They must have thought there would be a decent market for them but purely from a tech point of view a lot of them came to market as inferior products to Teslas offerings and their makers thought that they would sell based on being from a legacy car manufacturer. They've very quickly found out just how far being they are to Tesla and the likes of BYD and that buyers of EVs want decent tech. Given that a lot of these models don't even have decent looks (BMW!) to back then up its not wonder they have poor residuals.

I wonder how much a £200k, 1000+ hp Taycan with scaffolding instead of rear seats will be worth in a couple of years?!

On the subject of electric cars, a colleague was telling me his next door neighbor bought an electric Opel of some sort- Astra sized car- last year in January and had it for 6 weeks, when he was driving down a dual carriageway and the entire electric system failed. No steering, lights, hazards, nothing. He got the car to the side of the road and called Opel who collected him and the car and gave him a petrol engined car while his was being repaired. Weeks later, his car was repaired and apparently the problem was a cover had come loose under the bonnet where the ICU of the car was. Being Ireland, there was rain which got in and fried it all. The repaired car was then back in operation when on a damp day, the same thing happened. He got onto Opel and they collected him a second time. He asked the manager of the dealership for a full refund of the car because the car could have caused a major accident twice. The dealer gave him a loaner and then he kept that until January this year, when Opel offered him a brand new petrol replacement. The manager of the dealership told him the petrol car was a much better one and they’ve had multiple issues with their electric ones.
Apparently the guy is way happier in his new petrol engined car now that he has peace of mind when he’s driving.

My internet died this morning. New supplier Vodafone not being very helpful in resolving it, other than saying it’ll be about 48hrs until I get a technician out. All the hype of the better customer service and faster speeds too. When I was speaking to them this morning, the rep basically told me there’s nothing she can do because it’s a bank holiday here today and that I can buy a package that will mean no outages, bumpy having a sim card in my router. I pointed out that the purpose of getting it from them was to provide a service that was reliable and trying to sell me an add on package when their existing one isn’t working is a bad idea. She then asked what they should do if there’s a general outage, to which I responded “I’m the customer, it’s your job to fix it, not mine!” 7 hours into no internet and using my phone which has ok service at the house.
I’ll get credit for the days I’m without service, but that doesn’t help when I need service now. It’ll also mean me taking time off work this week to be home when they come to fix it.
Pain in the nuts the whole thing.

Watching YouTube the other day and there was a clip about Ayrton Senna which got me thinking, despite the way advertising has gone in the last few decades, banning tobacco and drinks, companies like Marlboro must be loving the guys that sponsored McLaren and Ferrari back in the day. After all, every time Senna or Prost or whomever is mentioned now, there’s a picture of cigarettes that’s no longer allowed on tv. I know it’s a fortunate turn of events for the tobacco industry but they really hit the sponsorship jackpot there. Random thought of the day.

Senna would've been 64 a few days ago.
At my job interview for my current role when it came up that I'd worked for an organisation headed by an ex-F1 driver one of the interviewers made the joke about what 3 Formula 1 drivers were named after Scottish cities. I should've taken that as a warning....

My marathon is in 3 weeks in Norfolk. Booked flights and a place to stay and was going to get the train from Stanstead, but had a thought. I’ll be there for 4 days, 3 of us going so return train tickets were probably going to cost a few quid. So I decided to look at car rental, and have now rented a Focus automatic or similar, and thanks to points accrued from work, it’s only costing about £70 for the 4 days. The added freedom of having a car and the automatic gearbox, meaning I won’t have to use my legs as much the day after the marathon are very appealing. Haven’t driven a current model Focus so will be interested to see what it’s like if I get one.

Wish this rain would pack in. I've never seen so much water running over the ground. There were several quite deep floods I had to drive through on my way to Hexham this afternoon. It even started to come through my trusty Ridgeline smock which it has never done before.

The rain is the same over here, not that I’ve had a chance to be out in it as I’ve had the flu since Sunday. For someone who never takes sick leave from work, I feel very strange not going in, despite me being so unwell.

I took some items of clothing back to M&S for Mrs Tim last week. She'd bought online, there's minimal paperwork and they can't do the refund from your address.... Anyway when I went back again yesterday armed with the online order details they asked if I had the card that was used for purchase. Er, no No matter, they just needed a similar card (i.e. a credit or debit card!) and could refund that. So I'm now £57 richer and at some point Mrs Tim will wonder where her refund went That's the first time I've heard of a refund going back to a different card, let alone a different person. When did that change?

Not sure but I have on occasion handed over the 'wrong' card and it has gone back on it. Useful as in one instance I had cancelled the original payment credit card.

Surely this must be an error….129k miles in a year?! It’s my old 2009 520d. Good to see it’s still going, whether it’s 214k or 314k miles. .

I think that must be a misprint, but good to see someone is getting some value out of it. It is a similar story with my old Skoda Superb estate, which clocked up intergalactic mileage in the first few years after it was sold off from our company fleet. I assume it had a new life as an airport taxi. The annual rate of increase has reduced a little, but still going strong

Glad I'm not the only one who keeps track of what their old cars are up to. Nearly all are still on rhe road with the exception of my first company car which was an 06 plate Civic, though that really was knackered by the time the lease company had it back.

I've forgotten/lost the original reg numbers for both my Alfa and GTI, or I would look them up. My Legacy appears to have died, but given the issues I was having with it when I sold it, I'm not totally surprised. Although, I suppose it might have another git plate on it by now - a lot of them seem to.

Yesterday's bargain.... I had a dental appointment at 4:45pm and the dentist is in the same building as my local Sainsbury's supermarket so afterwards I wandered around to grab a few essentials and a not-so-essential reduced price item that I couldn''t miss at that price. It went through the scanner and till at the displayed price including a selected manual re-scan, so it must have been OK:
