Just had a very angry man flag me down in the tractor in the hamlet near the hay fields and tell me he and the other residents are going to call the police as I am driving too quickly. In my tractor that does 40kph flat out and I was a gear down and slowing as I'm going uphill with a load. Crack on. He made the mistake of opening the tractor door and sticking his head in the cab. Good judge of character, my terrier. He retreated sharpish. 🤣 We are surrounded by idiots everywhere we go. No doubt he will be the first to complain when stuck behind a slow-moving tractor somewhere. Having just come back from the pub, apparently this chap is a well known whinger when it comes to this sort of thing. I gave the heads up to the farmer I am doing the work for - he has told me to crack on as normal - I have done all day and rather unsurprisingly, haven't been locked up by the local traffic police. 🙃

Met a colleague today who I worked with back in the 90’s. In 1998, he bought a Toyota Carina E which had a 1.6 petrol engine and was one of the Leanburn cars. He loved that car and always raved about how good it was.
While we were chatting, he mentioned it and I asked him if he still had it. He only took it off the road last year but still owns it- he replaced it with a 2006 Honda Accord with the 2.0 petrol engine which is lightning fast according to him.
The Carina E now has 308,000 miles on it and is still running.
Don’t get many people holding on to a car that long very often now.

Just bought a new armoured phone case for my Samsung from fleabay.
Only to receive a pop-up asking if I wanted a cut-price charger. For an i-Phone.
WTF?

Watching a program on a VPN to California and an ad came on for the Kia K4, “MSRP from $22,000”. The same car starts at €48,000 in Ireland. Now the California price doesn’t include taxes which are about 8-9%, so with plates and tags and everything the car would be $26k give or take. Not sure of the UK price but that’s a massive difference for the same car, even allowing for the steering wheel to be on the other side.

Why is it that 95% of houses on the market have a bedroom with at least 1 guitar in it?

Malta have a labour Prime minister who seems to be about as popular as ours. Similar stories too, he gets free moorings for his yacht in return for the government building his friend a restaurant in the Marina. He started off with a 530e official car, but now and has a couple of government Range Rovers, an Evoque for his wife and his latest purchase which was parked outside the parliament building yesterday. Quite the registration plate.

My eldest is in university and we are trying to get her access to a bank account that we opened for her when she was born. We’ve put money in it regularly and it was in our names and hers. When she turned 18, she got a letter from the bank, saying she needed to change her account into her name. We didn’t do that at the time but went to the bank a few weeks ago to make the necessary changes. We all need id, a letter with our address and name that’s dated in the past few weeks, and the original letter she got.
We arrived with everything to be told we had to return again when everything was sent to head office for approval. So there’s a delay. Then they got back to her to tell her the original letter is not valid because it has our old address on it. They are not accepting their own letter that they require with all the relevant information on it because they say the address is incorrect. The same address that was recently changed. To our current address.
If there’s any more hassle around the account, I’m going to close it and move to a different bank.

The new online challenger banks like Starling, Mondo, Revolut etc all make dealing with them so much simpler (provided nothing goes wrong at which time they disappear down their rabbit holes). I really wish I knew why they are acting they way they are because none of the younger generations want anything to do with a traditional bank. I am aware of a business which wanted to buy another company. Their existing high street bank said it was unlikely they could help so they sought help from a smaller non high street bank who made funds available with little hassle. Now the high street bank is jumping up and down making all sorts of threats about withdrawing current funding because the company dared to get funds elsewhere even though the funds were for a different company and they weren't interested!! They need to take a close look at themselves.

They really do. We all have Revolut accounts and find it so much more useful for everything. Cheaper loans, better interest better investment choices and very user friendly.

Just tried to book the Crown and Crossed Swords at Shotley Bridge for our annual festive meal (8 of us total) was was told they don't take party bookings of more than 6 people after 5pm as they are too busy. Never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. Looks like we will be fining somewhere else.
Suggesting two tables of four didn't go down well.

Most work crimbo parties are more than 6 people and usually want to eat after 5pm so that's a lot of business they're planning on turning down!

Asked our high street bank if they were prepared to give us some indicative figures, followed up the call with an email and have heard nothing from them. I think we'll be leaving them in the future

Been looking at using up the last 2 days of my holiday at work before the end of the calendar year... contemplating Eurostar to France, getting the train up to London after work one weekday evening. One night in a Premier Inn near Kings Cross/St Pancras is as expensive as 3 nights in a hotel in Lille... over £220 for a Premier Inn !
