If someone said to me 5 years ago that: 1) Jaguar would be selling a 4 cylinder diesel SUV and 2) That I would buy one. I would have washed their dirty mouth out with soap and water.
I need my car back and therefore a stop gap for the missus. Work discount + high GMFV = Ludicrously cheap 12 month PCP. It's a 20d AWD Auto R-Sport in Fuji white with zero options (all they had in stock). I'm stuck with Truckzilla until my XF S is built...

I like the car but not the colour. The Discovery looks particularly good in that shot.

Worry not, I catch myself liking these types of cars now and then and the F-Pace is deffo up there with the best. A 3.0 petrol with the gangsta wheels for me but damn their expensive.

I agree with Michael too. The Disco looks fabulous there.

Interior pic added - it's better than I was expecting.
I don't like white - but it's free and it's the only one they had, so that's just a titty of the tough variety.
Surprisingly, the GMFV of the 380ps V6 S means that it's not much more expensive than 20d R-Sport - but there are none in stock and the lead time is months. So maybe next time round.
On the subject of Truckzilla, I find the level of vitriol re: the styling quite bizarre. It's done over 5,000 miles now and has loosened up a fair bit, it's not fast and you will never win a TLGP due to the step off delay, but it's not slow and it makes an agreeable V6 hum most of the time. Great refinement though and it is spectacularly comfortable to do big miles in. A weekend with a Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography clearly illustrates the Discovery's blood line, because aside from the acres of dead cow and some extra muscle, there isn't much difference in the way they look, feel and drive.
Still doesn't change the fact I am ripping to get into an XF 3.0 diesel A.S.A mutha fuckin P

Make sure you report the vitriol over the styling back to HQ. They should fire the designer.
But then I don't think much of the F-Pace either.

I cannot agree with your comments on aesthetics when you think the mini countryman is a " smart piece of kit "
However, in the interests of balance, neither the Discovery 5 or F-Pace are beauties by any stretch of the imagination and both are resolutely " not my bag "

Is it just me or does the F-Place look particularly bad in that front shot? White does it no favours, making it appear to have vast, uneven panel gaps and odd styling creases
Maybe it should be F-Plaice, not F-Place (or F-Pace) as there is something fishy about it ?

It's resolutely not my bag at all, but a far more appealing proposition than any of its competitors. A black one driving around the village looked pretty tidy.

I like the F-Pace and could even live with it in white, although not if I had the choice of another colour.
Interesting to hear that the 380 hp V6S has a good residual - I always thought that they'd go down like stones and it would only be the 3.0s diesel that held it's value. But the times they clearly are a'changing.
Agree that the Disco looks good in that shot - mean looking somehow.

It's completely gopping. But yes, the old one is quite neat and well-resolved in my eyes.
It's a question of proportions for me. The D5 is ugly and can never look good because the proportions have been utterly cocked up. Whereas the F-Pace isn't per se ugly and is better proportioned (provided you give it big wheels) but some of the detailing doesn't work (mainly the slitty F-Type-style rear lights) and, rather like the Velar, the overall effect is just a bit too flash for my taste.

I like them in the right colour with decent wheels. Not my thing really, but even so, I'd have one over a new XF as I really can't get on with the styling. The main problem with the F Pace S is (based on the last time I looked), too high monthly costs on a PCP for what you get.

No idea - I've not sat in the front yet, never mind drive it.
If it helps, the engine is very quiet at idle (clearly big strides have been made with refinement and isolation), but still not becoming of a Jaaag waaah.
GMFV £3k higher than the diesel S at 12 months an 6k miles (£40k vs £37k).

I felt that "oh yes he is!" was a bit predictable.
I think that Disco 5 is rather colour sensitive. To me, anyway.

The F-Pace I think looks ace but can be spec sensitive. The Disco makes me shudder everytime I see the back of one. In fact I was following one down a B road last week when I could take no more and took a detour just to get away from it.

I like the Disco 4 but this morning I saw one that was white with black wheels and in that colour combo it looked dated. It was a 66 plate which added to the surprise.

We have two sets of friends with newish top-spec Disco 4 SDV6s that have broken down within the last month.
A couple of w/ends ago, we went to visit the first couple at the vast stately pile they've bought in Derbyshire and found them knocking about in very out-of-place-looking white Disco Sport courtesy car instead of their very smart dark blue 2016 D4 Landmark, because it had thrown the latest of a series of tantrums. They were not pleased about it.
Then last w/end, we went to visit the other couple down in Hampshire and found they had a liveried Mitsubishi Barbarian courtesy car (aka the pikeywagon) sitting in their drive because their 2015 D4 had failed to proceed en-route to visit the first couple the previous w/end! Which prompted me to recall that they had also had a replacement courtesy car the previous time we'd been to see them thanks to a different breakdown.
On both occasions I did not resist the temptation to say "I told you so", having been consulted by both prior to purchase and having offered my tuppence-worth that whilst D4s might look the part in the countryside far better than the German and Asian alternatives, they had a pretty terrible reliability record. Unfortunately, the former criterion seems to trump the latter for them and many like them.

In light of the poor reliability reputation of LR products I was surprised to note how many locally registered ones there were when we were up in the far north during the summer - in a part of the world where in the winter you'd really want something you could rely on.
Conversely examples from the German marques were extremely rare.

The reason I'm buying a Discovery, and the reason many others do, is that they're the best cross between utility and car on the market. The X5 and so on are estate cars on stilts, the boot isn't there for heavy duty work and it's not that big either. The closest alternatives are the Land Cruiser and Shogun, both have their following but the Land Cruiser isn't an option for me as they have standard third row seats which raise the boot floor by about 15cm and reduce the headroom by the same amount. Discovery's might break down occasionally but when they're working they are without rival.
