It's quite obvious from the photo that talc has few slimming qualities. I can't imagine anything worse than eating something that dries your mouth up. Yuk.

Maybe she's seen recent news from the US and is hoping to be able to sue them for a few million £ when she gets cancer?

Poor chap. All he did was go to a restaurant for a quiet wank.

It's a poor headline. "Fights" should have been replaced by "beats". The Sun would never have missed such an opportunity.

The number 1 trending 'news' story on the BBC website is that Sandi Toksvig is leaving some cooking programme after 3 years (all gleaned from the headline, I haven't opened the story). Meanwhile in the real world we're all going to fry unless Putin or the Iranians blow us up first, or perhaps Trump and China will really make up and the world will trade freely again. But none of that is as interesting as some mediocre comedienne (who is not only Dutch but also a lesbian, both frequently aluded to by her as host on The News Quiz) is leaving a TV programme

Personally, let the money be raised, take it, and then wire up some massive speakers into the bell tower for a couple of grand and knock the money off refurbishment bill - call it a Brexit dividend.

Technically, Toksvig is British, but was born in Denmark. Never been Dutch at any point as far as I know.

Is that really news? I thought all living things emitted gases of some sort; many of them very unpleasant!

PETA are generally lunatics.
As you may be aware, I can be somewhat "woke" when it comes to green issues and conservation, but I generally abhor a great deal of animal rights activism. In my view, the activists are often really promoting their own rights (to impose their view on others) rather than necessarily the actual rights of the animals.
Don't get me wrong - I've been fascinated by nature and wildlife since I was a small child, and am fond of pet dogs and cats. But animals are not people and they do not have the same rights, and the sentimental claptrap that PETA comes out with on a tediously frequent basis simply undermines any good work done to reduce actual animal cruelty.

I'm generally of the view that some of the worst characteristics of mankind are found in animal rights activists.

What's going to happen in the NE of England when all the husbands have to stop calling their wives "pet". I have one client and that is the only name he ever uses for his wife!

PETA can promote the rights of animals in the manner that they do when they start to make animals understand the responsibilities that come with these rights.

PETA are right out there in the nutter wing of animal activism. And dangerous with it.

PETA are right out there in the nutter wing of animal activism. And dangerous with it. I've a friend who can sympathise with that. I He's a member of the hunting fraternity and has had a lot of run ins with sabos, some of which have not been at all pleasant.

The head of the Environment Agency says new houses shouldn't be built on flood plains. No shit Sherlock! Give that man a pay rise. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51620992

The head of the Environment Agency says new houses shouldn't be built on flood plains. No shit Sherlock! Give that man a pay rise. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51620992And in Bearsden and Milngavie they have just built over 500 new homes on ground that used to be flooded on a regular basis. All houses were built up on concrete rafts but most people local won't touch them. I presume that the council could only think about the 500 x £3,000 a year council tax they were going to get. It's a pity they didn't also think about the fact that all the local schools are full, there is next to no doctor or dentist capacity left and the roads can't cope. If those families (some of whom have paid c£800K) can't get a school place, can't register with a doctor and then find themselves flooded, I think they should be able to sue the individual council employees who made those decisions.

The EA isn't fit for purpose. Watercourses need properly maintaining so they can cope with the volume of water.
The Tyne at Corbridge (where it floods with regular occurance these days) has a gravel and silt island built up with trees growing on it that virtually spans the whole river. Friends of mine have photos where the island is a tiny dot in the middle with a single tree. If the river is full of gravel and silt then surely any excess water goes over the banks.
