If I wanted the ultimate M4 it certainly wouldn't be a metallic khaki convertible one!

And considering joe Achilles has driven the saloon and estate and said how quiet and comfortable it is in comfort mode. I love evo , but it isn’t what it used to be , and take some Of their reviews with a pinch of salt these days , especially if written by people like Jordan katsiantis or whatever his name is Not an M340i, but I’ve just driven 170 miles in a 330i M Sport on 19” wheels with adaptive suspension. It’s not comfortable and it’s not particularly quiet. I’m not comparing it with mine, that wouldn’t be fair, I’m comparing it to the Golf. The Golf has a better ride in comfort, normal is similar to BMW comfort and Race is usable, whereas Sport in the BMW is awful. The BMW only has the two settings for the suspension and the seats don’t help the feeling of comfort. Road noise and general refinement is about the same as the Golf (surprisingly) and I really don’t like the variable sport steering, it feels dead at straight ahead and as soon as you have about 1/8th of a turn of lock on it’s too sharp and feels at odds with the rest of the car. Further thoughts to follow..... Interesting . On a side note , have you seen joe Achilles has just taken delivery of a new 7 series . The front is hideous

I’m getting used to the X5/X7 grille now, but not the 7, they’ve ruined it.

I'll be really interested to hear what you think of the new 3 series Martin. Given that you have the Golf R, the performance model, and it rides better than the normal (MSport being the norm in the UK) 3 series, it is perhaps no surprise that I haven't seen many new 3 series on the road despite the big discounts and the marketing.

I'm going to MK later this morning, so a 50 mile round trip on A roads I know well, that will be interesting. More motorway tomorrow, will have done over 500 miles by the time I drop it off tomorrow afternoon which is a decent test drive. The tyre pressures are right, always worth checking, the sensors pick up tyre temp now as well (mine doesn't).

Mine does the temperatures as well - quite interesting to see how it changes the required pressure based on temperature (I am sure that most of us on here already blow the tyres up a bit in winter and let them down a bit in summer to match the differing ambient temperatures)

Lovely! No voodoo cruise though - might be a deal-breaker that!!

That is a lovely car and a colour I have never seen on an XJR before. Buying used always requires a small compromise somewhere.

I like that a lot. I regularly see a 2011 XJ diesel on my commute and somehow it stands out as almost a piece of exotica among the usual commuter fodder hatches and German stuff. Maybe as a result of me passing a significant age milestone it now appeals a LOT more than at any time past.
Are you looking to replace the XFR?

You'll be chopping in the BMW for a Jaaag next then :-) I don't think I can get my head round the maths or the need, sadly. We seem to use Mini most of the time. Or else I'd be straight onto that dealer for that blue XJR.

Well maybe. I'm fairly convinced I need an estate (despite looking at 4 series!) but then I do like the look of the late model Mk1 XF estates.
While the XJ is lovely I'd be waiting another 6-12 months to see how much lower the price goes although obviously you might not get one that is in that lovely colour.

I still can't get on with this generation of XJ - it's the sad piggy little low-set eyes and pronounced square snout that make it look somewhat like a dehorned rhino to me.

I think they are great, somewhat understated and never brash. The very definition of style.

If I had a lottery win I might just seek a good one out. Like THAT will happen but nice to dream.

I think it's a bit pricy, they probably wouldn't give me much more for mine, but it's a lot of comfort and luxury for under £30k. You can't go too wrong with the spec as it has a lot as standard, but 20" wheels, surround view and HK speakers would be the minimum for me. I'd find one without the chrome trim, I really don't like the chrome on the sides and nose.

Motorpoint in Glasgow have a 2017 version without the chrome, but it isn't an xDrive. It is a couple of grand cheaper though.

You should be able to get a 740d for sub £30k as well, they've all for xDrive.

For anyone with cash this could be a very good time to be looking at cars. Apparently used prices were falling like a stone just over a week ago and We Buy Any Car have now pulled their website valuations in case people thought they were partly responsible. The rush for cash is going to be strong.

No idea if this is a good price or not .. .. . but, it does look rather smart! Lotus Carlton

The black wheels wouldn’t be my first choice, but apart from that it’s pretty much perfect. £150k new in that spec, has everything I’d want (voodoo lights, sports design, sports exhaust, surround view) and more (Seat ventilation, auxiliary heating, voodoo cruise etc). Change the mix on car usage to get the mileage down to 15,000 a year and it would be about the same to own as the 750. Would have to put more into it upfront, but waste of time having savings when interest rates are poor.... No good now though, only 4 seats. www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201909102054111?atmobcid=soc3

Lotus Carlton - looks great. I bet the wheels on it are no bigger than what we nowadays deem necessary on a family shopping wagon.

Ooh that's stunning. These and 3200's would be ideal for a fantasy (but reasonably priced garage). Not one I'd rely on for a daily driver, though...
