Mercifully I've not come across a turquoise watch (yet)......

^ That's somewhat expensive and only part of it is turquoise! There's an ICE watch for around £80 that is all turquoise (strap included) but it doesn't really interest me

I'm still wearing the watch that started this topic back in 2017 as of today.
I've had a couple of smart watches since, but I always keep going back to the Garmin. I think it is mainly the battery life and reliability. I've just listed my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic on ebay. I have a Samsubg phone which I really like, but the watch is garbage. Battery life is shocking and software is glitchy at best.
I've considered upgrading to the latest Fenix 7, but I don't consider the outlay worth it - it still does everything I need it to do. Wrist heart rate is not the most reliable when working out but I just use a chest strap instead.

I have a couple of automatic Swiss watches which I've had for decades and an automatic Sekonda I bought as a teenager. They all still work. A couple of years ago I started buying cheap Chinese automatics off ebay and I have a little collection now. All keep good time although one was doa as it only went a couple of hours on a big wind before stopping. The seller refunded my money no problem. This is possibly my favourite. I gather it's a copy of a Mondaine. These things cost between £17 and £25.

I’m considering changing my Garmin. I bought it for running 3 1/2 years ago and ended up wearing it all the time- it’s as smart as I need a watch to be, but in the last few weeks, the altimeter has been giving crazy readings, notably since the rain has been so heavy here. A 10k run will show the increase in elevation of 120 flights if stairs, and while I might expect 10-20 in that distance, it’s way off. Thinking of getting one of the solar ones with the better battery life but waiting until I’m willing to spend money on it. Having bought a house and 2 cars in the past 18 months, I’d like my bank account to continue to go in the right direction, and holding off on spending a few hundred will help that.

I really fancy the Fenix 7x Solar with the titanium strap, but I'm feeling too tight to lay out the best part of £900 when my Fenix 5X still does the job.

At the end of last year, my wife bought me the latest Apple Watch series 8 in a sort of dark chrome finish as a combined birthday/Christmas present (when you are born in December you get used to the combination present from an early age).
I have to say that I now rarely wear any of my other watches.

I’ve had my Series 4 Apple Watch for just coming up to 5 year, it’s still OK with decent battery life so I’ve not really been able to justify upgrading. 5 years is a good life and therefore justification I think, so I’ve treated myself to an Ultra. I’ve resisted the (small) temptation to buy the watch that matches the Sport Chrono clock in my car, I wouldn’t get enough wear out of it to justify the cost. It’s a lot cheaper to get it in the car (£900 upgrade) and it’s a lovely thing with a metal polished dial, metal hands etc and I like the way it tidies itself away (all hands to 12 o’clock) when you turn the car off then wakes back up when you start it. shop.porsche.com/gb/en-GB/p/sport-chrono-subsecond-42-P-P6028/4046901927998

I ended up buying the Fenix 7X Pro Solar. Full titanium case and band. It's very nice and works a lot better than the old Fenix 5. Oops

I like that a lot.
It has hints of Bremont about it at a fraction of the cost.

I like it too. I am generally not that interested in watches and don't have a drawer full of them, but that one does make me stop and take notice.

Nice little Focker that. My sister and brother-in-law were mugged outside their villa in Mallorca on the first night of their holiday last week. Despite my sister fighting back (not sure what my BIL was doing) they got his brand new Rolex, which he'd waited a year for, and was a present for his 50th birthday. It appears they were followed in a car from the restaurant where they'd been eating and the two North African thieves got away in an accompanying car. Cue three days in the police station looking at mugshots as there has been a huge number of Rolex thefts on the island - the police think they are being shipped to willing buyers in Russia who can't get them through the normal channels these days. The serial number has been logged and insurance claim submitted but BIL has said he won't be replacing it as there's no point - you can't wear them in London, now you can't wear them on holiday, and at home he's working and doesn't wear a watch anyway.

Therein lies the problem. Rolex watches have got so preposterously valuable and are so easy to steal and flip, that they’ve become a liability sadly.

Not as posh as some of your lots watches but I'm quite pleased with the retro racing clock face I found for my fitbit.

Garmin have a sale on right now that has me very tempted to upgrade my Vivoactive 3. I’ve had it for almost 4 years and it’s been great. Notifications turned off, so it only gets used as an exercise tracker and as a watch beyond that. Thinking of changing to something with better battery life and gos facilities as while it’s accurate, it’s not great for elevation. Last Saturdays 28k run had me climbing the equivalent of 298 flights of stairs, when I was probably closer to about 40 flights.
I’ll probably not buy and then buy just before the sale ends when I convince myself I need to do that!

Elevation issues seem to be a thing for smart watches. My Suunto reckons I'm currently below sea level despite my house being halfway up a hill.

I've tried getting mine to use GPS but it never quite seems to manage to complete, even if I leave it on the table for a while

I don't know if any of you have read the BBC's article or watched the programme about watch stealing in London but it is scary. A 16yr old with a machete is not the kind of person you can reason with or even take a chance at trying to overpower. Would this kind of trouble make you think twice about wearing an expensive watch? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67608184

How do the thieves identify their potential victims apart from the watch wearer showing off? I've got a couple of nice looking watches but the most I've ever spent on a watch is under £300.

Would this kind of trouble make you think twice about wearing an expensive watch? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67608184Yes it does, in big cities anyway. It's one of the reasons for switching to mainly wearing an Apple watch. It's not necessarily because you are walking down the street in a short sleeve shirt with your expensive watch there for all to see. A man was killed very near my office while having his watch stolen. He'd been clocked wearing it in a restaurant and the gang was waiting for him when he left.
