bell for a stop at what was not a request stop. How TF was I supposed to know what was and was not a request stop? And don't even get me started on what side of the road you need to stand on if you don't know the local geography (as happened to me Dublin when we went the wrong way...).
I get the Park & Ride into Shrewsbury but even that annoys me. They assume you know where it stops and where to get off. There is no route and stop map on the bus FFS!

We have 3 local bus routes in our area, numbered (surprisingly) 1, 2 and 3. The actual routes seem to vary depending on the time of day and day of the week. Sometimes one or more routes go into the local hospital, sometimes they stop in the road outside. The online route maps are a bit of a mystery. One route that used to operate pre-covid every 10 or 15 minutes only runs once an hour, as I found out recently when dropping the car off for repairs. And the price of tickets......

Interesting that Diana’s Escort RS Turbo just sold for £650,000. I read a comment on the Goodwood Facebook page that it’s a bargain as Andrews Escort cost £12,000,000…

I hope that is at work somewhere and not at your house. Apart from the questionable colour scheme, any garage that size should be full of interesting cars!

Looks like a sports hall but guessing it’s your villa in Florida ? Yes, the first Villa in Florida. Terrible colour s scheme but it had its own separate air con unit and was a bit of fun. We’re on the coast now and have a triple garage which is empty, so the truck is in there. Fits with room to spare, I think the L version would squeeze in.

It’s 35c during the day, but it’s the hight humidity that can make it a bit uncomfortable, although it’s a lot better by the coast. We’ve had a couple of huge storms, but mainly from 5pm onward so they haven’t been a problem. Driven in some rain that has been heavier than I’ve ever seen, didn’t last for long but flooded the roads in a couple of mins! We were in Kennedy last week so learnt all about the Artemis programme and we’re all set to watch it on Monday morning (didn’t go all the way to the west coast). We’ll be back in Miami on Saturday, as flying home in the evening, but hopefully we’ll see it. I watched a space shuttle launch about 12 years ago, from the causeway at Cape Canaveral, was an amazing thing to see! edit: my eldest is 21 in December, so still can’t drink over here which he’s finding frustrating but on the positive side it’s saving me a bit of money every night!

Post-Brexit one of the local farmers - a predominantly vegetable farmer - has been sourcing some of his overseas workers from further east than previously, from central Russia and Kazakhstan courtesy of an agency. How do we know this you might wonder given that these workers are normally only ever spotted bent over in a field? Well, the Russian (a timid looking 19 year old medical student from almost exactly in the centre of Russia) arrived at the local town at 11pm 2 Saturdays ago and in the absence of the farm manager who was meant to collect him got a lift out to near where the farm is from a friendly local who was probably working in a pub. Unfortunately they dropped the guy at the wrong farm and after a period of wandering about appeared outside our house at 1 a.m. As we had friends over we were still up and after a failed attempt to deliver the Russian to the farm he ended up staying with us for the night until the farm manager checked his email - the only form of contact initially) - and came up in the morning. The guy from Kazakhstan appeared at 2 a.m. on Saturday past and was fortunate we were still up, again entertaining! This guy's English was minimal but he at least had a contact phone number so the farm manager was duly roused and appeared shortly after to collect his new charge. I suspect this worker had walked quite far before he got to our house. The moral of this story though appears to be that we should start going to bed a bit earlier unless we're prepared to learn some foreign languages and help deliver new staff to the farm!! Ah. This brought back memories of Kazakhstan. As some may remember I had a Kazakh girlfriend, I met her in Darlington although at that time she was living in Belgium I went to Kazakhstan three times. Anyway... she's was and is a lovely lady and it is a beautiful country and if anyone gets the chance... they should go.

We went to Whitby the other day. What should have been a nice drive wasn't because we were stuck behind a large and slow moving truck for miles and miles. Oh well... first world issues. Soothing picture...

Got broadband that’s fast and reliable for the first time since moving back. The last place we stayed had really poor broadband and was too difficult to get it in, so we hot spotted for the best part of a year.
It’s 500Mb which is plenty for what we need. I could have got 1Gb but didn’t see the point in spending more for it. There’s an upgrade coming next year that will include 8Gb up and download speeds.

Weird or what but how serious it was/is I have no idea. For some reason I quite like the Chrysler turbine custom job though. Nicely done even if the car is not my cup of Darjeeling.

Did you have to use the diff lock? (don't know if this is still a thing with modern RRs)

Did you have to use the diff lock? (don't know if this is still a thing with modern RRs) Probably not They all have a locking central diff, but the SDV8 gets an active rear locking diff as well. With Terrain Response 2, you can just leave it in Auto and it sorts it all out, it's only low range that you have to activate yourself really, but I did use snow mode the first winter and you can change to an off road display in the instrument cluster. There's another that shows axle articulation as well (the blurry picture), you can see the rear diff is partially locked on that one, as well as the car being in low range with the suspension raised and ATP (All Terrain Progress Control / off road cruise control) on as I was messing about in some fairly deep snow. All really useful for me....

I don't suppose this is the right place for this but I just feel like telling someone, with some anonymity if that makes sense.
Out walking today 4 boys aged about 10 or 11 or so threw stones and racially abused Mrs WW. This is the first time this has happened since she came to the UK. The little tossers just stood there saying "What you gonna do" and of course what can I do? Hit a kid and who's going to the cop shop? I called the police and the description was pretty unique but will they even respond?
This shook me up more than her thank God. I assume they're from families with no idea how to bring up a kid.
Anyway. I just feel sick that kids would do this.

I think it will take several generations and much more of the public calling out of racists before this behaviour fades away. I understand that the Police are being told to take racist behaviour much more seriously so fingers crossed.
