My comments re ride stand unchanged, though any sense of 'wander' has disappeared - I'd forgotten I'd written that. Still nice and quiet.
The steering doesn't seem to weight up more through the increased cornering loads that the tyre can carry, which I was expecting. Neither a plus nor a minus, just an observation.
They cope much better with being asked to both corner and accelerate or brake, which does suggest noticeably greater overall grip levels. I haven't really got to the point of pushing over the limits yet, it seems.
Right choice to change, I think. Wonder how Stunts is getting on...

Much the same. still quieter and better riding, perhaps a smidge more steering feel but not much in it, better traction out of roundabouts (but this is probably largely due to being new versus the well-used previous set). I've yet to have a proper drive in them in the wet, will report back once I've done some meaningful wet mileage...
May I ask how much you paid? Mine cost 911 pounds all in.

They do seem good in the wet, and from cold, too.
£885 iirc, though I suspect we're looking at differing sizes - mine are 255/35R19s, I suspect your fronts might be slightly narrower and rears slightly wider?

I think they were for the M3!

Mine are 19s, 245/35 front and 265/35 rear. And yes for the M3, the price was a near coincidence (it was 910.something pounds). My keyboard seems to have misplaced the pound symbol I need a new set of Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres on the GT4 soon, because I melted mine a bit at Rockingham last month

Don't want to hijack the thread but my car just passed its MOT at 28,000 and 4 years old and apart from one tyre which I had to replace at 5,000 miles due to a bulge, it is still running the original Bridgestone S001's with 3.5mm of tread left. Apart from rear tyres on FWD cars I don't think I have ever had tyres last so long and they get plenty of abuse.

I'm guessing that's the lack of wheelspin when giving it the beans that 4wd gives, and that you take for granted quite quickly.

I've got a similar level of wear from the Goodyears on my 320, I don't think its the lack of wheelspin, just that they're specified with a hard compound perhaps?
Even the Pirellis on the rear of the 370, that have done about 8k miles, are relatively unworn which is a surprise after all the publicity Pirellis got when fitted to the Alfa Giulia QF. Mine aren't that soft a compound but the treadwear rating is still 200. Perhaps it says more about the lack of Queefism in my driving and the fact I rarely get a hint of wheelspin due to good dry grip and general all-round fear in the wet.

I have been well in to car change mode for a while now and recently drove both a C63 and a C43. On a wet road, the C43 is the quicker car without doubt but in coupe form it is quite small inside and the boot is a good bit smaller than mine. I liked it but didn't really want it. I also drove a C63 (there are some pre reg versions of the pre facelift cars for c£52,000) and I am tempted - it sounds great and it goes so well once you are away from a standstill. But it has the same size drawbacks compared to mine (my daughter is now 5'8" and said she didn't have enough room in the back). The E53 coupe I like the sound of, with 430hp and another short burst 20hp from an electric system and it is a good bit bigger than the C Class although no bigger than mine inside from what I could see/feel. The E53 will probably be too expensive - the brokers have them around £63K and that's too much for me. I ventured over to Audi and they wanted £72 big ones for an ex demo car - who are they kidding? Even used 17 plate cars are well into the mid to high £50K's which is too much.
Come on BMW where is your 400+hp 4wd coupe?

The X4 M is on its way...... Interesting re the S001s, I’ve got them on the BMW but haven’t checked the wear so not sure how long they’ll last. They are quite a bit more expensive than the Goodyears which I had and liked on the 5 (over £1000 for a set), so I’m not sure what I’ll do when the time comes to change. The Golfwill be going onto PS4s.

I did a full oil, tyres, screenwash etc this morning - turns out that the tyre monkeys (who had been very diligent about correct pressures) had put the more heavily-inflated fronts at the back, and the less heavily-inflated rears on the front (f 2.55 bar, r 2.4). Car shows no 'wander' at the front, the ride is much improved (probably as good as the Goodyears) and it actually feels as though the speed of the rack is slightly quicker off centre - though obviously it isn't.
Never trust anyone else with things like this...

I am thinking of slightly wider tyes due to the difficulty of getting decent tyres for Bess.

Well I have new boots all round and am £944 lighter in wallet. So far I have been to Golders Green and back and Kingston and back, so about 50 miles in all at an average speed of 12.1 mph. They work at that speed

Having properly settled in with them, they are great tyres. Ride definitely not quite as good as the Goodyears, but I see no other downsides.

Went for a spirited drive after swimming this afternoon, and the tyres have clearly bedded in. Fuck me they're good. Grippy, predictable and feelsome. I am impressed.

I've just had four new Pirelli Scorpions put on mine ahead of winter. One of the wheels needed balancing which has contributed to an perceptible improvement in refinement. I was able to keep three of the old tyres but they are differently worn so it's nice to get things equalized in that respect.

I’m never sure if there isnt a hint of exaggeration in my father in law’s tales, but I believe he brought the Scorpion to market as a product manager for Pirelli and possibly came up with the name. Same guy that owned Landmaster - he has a lot (and I mean a lot) of anecdotes.
It is a miracle if his dinner isn’t cold and untouched when everyone else has finished.

Farmer at the back of mine has a Landmaster in his shed. His is the tatty survivor mentioned on Wikipedia.

Should have been the ruin of Land Rover apparently!

Never really got on with the Sport Contact 5s ,which were at 1.9mm, so went back to Michelin . I had PS3s before the Contis and loved them. Quiet, mega grippy (both in dry and wet). Only done 50 miles on the PS4’s so far but I already prefer them to when I had the Contis brand new.

Just out of curiosity, any reason you went PS4 rather than PS4S?

Is that so? I thought Ross (cbeaks) went for them on something that I would have thought had smaller wheels, but could be (and indeed am) probably wrong!

They’re available in 18” outside the UK, but not here for some reason, unless it’s changed recently. The PS4 is supposed to be excellent and pretty close to the S.

Wasn’t that Pilot Supersports on a Fiesta ST , which confusingly they did make in size 18s too The PS4S was supposed to be the replacement for the PSS, but they still make them. I asked Dan J about it, and he said the PSS wear a lot quicker and aren’t anywhere near as good in the wet. For a great all round performance tyre in this country he said PS4/PS4S all the way .
