I mis-read the BBC headline of "Princess Charlotte's birthday marked by new photos" as ".... marked by new potatoes". Made me laugh for a few seconds until I realised what I had done

I was sat behind a 22-plate Evoque at a roundabout tonight on the way home, and wondered how many options it didn't have due to the chip shortage, and how that might affect residuals at change time? It must affect a lot of cars at the moment, especially high-end marques.

What's happened to the pound-dollar exchange rate? Was shockedctosay when I went to the local supermarket and glanced at the rare board, it's almost equal to the Euro rate The dollar has strengthen considerably on the assumption of US interest rates being hiked and their economy performing better than the European ones. Similarly the pound has held up remarkably well against the Euro since Brexit.

Over the past few weeks there seem to have been an abnormally high number of accidents on the M25 and M3 around where I work. This evening I was held up for a few minutes by "rubberneckers" again; there had been a significant crash on the London-bound M3 just before the M25 intersection. No traffic was heading towards London, I could see at least 4 damaged vehicles over a couple of hundred yards on the far side of the barriers. Not sure why there has been such an increase in these accidents, is it down to people having forgotten how to drive because of lockdown, impatience or what? I just hope nobody was injured (or worse) this evening; local news site is still waiting for comment from the emergency services

I'd say lower driving standards, possibly caused by lockdown.
I've seen more instances of overtaking at junctions in the past month then in the previous 10 years!

It's human nature to look as you confirmed.

Nope, I just glanced across as I was forced to reduce speed in the queue. Once the scene had been passed the traffic speeded up and was flowing freely.

An interesting letter from the 1969 F1 season. Quite controversial due to the introduction of wings.

Nice snaps, Chris. My current computer car is the Lotus 49 so I am pretty much modelling that exact engine as opposed to the later versions. That snap is another handy reference colour/texture wise so thanks for that.

Have a couple more then, plus a shot of a recent M-B power unit as comparison. I have so say that when I saw the DFV it took me back to building the Tamiya plastic model kits of some of the F1 cars, a few decades ago

I think I had 4, or possibly 5, DFV-powered F1 models at one stage. And one Ferrari V12!

I can't think of anything that gives you a better cost-benefit ratio than a brand new set of wipers. I bought a set of Bosch Aerotwin + Bosch Rear for my car as the old (original) wipers were smearing a bit and what a transformation!
Which reminded me that the Bosch wipers on the Golf have nearly been on for 4 years (replaced the factory supplied ones in the first week of owning the car), so I've just bought a new set.

Not got around to that yet, but I did give the blades a properly good clean the other day, which has made a world of difference to the sweep! Never seem to be in the vicinity of the Big Orange Shop when I think about new wipers. Actually, when I think about it, I checked when I first got the car and they didn't seem to list the rear wiper blade at all. I had similar issues with the mighty Skoda's rear wiper too; Halfrauds' listing gave a completely different fitting to the one on the car, and I ended up having to source one from Skoda parts department.

Is there a competition going on between manufacturers to furnish cars with the smallest possible brake lights? I noticed some time ago that the Disco 5 has a vast swathe of lamp unit on the rear, yet the actual brake lights are the size of the side of a matchbox. Since then, I've noticed more and more cars with huge lamps, but tiny brake lights: One of the Teslas - it could be the 3 or the S, I don't know because they are very same sausage=different length - has matchbox sized brake lights, as well as the Ford Puma, which I only noticed as I was following my Dad in his the other day.
Sure, they're bright, as they're LEDs, but they could be a little bit bigger. Even the units we fit to the Mono R, which are tiny in comparison to almost every other car, have brake lights at least twice the size of the cars mentioned above.

Halfords don’t sell the set for the front of my car and most online retailers were out of stock, so I ended up getting them from an Amazon seller. That’s where the Golf wipers are coming from as well as they were cheaper that Halfords / wiperblades.co.uk etc and delivered the next day for free. Halfords wanted £30, I paid £19.21

Will peruse Amazon at some point, though if the fittings are wrong, it'll be a major PITA to send them back rather than just walk back into the shop! First-world problems, eh?

Use the Bosch site to find the right code for your car, then use that code to search for the cheapest seller.

I got wipers for the 430 from someone like Wipers Direct (I don't think that's their name but you get the gist). I'm trying not to use Amazon where possible....

Driving at lunch and the business beside my hotel had smoke billowing from part of the grounds- chemical smoke as opposed to regular, healthy smoke…
As I drove past, there were a load of people standing watching what looked like the burning chassis of a one wheel electric mobility thingy. Didn’t get a photo. Also saw some weirdo on a scooter, a non electric scooter at that.

Well, I had another blood test today so, I went and visited the IMAX theatre to watch the latest Top Gun film. It's been a while since I went to an IMAX and no 3d was a buzz kill but the chair massage was what really fried the synapses.
No idea how they related the chair movement to the on screen action but the film was imo, really good and moved the story on nicely. I liked it. Now I know the next MI is due I will have to see that too. No hardship though. Despite the NS, a good day.
