I have assumed that nobody here wants the GC on the assumption they would have squeaked by now.
But if I do decide in favour of the Macan, and anyone is interested, let me know. I’ve been offered £20k for it.

Is 20k a good price? There's only 3 on AT listed for less than that and they're all of 100k miles. Yours is probably a much higher spec too.

If circumstances with my house build were different I’d probably jump at the opportunity given how well I know it will have been kept etc.
Good luck whatever you choose

When I had my 4 series it was between about £350 and £500 depending on what you wanted to cover, what your excess was and if you wanted roadside assistance. I always went for c £250 excess, full cover for everything and roadside assistance and the last one I paid for the 4 series, about 4 years ago, was £460.

It’s a great car and spectacular value for money if you consider what a new M440i GC costs (and looks like).
They are elegant looking cars that are surprisingly practical, drive well, go like stink, make a glorious noise, yet are cheap to run for the performance on offer (servicing and insurance isn’t excessive and they use surprisingly little petrol on a run), have intuitive ergonomics and this particular one has to date been near faultless (a bush needed replacing on the steering column at some point and that has literally been the only fault).
They should be more popular than they are.

Definitely makes me think that 20k is too low unless you need to sell it pronto. You've previously sold cars through Munich Legends, would they be interested again or are they more focused on M cars? Collecting Cars could be a good shout although again it might be a bit too common for that site.

Sorry, not my sort of car, but if £20k is the going rate, that makes it a bit of a bargain. Low mileage Skoda Yetis of a similar age are going for that sort of money. (Love the interior of your car BTW)

I asked one of my car dealer clients. He reckons book price is c£18,500 and it would be retailed around £23K by the trade. He said normally he would expect you to be able to get £20K/£21K privately especially with the warranty. However he is really only seeing strong interest in cars up to about £12K because most can be bought outright or with a small loan. Car finance companies are quoting 14% apr for finance even where there is good credit history which is what is killing off anything that is much more expensive.

I looked at the new Sportage PHEV on carwow. The best deal was £2300 off , and then underneath ‘Kia is offering a 8.4% APR. All savings include a Kia deposit contribution of £500’

Manufacturer finance rates are generally a good bit lower than the rates the used car dealers can get from the likes of Black Horse and other lenders.

My recollection from trying to sell the M135i privately in 2016 was that despite pricing it super-keenly compared to anything else on AT, nobody rang. Literally no-one. Because at £18k, most people want to finance it.

It's a lovely car and I can't help feeling that £20k is an absolute bargain - I had a quick look at 440s a couple of weeks ago and 2017 cars appeared to be more expensive than 2 years ago when I got the 430! I would've been interested but now isn't quite the right time

It is indeed a lovely car, and would be genuinely of interest to me if the XFR was leggier and I was thinking about a change. It's a very similar colour (paint and leather) to my GTA! Though I'd go mental trying to keep it looking clean. It's a fantastic spec and new PS4's top it all off very nicely.

I would've been interested but now isn't quite the right time The balloon payment in December 2020 (after 4yrs and 30k miles) was only £17.4k and that is precisely what I got offered against a new BMW. So £20k, two years and 20k miles later, didn’t feel terrible. The dealer needs to refurb at least two of the alloys, the front bumper needs paint on one corner due to a deep scuff, and it was saying it needed new pads/discs in 3k miles, so there a bit to be done. But the dealer texted me to say he’d been cleaning it and reckoned it was probably the best condition 6yr/50k mile car he’d ever bought. I don’t suppose he’s ever seen one of Martin’s cars…
