I went to check the status of my old Porsche 993. I was upset to find out that its MOT ran out in 2022 with no further update. On investigation, it turns out the car is in the process of having 350K spent on a restomod.

Hopefully for £350k they'll at least buff out the bumper chip my 911 put in yours when I left the handbrake off at Prescott!

If you have any interest in aviation and/or British Airways and you get an offer to visit the BA museum, I suggest you accept. I spent the best part of 3 hours this morning on a full-blown (free) guided tour and found it fascinating. They wouldn't even take a donation from an individual visitor. It seems that almost all visitors are on corporate trips and in the aviation industry, suppliers or partners of BA, or BA staff. The location is in Harmondsworth, just north-west of the airport, within their Waterside site

When I went out this morning the entire city was heaving with chanting football fans. At lunchtime it was very noisy too with much chanting. Plenty of police and security staff everywhere. I'm in Lille and tonight is the final of the Coupe de France, looks like the equivalent of our FA Cup final. Coming back to my hotel earlier this afternoon, looks like the Lyon team's coach is parked outside a hotel round the corner. I can see its roof from my bedroom window. The other finalists are PSG

Got the car washed last Friday, it’s been way too long since it had been washed and it badly needed it.
Parked it today and there must have been a herd of cows flying over it because whatever dropped its load on the car, managed to cover the entire tax disc. I rinsed it off but couldn’t believe a bird could completely cover an area that large.

You stil have tax discs in Ireland? Yep. They love putting things in the windscreen here. Tax disc, Insurance disc and NCT (National Car Test, aka MOT) disc if your car is over 4 years old. If you’re a learner driver, there’s the L plates too and then if you’re a recently qualified driver, you need an ‘N’ plate. If you’re sharing the car with a Learner and a Novice, there’s so much on the windscreen that you’ll be lucky to see a Scania if it’s driving directly towards you…

At first I wondered why so many cars had so much stuff in the windscreen. Looking at a parked car revealed all.

Do they leave you much room to see out? A lot less than ideal to be honest. Considering most learners are in older cars that are super mini sized, they have a substantially reduced view. Then there’s those who decide to put their L/P plates in their field of vision in the rear window…🙄

Do they leave you much room to see out? Here’s my Neighbours car, he doesn’t have the NCT disc on it as his car is only a year old, but it’s the same size as the tax disc. notice the clever placement of the N plate in the rear window. His wife’s L plate is in the same location on the passenger side.

Pretty ridiculous really! I think it's still the same on the Isle of Man that new drivers must display an 'R' plate for the first year (Restricted, to 50mph IIRC, even in the unrestricted sections) but that's displayed on the bodywork in the same way 'L' plates are here. Much more sensible I think .

Download Festival 🤘is loud! As in I can hear it from my garden 10 miles as the crow flies away loud!
Looking forward to Pantera tomorrow night, last year I could even make out the words of the Metallica set rather than an a distinct beat!
They must be deaf post the gig! And I've learnt to not go to London on Monday as the train will be a bit whiffy!😂

On my way to/from an old job I used to occasionally stop at Kinross services on the M90 and if I went in there on the Monday after T in the Park it was like some scene from the zombie apocalypse - lots of straggly looking people milling around looking confused and moving slowly.

The site I work at has had a temporary road while the buildings were being built- temporary meaning it cost a lot of money to build and was there to move very heavy trucks around and a large volume of traffic- so it was actually a very good road. However, the building phase is almost complete and the site has to go back to the previous road layout. This is nice from the point of view that they are going to put it back somewhat like it was 20 years ago, but the new layout they are going with is going to cause a lot of problems. There was a decent sized roundabout that connected the motorway with the site, and that’s been turned into a T junction with traffic lights on it. Now going to work so far, this hasn’t been an issue. Leaving work however has been a nightmare. There are peak traffic times but when the new lights have caused the traffic on the road to back up outside of the factory, and you have several thousand people looking to leave work, it causes a big problem. I ended up going in the opposite direction to my house as I knew I’d never get on to the road when I wanted to this evening. Took 22 minutes to get out of the car park, and I’m assuming that doesn’t mean I can leave 22 minutes earlier now because of it.

I suppose today has been a good day. Reading through my emails just now, it seems that the FBI are trying to trace me to ensure I receive a load of money left to me by someone who's apparently in Nigeria, and I've also won a tractor !
These scams get worse every day....

Another traffic related post- I got stuck in traffic this evening when I was driving to the airport to pick up the Mrs who had been at a funeral in Birmingham. There was a crash on the motorway (which shut it down completely in one direction)and I was in the traffic leading up to the slip road to join it. I decided, after seeing the white BMW X5 in front of me nip into the bus lane in an attempt to join the motorway faster, but only getting stuck in the middle of all the traffic and multiple lanes of what was now a car park, to move into the right lane and drive past the junction. Having done this, I went on a 40 minute diversion through towns and parks that eventually led me back on to the motorway, at the junction after the crash. As I merged, the same BMW X5 drove past me. Seems that avoiding the obstacle, while feeling like I was making progress, didn’t gain me any time at all. The drive was more scenic though and I still got to the airport in time.

At Silverstone with my 4 year old introducing him to live motorsport (long overdue). Currently a qualifying session and a great example of the randomness of club racing. 488 challenge vs Volvo vs 1998 BX! Along with various M3s, 991.2 GT3 etc etc. The Ferrari has done a 2:11 (second slower than a couple of 991.2 GT3s) and the BX is down to a 2:55. Not the slowest either, but only just.

Looks fun! Is that Brooklands corner? It was! Yes, Brooklands. They had the BRDC stand open today but you could move about pretty freely and there was full paddock / garage access as you usually get with this sort of racing. it managed to keep a 4 year old interested for 5 hours, so better than expected. Helped by a really nice guy who runs ‘Carnatter’, he stopped us for a chat (knows how difficult it can be to keep little ones entertained etc) and gave us free access into the lounge he had in Brooklands hospitality. Worth booking for the next visit as they only charge £10 per adult and you get a better view, timing screens, comfy seating if you want it, toilets etc. They have a dedicated parking area outside and there were a couple of car clubs in there as well as some interesting stuff. It bought us an extra hour, so I’m very grateful!

I had a panicky call at 8:55 this morning from the company receptionist. She was locked inside her 4th floor flat as the mortice lock was jammed. No amount of wiggling of the door while turning the key worked to free it. She's still waiting for a locksmith to appear and has just reminded me that she has no food at home. If I was in the office today I'd probably go up and pass her a loaf of bread through the letterbox one slice at a time while laughing at her predicament
