Tim, I forgot to mention - did you download the Suunto app to your mobile? You will need to in order to pair them, which allows fitness tracking (which I don't use) but also sends caller ID and texts etc to the watch. It's called Suunto Movescount and it's there at the Google Play store - I'm sure there's an Apple version if you are that way inclined!
I am an Appleist! I haven't downloaded the app yet but saw it was available (when I was looking at the watch). I'm not wearing it to work as it doesn't fit under a shirt cuff - although a colleague suggested I take Jackie Stewart's example and get shirts with a custom made larger left cuff to accommodate the large watch! I fully charged it a week ago and as far as I can tell there's 50% battery left.

I'm perfectly happy to have cuff pushed up by watch, myself!

I am unclear how comfortable I would be wearing a £27k watch!

I am unclear how comfortable I would be wearing a £27k watch! I am quite clear - I couldn't do it!
I have a client who loves his Rolex Daytona. I like them too and always admired his white faced steel version. About 3 years ago he traded it in for a black faced steel one with something slightly different in the mechanism - that had a retail price of over £17,000. About 6 months ago when I met him, I thought his watch looked different - still a black face with a silver body but it had a different coloured second hand and some of the hour marks were a different colour. He had traded it in again for a white gold version - £35K!!!
All his watches looked good but I could never understand the desire to trade up from c£12,000 to £35,000 for something that basically looks the same and performs the same function with almost identical precision.
If I won the lottery though................I'd probably still have the £12K one.

That’s a used one. I think they’re 36k CHF new. I’d have no qualms wearing it dependent on the occasion. I maybe wouldn’t nip out to get a take away wearing it but driving to the country club I’d be fine.
Remember most casual tea leafs wouldn’t know what it was anyway.

Even if I won the Euromillions on a multiple rollover week I'd not buy an expensive watch. I'd rather give 27 grand to a charity than pay that for a bleedin' watch.

My brother has a Patek Philippe dress watch and a Panerai as well as a few other nice pieces, all of which he bought before he became a grumpy old man complaining about having no money. He wears an old Omega speedmaster most days and the others sit in a box being wound up regularly.
That watch would buy a nice M3!

That watch will not depreciate ( more than likely appreciate in value )like an M3.

There is a balance between what you provide for your offspring and what you enjoy whilst alive. I’d enjoy the watch and be able to bequeath it.

I am slightly ashamed to discover that I have been wearing my Rolex now for nearly 9 years and only this morning discovered that it has a so-called "Easylink" feature on the bracelet that ingeniously allows you to expand or tighten the bracelet by 5mm without removing it.

So are you putting on or losing weight?

Actually it's temperature-related - in hot or cold weather, your wrist and the watch expand at different rates. In cold weather the watch is looser than it is in hot weather.

My Elliot Brown watch has that; a very useful feature.

Marks and Spencer sell trousers that do a similar thing for those heavy lunches.

I have 3 watches I use on a regular basis: My wedding present, the TAG and my first nice watch an Oris Tt1 (had this as a reward for a promotion waay back in 2004) This has proved indestructible (thankfully) at one point I managed to pin my wrist between an engine mount and an A series engine, the watch took the pressure directly on its face, but didn't break! Neither of these automatics have been serviced, yet still keep time, so maybe the whole servicing thing is a con? My holiday watch, if I am going somewhere where the wrong attention can cause issues, this one passes without comment

I think servicing is best done as and when required. They say every 4-5 years but like most people I completely ignore that.
I've only ever serviced my watches if they needed it - the TAG once because I broke the sapphire glass in a skiing accident, and the Rolex once because it started to rattle when you shook it after nearly a decade of daily wear and tear, which seemed best not to ignore.
That Timex is nice - Submariner-style. I have a couple of old Swatch Irony watches for use in dodgy places.
This is my collection:

Ha ha. Or rather a magpie's tendency to never throw anything away! For example, the watch top left was given to me by my parents when I was 14. In fact, looking at it, I actually bought only three of those - being the middle three on the bottom row. The rest were given to me.

Seems the Carrera is the forum watch of choice. If your offering I'd take your Milguass but What's the watch on the bottom right.

It's an AVI-8 "Hawker Hurricane", which my wife gave me as a surprise anniversary present last year. Not remotely expensive by watch standards but proof that things don't need to be expensive to be desirable. It's a little on the big side and I'd never heard of the brand before, but actually I really like it and it looks excellent on teamed with winter clothing. avi-8.co.uk/ uk.businessinsider.com/affordable-pilot-watches-avi-8-2016-6 Similar to a Bremont but at a fraction of the cost.

I think this was my first purchase of the year (apart from food) on 1 Jan in Swindon.... reduced in the Fossil shop then a further 30% off for New Year's Day. Just over £50:

I have an opportunity to get one of these watches at a good discount and with both a steel bracelet and the leather (actually rubber) strap.
Firstly I am slightly concerned about spending more money than I have ever done on a watch but the deal is too good to let go past if I might at any time consider such a purchase.
Initially I thought the black with orange was the one to have but I wonder about the plain black. Another consideration is that the black and white one has a GMT function and would normally be about £1,000 more than the other two.
What is the consensus?
