Presumably named after the cruise line on account of its unfeasibly large bulk.

I always thought the HPE was a fantastic looking car and that shot of the front looks as good today as it always has. It's just a pity that most of them had near terminal rust issues within about 3 years.

Thats a tragic tale. But I'm trying to think of the choice of proper estates that were about back in the day and apart from an W123 I can't think of anything else.

The Citroen CX Safari was an interesting choice for the brave back then. My Dad was close to ordering a CX company car in 1983, but the company he worked for changed from French to English ownership and he went for an SD1 instead. Up to that point, we'd only had French cars in the family, as my Mum had a R4 when I was born followed by a R5 and then a Visa. My Dad had a couple of R16s and R20s, the last of which was a green 2.2TX in 1980 iirc. I was going to say we've never had an Italian car in our family, by my sister bought a nearly new 2.0 5 Cylinder Bravo HGT and ran that for a couple of years.

Was The Granada estate about at that time and possibly the Peugeot 504. The first Passat would have been around, as would the Audi 100 Avant.

I have always thought the Vantage was the best looking Aston ever.. After the DB9 and then the Vantage (pure, beautiful shapes that speak for themselves), the current Astons look chavvy and over-designed.

A V12 Vantage or DBS for me. Its all good being pretty but you want a bit of attitude.

Not keen on the interior colour mix - as has said before either go all black or all red. Otherwise lovely.

That green is really rare but a beautiful colour. But I'd leave the red seats. Tan looks much better with the green. Although all tan would be even better. I'm really glad Jag have moved away from their two-tone seat phase now.

I don't mind green and red, although ideally a darker red than that.
My father's MkII 3.8 was BRG with dark red leather seats and that was gorgeous. Also, there used to be an E91 3-series Touring that I passed on my morning commute which was dark metallic green with a dark red leather interior, and it looked very smart.

I agree, if the whole seat was a more burgundy colour then it would look really good, but I really don't like the part bright red leather in Jaguars of that era. Something more like this.... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265009987955Just a result of a Google search, I'm not stalking Mark's eBay account!

It was a long time ago pre-camera phones so I have hardly any photos of “James”, as Dad’s Mk2 was known, and sadly none that show the green/dark red colour combination. But I did find this one that at least show the car:

It was a lot more like those dodgy LR seats you found in Mark's EBay shopping bag

That was the day I traded it in for the M5. It was 9 months old with 8k miles on the clock and I thought it was quite clean. Photo from the same day

Pretty close to automotive perfection. My father always wanted one of those Alvises (he's also partial to a TD/TE/TF) but compromised with the MkII as being just that bit more modern and usable.
