Nearly a decade ago, I spent six months on secondment at Standard Chartered Bank, which was my first experience of both an open-plan office and hot-desking.
Each workstation was set up with a phone, headset, keyboard, mouse, dual monitors and a dock for your laptop. And each morning when you came in, there would be an anti-bacterial wet-wipe in a sachet sitting waiting on each keyboard for you to wipe down all the equipment before starting.
Obviously notwithstanding hot-desking, sub-teams work better if they sit together so we all tried to use the same desks each day. But occasionally you'd have to sit somewhere else, which was always gross. For pure "ick" factor, holding a communally-used keyboard upside down and giving it a good shake and tap against the desk is hard to beat. What falls out, in terms of substance and quantity, is quite revolting.

Probably as good as it can be with the dynamic pack and black trim. I see that LR have stopped giving a 2 year warranty on used cars, when did that happen?

So they have! I hadn't noticed that, it does change things.

So they have! I hadn't noticed that, it does change things. What’s the annual cost on a Discovery? I think it’s about £1k on a FFRR, which strikes me as good value or that you’d get good value anyway! £800? I’m expecting North of that for the 750 based on what I paid for the old car.

I as close....£855 or £1005 with breakdown cover. Not really a dealbreaker?

I've been told they're the prices to extend the warranty on mine beyond the two years. I might just do that and see what happens in the economy but if I do change, and given Land Rover don't budge much on used prices, I'd want to see that included.

Probably as good as it can be with the dynamic pack and black trim. That's not too bad, very similar to one a friend bought. The black trim round the numberplate makes the biggest difference.

That conjures up the term "sports truck" to me! I prefer your current car. It's less flashy.

I too prefer the exterior look of my current car, and it's boot, but I've added 30k to the mileage and it feels its age. A sports truck is what I need!

Having done some long-ish passenger rides in these I can confirm that this is a good choice, although I would go for dark green or blue myself.

As Martin says in that spec its probably as good as it gets with Disco 5. Any reason you're not looking at a Full fat Rangie or RR Sport?

The problem with Range Rovers is the rake of the rear window and the impact that has on the boot shape - it's not ideal for dogs. A Sport is out of the question but I will take another look at the full fat.

A Sport is out of the question but I will take another look at the full fat. The FF still has a bit of a slope to the tailgate and the boot is quite a bit smaller than the Discovery (width and height). If Car and Driver are to be believed..... Discovery / FFRRLength Behind First Row (inches) - 77.3 / 78.0 Length Behind Second Row (inches) - 44.1 / 42.9 Width Between Wheelarches (inches) - 55.6 / 44.1 Height (inches) - 35.0 / 33.3 Behind Front Row (cubic feet) - 83.7 / 68.6 Behind Second Row (cubic feet) - 41.2 / 31.8

I've got friends with them so I've had a good nose around, the boot floor is higher as well but that's probably not so much of an issue as we tend to use a dog ramp now.

I like that spec and colour combo - as said the black pack makes a huge positive difference. But on the pricing, it's a 67 plate with 21k miles on it and they still want £45k. Isn't that rather optimisitc?

I really don't like the orange. Not as interesting, but it could well be related to the blind spot monitor....

At least there's a simple button for it though, rather than a deep dive through endless menus on a crappy touchscreen.

The blind spot monitor isn't something I'd want to turn off though, so it's a bit pointless having a button. I thought it might be annoying, but it isn't and I don't know whether this is how they all work or not, but it's pretty smart i.e. It doesn't light up every time you pass a vehicle on the motorway, only if one moves from view and into the blindspot or you indicate.

You can often see them light up as you overtake.

You can often see them light up as you overtake. Yes, they should always do that when. The one annoying thing about the Golf is it has a small square indicator repeater at the edge of the mirror, which is a good idea as you wouldn't leave your indicators on accidentally (providing you use the mirrors). But I check the mirrors, indicate, then look again and see a flashing orange light, which I'm used to meaning someone is in my blindspot!

I thought the button stood for Big Sideways Moment or perhaps Bazooka Stupid Morons (with a couple of James Bond gun flaps at the front) or for those that like to cruise, Bass for Serious Music

Perfect. And big kudos to somebody speccing a FFRR without privacy glass. Top speccing.

And compared to the new BMW 4 series, that front grille, while absolutely huge, looks better integrated into the overall design. In the new bling, bling "look at the size of my grille, won't you" car designer world, Lexus are almost becoming understated. Good grief....

Just buy it and come home with a lovely surprise! This is not the sort of surprise she would be remotely amused by. Apart from that, when we had the same-shape MINI Cooper as an Avis rental in Italy two summers ago, she said she couldn't get on with driving position and didn't like it, so I'd want her to try on again before taking the plunge. Anyway, she's said she wants an electric car next.
