....and it's coming back. Done a deal to buy it back when I get back from Scotland. Excellent way to get all the niggles fixed 😂👍

Niggles are getting fixed. Being laid up hasn't been kind to rubber fuel lines so these are getting replaced.
New uprated radiator, cooler thermostat and fan switch should see running temperatures drop hopefully. Carb spacer should see better running due to less fuel vaporisation due to heat.
Im going to paint it Deep Bronze Green when I get a nice day.
It is currently taxed and MOT exempted as historic - had to go to post office to sort this as they initially wanted £350 to tax it online.

After waiting on some new coolant hoses from Carbuilder, the new mega expensive aluminium high performance radiator is in. Lower 74 degree thermostat and 86/79 fan switch has it running at a much more reasonable temperature. Gauge is any way between middle and red, but never in the red. It was almost permanently just under the red prior.
I've also tuned the carb and set the timing using a vacuum guage which has got rid of the bog down when accelerating. This will probably help with running temperatures too. It's running 12 degrees of advance at idle instead of 8. Took it for a drive and it feels great.
I've ordered 2.5 litres of Deep Bronze Green and other painting supplies.

Had a drive out today and the throttle cable snapped. Luckily I'm an advocate of carrying a Leatherman and I managed to bodge the connection at the carb to get home. Failing that I would have screwed the idle as high as it would go.
I rerouted the cable and cut the frayed end so don't need a new cable. Bonus.

Primer to undercoat. Gives a picture of the finished project.

I'm going to be busy leading silage and straw for the next few days so it's going to be a little while before the top coats go on.
This undercoat is going to need some sanding down and some minor blemishes filling with high build.
I've ordered some period riveted number plates to finish it off as the modern one set my teeth on edge.

Keeping the wheels - they are being painted black.

Aren't they more traditional in white with a few rust streaks?

It should have body coloured wheels in this colour, in theory. 😂

Please don't paint the wheels black. I think it will just look wrong. Green or white please.

Plenty of Series have black wheels. If it were on 7.50 R16 on skinny rims then I would have gone limestone, but the black will distract from the fact it's on 10 spokes and chunky tyres.

I can see a mini-roller in the earlier photo. How do you get at all the fiddle areas - brush? In which case what a great finish!!

Yes, roller and a brush. You lay it off in one direction with a brush after application on each section - it's coach enamel and designed to be put on that way.

I thought you’d painted it with a hammer to give it more ‘character’!
Seriously….thats a really good job, fair to say it’s been transformed.

I've got 3/4 of a 10 litre tub of Sandtex limestone if you want some

I am sure one day JLR will have to start building Defender Classics again from parts kits - just so that they can then rebuild them again to make them as desirable as these special editions seem to be.
