Saw the new 3-Series at the local dealer yesterday. It’s strange; in real life it looks a lot better than it does in the photos. The M Sport front bumper doesn’t look as busy, the grille isn’t so dreadful, and the tail lights are different – but in a good way. I’ve got too used to the L-shaped style over the years. On the inside, I like how the I Drive screen is together with the dials, going away from the “stuck on” look with the previous generation of BMW’s. The retention of buttons for key functions is also welcome.
At least on the exterior, it doesn’t make the F30 look dated, just different.
There was also a X2 35i, priced at 48k. It’s good to see BMW finally putting decent-looking seats in a non-M BMW. On the inside it felt like a slight downgrade to the G20’s interior, I wonder if the X2 LCI will bring it more in line with the newer BMW’s. Just next to that, they had an X3 M40i at 55k. Now obviously there is a price difference, but in terms of a monthly payment, the difference wouldn’t be as great. Considering you get a six pot in the X3, that would be a decisive factor for me. But then I much preferred the lower driving position in the X2 – if only they could make an X2 40i….
I saw an M4 CS for sale last November at the dealer, the same car was still for sale. It illustrates that the M3/M4CS were pay overpriced for what they were, depreciation has been pretty savage - the pre-owned ones for sale are barley more than a new M4 Competition. Best bit was an M2 Competition manual next to a blue Z4 40i. It made me think: the new X2, X3 etc are nice cars, but cars like the M2 and Z4 remind me of BMW’s heritage. Therefore, I’m glad that the RWD coupe will continue in the future with the next 2-Series.

Lots of Ferraris out and about today - a red 488, a yellow 458, a couple of Californias - but best of all, a Renault 5 Turbo 2 mid engined thingy in off-white. And then about 400 yards from my house - a silver Passat W8 4Motion on a 52 plate!

I saw a Passat W8 yesterday too, but a black one. I also saw a Ford GT and a Dodge Viper.

Saw two RS6s within a few minutes the other day but I was in Ascot at the time. They have to be the hardest looking estate cars of all time. Look like they want to kick shit out of all the other puny cars around them!

Last week I saw my first Urus - a black one. I thought it looked pretty good for a vehicle of its type.

Last week I saw my first Urus - a black one. I thought it looked pretty good for a vehicle of its type. I saw one up close at one of the Queens Square Breakfast Club events that Dan G had organised in Bristol. It was in a dark metallic grey and it looked absolutely superb. And it sounded superb. In that colour it was very, very likeable indeed.

I saw an absolutely immaculate 1992 Rover 414SLi yesterday. I'm guessing it has been garaged its whole life as the dealer sticker was original but looked as if it had been applied yesterday.

Not quite today but last weekend. Two 17 plate new shape Discoveries, one of which has had some reworking of the boot to centre the number plate - it makes quite a difference!

Thought I saw two Cupra Atecai today but it turned out one was a SEAT FR version. They looked virtually identical except that the FR owner had been able to afford metallic paint not free white.

I think you mean 'less bad'! I do, yes! It still looks like a double decker bus, but at least it’s not a lopsided one.

A Ford X-type Mondeo, owned by the estate snob. Gets properly upset when reminded it's not a pukka Jag.

I wonder how they did it? Aftermarket parts? Googled it and you can buy a conversion kit from Startech for £600 but it doesn’t look quite the same. There’s an instructional video on YouTube, it involves cutting the bodywork away but I only had a quick flick through

Forgot that yesterday I saw my first i-Pace on the road, apart from the one Piers borrowed last year for Prescott. I immediately recognised it as a Jaguar but my brain was asking why the F-Pace up ahead was so low for a few seconds until it dawned on me what it was! Doesn't look too special in white either.

Grinall Scorpion 3-wheeled thing; can't be too many of them around !
I also note that I've not seen any Triumph Stags for a while but I have seen a number of Dolomites, presumably some of them would have been Sprints including a very tidy white one this afternoon

2 Aston Martin DB6s and a DB4. They were parked at the side of the road and I stopped to chat. The senior guy there has a restoration company and they had just finished restoring them, ready for a magazine shoot. The DB6s took 2 years each. They looked fantastic., and made the 997 GT3 I saw on the way home look a bit crass.

Yesterday while going to the local stupor market. I saw a very interesting chassis coming towards me on the same side of the road as me, came to a halt at a minor junction she continued jogging on the spot. Some parts were jogging a bit more than others and I nearly dropped my ice cream or I would have if I had one.......... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I just saw a lovely 1990 SAAB 900 Turbo S. I'm sure they're probably not the most exciting thing to drive but I think I'd really like one.

Original Micra MK1, a bit shabby but not too bad condition wise actually.

I saw a facelift 7 series yesterday. In a mid grey colour with Sport trim, black grille and a number plate, it didn’t look as bad as the ones in the pictures, but still not good and a big step backwards. The size of the grille isn’t any worse than an A6/A8 and maybe even the current A4, problem is it’s higher than the top of the headlights and goes into the grille. No mistaking it for a 5 now if that was a concern, but I appreciate the touch of discretion.
