As I mentioned elsewhere, the Legacy is off the road at the moment until I can get diagnosis for the horrible rumbling (and a one-off cloud of smoke!) emanating from the NSF. My own thought is a knackered bearing, but I don't have the equipment (or knowledge to be honest) to find out for myself and the earliest I can get a trusted garage to look for me is Thursday - this from last Thursday! So, the thread-line car is what I've ended up with in the Enterprise car lottery. It's a class above what I booked, as they didn't have any class 'B' cars in stock. This is in what Vauxhall class as orange, though everyone I've asked reckons it's gold. Here are a few shots to let you make your own mind up. One of the design features on many cars of this ilk I detest is the kid-on bump-plates fitted to the rears, and sometimes the front too; thusly .. .. .. Nasty. Inside is quite a nice place to be, with comfortable leather seats, heated of course, and decent enough air con. The infotainment screen is, naturally, light years ahead of what is in the Subaru. That is the case with just about any car these days though - must remember I'll have owned the Legacy for 10 years come September! Nice though the seats are, I feel they're let down a little by manual adjustment controls; I would have thought a car with this level of equipment would merit electric seats, no? This pic shows the single biggest annoyance for me - anyone guess what it is? The boot will be a huge disappointment to ChrisM; loads of space for a spare wheel, wheelbrace etc, but it'll cost you an extra £110 to fill those holes! The not terribly impressive motive unit - 1.4 litres of turbocharged . . . . wheeziness! So, how does it drive? Much as you'd expect I suppose; not especially quick off the mark, soft and a bit bouncy round the corners and, although it holds the road well enough, that's despite a lack of any decent steering feel or feedback rather than because of it. The car holds motorway speeds easily enough, once it gets there, but the other major issue for me is the noise; this is a very noisy car inside, much louder than my Legacy, which I think is pretty loud itself! It wears similarly wide tyres to mine I think, so I don't know if it's the extra rom round about them in the arches or what - thankfully the decent (to me!) stereo drowns the worst of the noise out. From my meandering through the configurator, this car retails at c.£26K as it stands here. I'd need a really big discount to get anywhere near an OTR price I'd be even a little bit happy with, to the point I don't think it would be possible! Still, it's nice enough for what it is, just not enough to want one - especially at £900 for a new headlight!

If Simon hadn't got his light sorted you could have done a cheeky swap!

Single biggest annoyance? Either the over-stylised handbrake or the gearlever

I don't suppose any of these are bought full price. They'll all be on £250 a month PCPs, change after 3 years into a new one.

If that is "Orange" then what colour are the fruits that bear that name?
Mokka's seem very popular - I see a lot of them about. As bob says, probably on cheap PCP deals.

Vx are not having a good time with actual retail sales. They've started pushing "a great British brand" angle in their adverts - a sure sign they are in trouble - see MG Rover before their demise. I imagine PSA are delighted they'll soon be able to close UK operations and cite Brexit as the reason.

That looks quite similar to Fiats old Burnt Orange colour.
Does it have those special Vauxhall unlit-until-the-lights-are-on headlight controls that are hidden away out of sight down by your right knee so you can't find them in the dark?

What a horrible dull piece of shit Agreed. Quite why anyone would part with anything approaching £26k for that I just don't know. Significantly less money would get you into a less than one year old BMW 218i or 220i M Sport Active Tourer.

£299 advance payment on Motab.
Discounts and low rate finance on retail. You’d struggle to buy a 1 year old BMW 218d for £299 down £299 a month or whatever it costs.

At least you're keeping it in the family since the Active Tourer looks like a last gen Zafira
I'd rather have the Mokka than the pensioner wagon that is the 2.

The headlight control isn't that low, being at the bottom edge of the right-hand dial. The (rotary) control, which is in two of the pics above incidentally, defaults to auto every time you switch the ignition off/on, which would be fine if (a) it wasn't so damn sensitive and (b) extremely slow to turn the lights off again once back in brighter light. It goes back on Saturday, all being well, and I can't wait!

I think you are confusing it with the Gran Tourer, which is less appealing than the AT. Neither are the dog's danglies but, IMO, a good alternative to someone in the market for the Mokka.

I wasn't aware of there being more than one! However, when I see them they are always in a bland combo of uninteresting colour with shirt button wheels. They absolutely fail to create any appeal.

Yes, many are just the relatively basic SE spec. In M Sport trim and a decent colour they look quite decent for a family / school run car, IMO.

They are better than a lot of similar vehicles and you have the option of a decent engine. The Mokka is awful and I can’t believe the price either

Does it have a 6 pot petrol?
I presume the £26k Mokka is top of the range, 4wd, etc. The BMW equivalent would probably be nearer £40k

No. A 190hp petrol and diesel plus a 225hp hybrid are the top engines.
Looking at prices on Broadspeed, a 220i M Sport is £30k vs £25-27k for the top end Mokkas. Both expensive.

Nope. The 'top' engine in this would be the 1.6CDTi (136PS) Start/Stop, 6-speed, manual in 4X4 guise; that would set you back a further £2250!!

Would've been a no go on the headlight swap, the Mokka X looks totally different.

I'm pretty sure the Mokka will not last too long under PSA as the Crossland (that is based on a PSA platform) seems to be the same price range.

I'm pretty sure the Mokka will not last too long under PSA as the Crossland (that is based on a PSA platform) seems to be the same price range. Well apparently it’s being kept in because the platform for the Crossland doesn’t allow 4wd. So the crossland is only for those who want to look like they want to go off road whereas the Mokka allows you to actually go off road - though it’s probably best if Ian doesn’t accept Mark’s invite to join him for a spot of green laning! Ive had several Mokka’s from Enterprise when I’ve been on business in Scotland and N. Ireland so I think it’s their car of choice rather than an upgrade. I must admit I’ve never much liked it though. It’s ok to a point but not with the hire car spec 1.6 NA petrol I was one given. It only had a 5 speed box and was pulling almost 3000rpm on the motorway and making a bloody racket of it too.
