Yep but I guess for a new model there aren't many names left on the shelf that haven't been used already and doesn't translate to pigs cock in Chinese.
However if it looks like the Concept, where do I sign, its a stunning bit of design. I was worried the production model would be more like that Vison E Turismo thing which was a bit of a pig.

You get used to names - I thought Boxster was pretty wank when I first heard it. Cayman too, come to think of it - fine if you actually were a gay man and wanted to highlight it to other drivers, but perhaps less so if you weren't.

Not really bothered by the name, but really interested in how it turns out, both styling and range. The 800V charging system sounds great, 400km range in 15mins, if that sort of infrastructure was widely available then it would transform the usability of electric cars.

It's an awkward name to say.
I don't feel the love for the actual car although maybe it'll be better in any colour other than white. Would people be so excited if it had a Kia badge, for example?

Are we pronouncing it Taken?

Perhaps, Taken away and got shot of? I wonder what the common name will be.

The bit I find funny is "it will be positioned between the £55,965 Cayenne and £67,898 Panamera". Presumably that's without the optional motor. I reckon it will be £90K all day long by the time you've added a few essentials like seats.
I reckon the name will be pronounced like an Australian would say Toucan.

Not sure about that. If you look all the way through the photos in the Autocar story the car, assuming it is the real thing that's got a minor disguise, looks like an evolution of the Panamera styling with a less hatch or coupe type rear end and a fairly standard Porsche front end. There also appears to be a high-riding one, the last group of photos taken in the snow and then the final picture is a rendering of something sleek and low (the original car from Porsche's releases of drawings/renderings) and is significantly different from the pictures you'll have just looked through.
I also get the impression its going to be pretty huge, presumably Panamera sized?

As those production line 'photos' are just computer drawings your fears may yet be realised. The test mules don't look as though they're concealing a sleek looking vehicle like the ones being made in those imaginary pictures.

Oh and I hope they get Liam Neeson to appear in the TV adverts!
I will find you and I will kill you. Just as long as you're not more than 275 miles away on the WLTP cycle, otherwise you'll have to give me a bit more time to catch up with you.

So long as Neeson makes it clear he will drive with extreme consideration, stop for errant pedestrians and in no way use the available performance of the car (with the exception of the range) to get to you to carry out his threat

Looks like a cross between a fancy washing machine and a 918. Way too much going on for my liking. Why the hell do you need so many screens

What on earth is that screen in front of the passenger for? Will you need a co-pilot?

Sounds like it will be rather good. It has best ride of any Porsche, steering that’s closer to a 911 than a Panamera and is the best electric car Frankel has driven “by a mile”. Add to that the expected performance and range, it just need the infrastructure to catch up with how quick it can be charged. link

What worries me is the likely price and the potential for the base car to start north of 6 figures!

Didn't the initial drive in CAR not suggest the price may start around £50k for 600BHP? I took that with a pinch of salt since 1) it was written by Georg Kacher who will never criticise anything German and 2) there's no way Porsche are ever going to offer something that could be perceived as a bargain, they know how to charge a healthy sum!
Perhaps they would do it for £50k with the electric equivalent of a 1 litre turbo triple but then that's not an area of the market they're in.

I assume its model S size rather then Tesla 3?
Its a Porsche, therefore there's a premium over Tesla, Jag and Audi, got to be 100 grand hasn't it?

Post by Martin on Aug 28, 2019 8:53:14 GMT
It’s sub Panamera size, so slightly bigger than a Model 3? I think the launch models (Turbo / Turbo S) will be priced above £100k. Maybe the 4S will be £70-80k.

If the Jaguar is 70-80 this has to be 100k. It looks a more complete product and compared to that and the Audi it has to command a premium. Can we assume that Tesla is finished?

The X and S will struggle, but the model 3 should do OK as it’s pitched at a more affordable price point than the Jaguar/Mercedes/Audi.

In addition I suspect that a lot of the relatively early adopters aren't necessarily car people and won't really pay extra just for a Porsche badge.
Remember as well that there are actually some people who are interested in cars that have no desire at all for a Porsche.

I doubt it - they are just opening two of the biggest factories on Earth. Everyone else is still playing catch up. It's a bit like when the Apple iPhone of came out and "experts" queried whether people would really give up their Blackberrys and Nokias, two companies with a long track record of building phones, for something from a company with no experience in the field. Electric vehicles have really levelled the brand field - with internal combustion vehicles people, especially in Europe, are very snobbish and new entrants find it hard to break the German stranglehold in the premium sector. With BEVs people are more driven by the technology so Tesla didn't face those barriers to the same degree. It's why you find companies like Dyson looking at BEVs when they would never consider IC vehicles.

The difference was the iPhone was an innovative product that changed the market and had an audience already unmeshed into it's platform through prior iPod use and so on. Compared to the competition the iPhone looked like the future. Compared to this Porsche the Tesla looks like the past.

That'll be Tesla then. Tick. Comparing a £120k sports car which will sell in small numbers to a £35k mass produced vehicle which is changing the way the world moves and Tesla is the the past? www.tesla.com/en_GB/gigafactory
