Today, I am mostly wanting the gorgeous green Ferrari 456GT (similar shade to that new green on the Giulia Quadrifoglio) with cognac interior that burbled past as we walked through Chelsea Harbour earlier. I told my wife that if she ever wanted to make me a present of a car, one like that would do very nicely. She admitted it was lovely but told me to dream on.

So you won't ever be like Mr Jules Ide of Edinburgh corresponding in the latest EVO to inform us that his wonderful wife bought him an Aston V12 Vantage S in manual flavour for his birthday. I'm truly gutted for you!

I'm truly gutted for you! I can make a similar claim. Last year Louisa bought me an Aston Martin* for my birthday but I took it back as I didn't like the colour.
*It was an Aston Martin Racing watch.

My wife of the time bought me a Jaguar watch, it worked for a week but the company were not interested in repair or replace and seeing as I was in Riyadh at the time I was unable to do anything about it. Funnily enough it was not the only gift I got to pay for either.

One of those on the roads around you would be an absolute monster. Might need to breath in a bit through the walled corners but when the road opens up, wow!

The walled corners are where I had my moment a couple of days ago! The road surface is also pretty patchy so a stiffly sprung GT-R (or 370Z or 320D for that matter) isn't entirely in its element. They were amusing in the Toyota last night though I haven't actually driven a GT-R but 3 years ago a mate hired one for a weekend and took me out in it for about an hour. Fuck me, that thing is fast but I was surprised when he said that he thought it was actually too fast. That coming from someone who drove a year old RS6 and had a Kawasaki ZZR1400 for fun.

You'll be fine while you can work from home...... It's not that. It was 7am-6pm weekdays only. Now its 7am-10pm including weekends. So no nipping into the West End for dinner or at the weekend, which we are accustomed to doing. As someone who commutes by tube a lot (I also cycle but not when it rains or if I'm working late), I try always to avoid going anywhere near public transport at weekends.

^ I posted that elsewhere earlier on today. £15, up from £11-50 and applicable 7 days per week now, another vicious attack on the motorist where the government asked people not to use public transport but leave it for key workers, then offer the same key workers exemption on the C-charge.

Agreed, it's the seven days a week and till 10pm that will rally rile people. For ages hasn't Khan wanted to extend the area as well? Maybe that will be the next step? I suspect that pedestrian zones and making driving harder will become a "thing" across more towns and cities in the coming years.

I suspect that pedestrian zones and making driving harder will become a "thing" across more towns and cities in the coming years. This will either kill the City as people and businesses move out or it will make the London/rest of country divide even bigger with huge salaries and house prices paid for by large salary increases. Our doctor neighbours (I found out at the weekend) sold their house in London and made enough profit to buy the house next to ours for cash when they moved up. They must have an joint income of £250K+ and no real expenses. I can't blame them for making that lifestyle choice but it doesn't half make me feel that it is all a bit unfair and really isn't sustainable within one country. Politicians need to be very careful with the balance.

Politicians need to be very careful with the balance. I would have thought that many businesses will be re thinking their office requirements post lockdown. They might find their staff more receptive to remote working and be eyeing up a big monthly office bill as a target for cost reduction. One of my big customers has its head office in The Shard. The leadership team has found remote working via teams so agreeable that they are questioning the need for an expensive London office. The Mayor of London signalling that he’s going to make it more painful to live and work there might just be the final straw.

Thats bloody irritating, I was quite fond of driving into London on a weekend for Lunch and a mooch about. Its a bit much to advise against public transport and then charging a fortune on the congestion charge.

Our rent/service charge is the 3rd greatest expenditure but we could easily downsize and still accommodate everyone so if there's going to be some WFH/hot desking I reckon we could half the size of the main office and still not feel cramped. Ironically our landlord is the same company that also provides some of our non-execs and they will be pushing for cost savings so lets see how they take to this. If we could completely relocate it'll leave them with 6500 sq feet of empty office to try to fill. Good luck with that when the City council are busily adding new blocks next to the new V&A building.

I've had lots of discussion on this on LinkedIn. The likelihood is that there will be smaller foot plates with meeting rooms and a few desks. For documents / office stuff that have been printed then the old model of a roll around or locker will be the norm in more places and those smaller footplates might be spread across an estate for larger businesses so if you live in Putney or Fulham and WFH there's a drop down office and meeting space somewhere round Fulham Broadway or Brompton Road to meet people.
Many places have been "under-desked" for years and teams are allocated banks of desks and they arrange between them who's in when during the week so they feel a connection as opposed to WFH 5 days a week (which let's face it is not very human behaviour). If I were in commercial property I'd be looking at offering these kinds of models like a quasi-Regus model where you actually long-lease a space as a business but don't allocate it to individuals.
We've already seen off-estate IT systems and supports (we've changed IT vendor during the lockdown and no one has noticed!) so they don't need desks; same for lots of other support services. The only folks that need to be in and around the office all week are security with cleaning and maintenance on SLA-based call outs and regular services. The office isn't dead but if you work for a medium-large corporate don't expect your own "space" in an office for much longer.

When I was in school the most trumpeted theory around was the in the future nobody would work in an office and they were talking about the 80's and 90's not well into the 2,000's. All meetings held virtually around the world, no need to travel, just meet virtually in your own home office etc.

I agree, but in amongst the bumpf that has been coming out was a comment that people should not to "hot desk" as the desks will not be clean for each person to use. So as well as video conferencing and WFH set up providers, the other growth industry might, ironically, be office cleaning where you actually do it properly. Instead of the current "just wave a hoover around and put a bit of spray polish on the odd desk" approach.

I remember when I first started work someone used to come in and clean and sanitize the phones. I would not be happy hot desking and sharing keyboards and phones - even with a cursory wipe with a disinfectant wipe.

That happened when I started working too, I'd forgotten that.
The easy answer to your concern could be a wireless keyboard and mouse - just take them with you and plug the little thing in to whichever PC your going to use then no need to touch anyone elses stuff. You'd still have to wipe the desk though.

So my normal practice of coming in and licking everything saying "mine" afterwards is a bit of a no-no in this new regime?
PC gone mad I tell you.

Very good.
Apparently if you press the Shift key 5 times it gives you the option to turn on sticky keys. I previously thought that was something only achievable through excessive viewing of porn, but no....
