Anyway, she's said she wants an electric car next. Electric MINI - simples..... Not £12k though, is it!

Can you run a privately owned Green Mini in West London nowadays?

This reminds me of the reaction of a former boss of mine when we were at a government drinks reception when the conversation turned to the various eco-friendly cars the civil servants present all seemed to drive.
Upon being asked, David said rather loftily "ah yes, I too drive a green car" and then smoothly changed the topic. Very much a lawyer's answer. In fact he drove into the City every day in a diesel Range Rover Sport. He was referring to the colour of the bodywork...

Reminds me of when I was working at EA / DEFRA and used to park the Gorilla next to the EV space in the car park under Ergon House.

We don't really have a budget, but the current 500 cost £11k new in 2013, and is literally the only time my wife has ever bought a new car. Her car history isn't remotely interesting - she's only had four cars - a Fiat 126 followed by a Saxo, then a Smart fortwo, and finally the 500, which is the only one I had any input into. Knowing her, I can't see her wanting to spend much more than that.

It must have a huge premium due to low mileage?
I'm sure one of the car mags did a hot hatch special recently (albeit all under 200BHP) and from memory they reckoned a Trophy was about £5,500?

Love Kawasakis - Geordies' favourite motorbikes.

One of my favourite-ever motorbikes! Front end reminiscent of scaffold poles; (felt like) hardly any travel, but kept the front very well planted indeed - on Manx roads at least! That's not too bad a price either.
Been looking at Firestorms recently; £7K and upwards for a 20-year old bike!!

She nearly bought a ZXR-400 a few years ago but settled for an NC29, the 'Baby Blade'. This time round when I suggested the 400 she said a 750 would be more appropriate. I doubt it'll actually happen though.

I suppose bimbling in London would mean you didn't have to be too concerned about crash structures and ABS. I see a 1990s Bentley Continental nose poking out of an archway in the 3rd photo.

I suppose bimbling in London would mean you didn't have to be too concerned about crash structures and ABS. Exactly! In fact I remember that when I finally bid goodbye to my last Mk2 Golf in late 2003 and got myself an A3 1.8TQ instead, I did so for two reasons (apart from finally having qualified as a lawyer and getting a substantial pay rise) - (a) I'd got a bit nervous about charging all over the UK and Europe in a car with crash structure designed in 1984 and (b) I wanted a car with air-conditioning (in fact the A3 came with climate control).

Sure I've said it before but a chap I went to school with who set up his own insurance brokerage had one in about '93 - '94. He also had a terrible gambling habit and ended up owing lots of money to a Chinese syndicate and disappeared early '00s and I'm sure it was not of his own accord!

Especially in white, which probably lowers the price a few hundred thou.

That does indeed look very nice, at a not-too-outrageous price
