Tim, is your receptionist still locked in?? Or are you going to go and stick a few slices of bread through her letterbox just in case.....

No, she got released by about lunchtime. She was 5 minutes late this morning so obviously I asked her if she'd done it again

Well, after four and a half years of successful dodging, it's finally caught up with me. Been feeling a bit rough ever since the day after my friends' funeral on Thursday, but just put it down to a cold + hayfever. Going to miss the motor extravaganza a Glamis this weekend now, which I was looking forward to. What a pain.

Unlucky! I haven't tested since late 2022, was feeling a bit rough and had a worse than normal cough a couple of weeks ago but never thought anything of it. Then heard it was doing the rounds again. When I glanced at that initially I thought it was a pregnancy test

Does anyone test these days? Even work have lifted the 5 day quarantine and said just treat it as a cold. Can't speak for anyone else, but while it isn't SOP for us, it is encouraged if we suspect we have it. At our own expense, of course! We're told to stay off for 5 days - no more special leave either! - then return to duty even if we still test positive! All that, and yet in our local general hospital, all the staff are back to wearing masks and PPE. So who the fuck knows what's correct any more!!

We had a meeting cancelled as an in person one last week and it was switched to online due to Covid concerns. Bearing in mind, there were about 160 invited to it and it should have been held in the auditorium on our customer site, everybody went back to the shared open office spaces and sat huddled together instead. The local wifi onsite is so bad that if too many try to use it, they can’t get online, so in an effort to reduce Covid, everyone had to squash into a smaller area to help.
In other news, I booked the coming week off work and have plans to catch up on stuff around the house, on the car and do stuff with my kids while they are still willing to be seen in public with me!

August 2020, when we thought that Covid was on the way out and special offers abounded as places tried to attract tourists back. There were no tours on offer but the stadium was open to visitors.

The leader of Sinn Fein announced today that a death threat had been made against her by a man wearing a black balaclava, saying this behaviour should not be tolerated.
Now I’m not one for condoning violence, but I’m very surprised that nobody has seen the irony in this, given her party’s past.

I was driving into Amiens this afternoon and a guy in a Renault Arkana was behaving a little strangely in a 2 lane section (behind, then almost alongside, behind again), he then pulled alongside and waved from the window.
Here we go…..but he shouted something with Voiture and Porsche in the sentence and gave me a thumbs up and a wave. Clearly a man with better taste than I gave him credit for when I saw the Renault.….!
I’ve never had a car that’s had this much attention and it’s all positive.

….. I’ve never had a car that’s had this much attention and it’s all positive. I have the same problems with the Mondeo 🤣 Anyway, did one of those things I hate doing yesterday, I swapped my work laptop for a new one. Corporate policy means they get updated every few years and a bunch of us were in the latest group, so I’ve spent the last few hours this morning reinstalling software I need, getting access to functions that come disabled on the laptops for everyone because I need them too, and trying to find out why it’s all in the cloud and not downloading to the new laptop. To be honest, the old one was working perfectly well and was well specced, with a decent battery life. But the new one is not too shabby and weighs less, meaning my bag will be easier to carry I suppose.

Nothing worse than having to set up a new laptop but at least you were able to prepare yourself. Last time I had to change it was because my current machine decided to randomly fry its motherboard halfway through carrying out an audit at a customer site!

What a pain. I know you can get it sorted through insurance reasonably easily but only if they have the glass in stock. We've had a couple of fleet cars be out for over a month waiting for a new windscreen over the last couple of years. Plus you have to find the time to get it done as all the sensors mean the days of having Autoglass come and do it on your driveway are long gone if you have a modern car.

Arseholes. I had something very similar on the Benz recently, but to be fair it was all sorted and fixed in a painless fashion, courtesy of Tesco insurance and National Windscreens.

It’s booked in with Auto Windsceens on Tuesday morning, hopefully they can get a screen in time.
They’ve quoted 90-120 mins including calibrating the sensors (it created 2 x bookings on their website) and it’s less than a 10min walk from one of my sites so I don’t have to hang around. It’s only £100 for the excess, but will impact the insurance renewal as getting a repair on the Range Rover added about £60-70!

We're (our combined family) is having a year from hell (not just motoring matters but our lives in general). This included the Kuga getting a cracked screen the week before its MOT was due earlier in the year. First time I've ever had a cracked screen in over 40 years of driving.... and it was fixed next day (new screen) by Autoglass via a dedicated reporting line from my insurers, so comparatively painless apart from the £100 excess and a drive of about 10 miles each way to get to one of their centres as they can't replace windscreens with rain sensors outside your house or place of work

If it’s just a rain/light sensor, then they should be able to do it at home or workplace. It’s the camera calibration that needs specialist kit, level floor etc.

The only camera the Kuga has is the reversing one. The windscreen just has a rain sensor (which I have disabled in the standard user settings as like all rain sensing wipers,it's useless) and maybe a sensor for auto lights. I was surprised that it couldn't be done outside my home but it worked out OK

Not the Tesla though, that does have a useless rain sensor.

The sensors in the L322 and the L200 are Garbage and I would rather the Volvo offering of variable intermittent with auto option.

95% of the time the rain sensor works perfectly in the Benz and the Mini. The windscreen wiper on the Alvis is cable driven off the gearbox, so that is more of a manual on/off job...
