Lovely! Most of the mechanics are very simple, but I have to admit, I don't ever want to dismantle and rebuild a gearbox again.

Gearbox and transfer box are in the car. It fired up and I ran it through all the gears and checked the 4x4 system. All works as it should. Just got the propshafts to install before road test, then the floors can go back in.
Happy days!

What are you going to do with these long winter evenings if everything on the car works?

It doesn't fit in the garage any more, so not a lot other that sitting in front of the fire!
There are a couple of other bits and pieces.
I need to give the starter a good clean as it keeps sticking and I would like to upgrade the cooling system. I have some door seals to fit too.

It's all back up and running properly. I opted for a new starter motor. The solenoid was knackered on the old one and a new starter was only an extra £20. It isn't exactly the same, but handily, Rover V8s all have the same ring gear regardless of flywheel type. Good job, as the starter I took off is £220 exchange rather than £60 outright for the more modern one.
Door seals fitted which is a massive change. Dramatically cut down on draughts and rattles.

I've ordered an oil filter and oil for its running in oil change.

I haven't done an in-car video of this yet. Sorry about the crap vibrations as I only had the phone and mount. I will do GoPro one at some point.

Went to Brass Monkeys at the Station on Sunday.
It was marginly disappointing after previous years, but I did still enjoy the day out.

Just ordered a pair of halogen headlights to replace the sealed candles. Aren't there people doing LED headlight upgrades for Defenders now - like the ones on the run out Defenders?

Yes, but I really dislike the look of them and they are expensive. These look just like the sealed beams and were £25 for Wipac lenses including bulbs.

I saw one fitted with what looked like LED units in Bicester yesterday, the DRLs in the centre of the lights were flashing orange as well as the indicators (it was parked on a kerb with hazards on)

My point exactly. Far too much bling for a Land Rover - especially a Series one.

Halogen lights arrived today and they are much better than the sealed beams.
I've been umming and ahhing about the Series and I'm itchy for another project. I've decided I'm going to paint it in the spring and put it for sale.

I've put it on ebay at £8k. Probably too optimistic, but I will give it a while and see what happens. In the meantime I'm going to keep driving and enjoying it.

Well, that was quick. Provisionally sold to a friend in the village. I just need to put a clutch slave on it as it is playing up and then the search for the next project starts in earnest.

Just be careful selling to a mate. He’ll know where to find you if it goes wrong. Whats the plan plan for the next project? You done with Landies or will you look for another series to restore?
