It's a lovely car and I can't help feeling that £20k is an absolute bargain - I had a quick look at 440s a couple of weeks ago and 2017 cars appeared to be more expensive than 2 years ago when I got the 430! I would've been interested but now isn't quite the right time The balloon payment in December 2020 (after 4yrs and 30k miles) was only £17.4k and that is precisely what I got offered against a new BMW. So £20k, two years and 20k miles later, didn’t feel terrible. The dealer needs to refurb at least two of the alloys, the front bumper needs paint on one corner due to a deep scuff, and it was saying it needed new pads/discs in 3k miles, so there a bit to be done. But the dealer texted me to say he’d been cleaning it and reckoned it was probably the best condition 6yr/50k mile car he’d ever bought. I don’t suppose he’s ever seen one of Martin’s cars… That's very nice of you to say so, but I have let my standards drop over the last few months, although it's never easy in winter. John is the man with the highest standards! Although both are in rather good shape after spending a week in the bodyshop.... It's no surprise the value is slightly up vs 2 years ago? I was looking at the Golf on Motorway and they think it's worth £22.5k now (you'd expect a bit more due to the spec) and looking at how that value has tracked, it's only depreciated £1200 in 12 months and is up £2k vs 24 months ago, so pretty much the same as the 440i. I can't say the same about mine, it's down £14k in 12 months / £6k in 24 months, but I can't complain too much as it's worth at least £15k more than I would have expected at this point.

Bigger engined cars and more expensive ones are suffering a bit just now with the price of fuel and also higher interest rates but when interest rates start to fall we should be back in the game. My car is 4 years old in just under 2 months and I have been receiving lots of targeted emails. Even BMW finance contacted me to see if they could finance a replacement. At the moment, the cost of my car has been c£25K over 4 years which, like Martin, is less than I expected.

That's very good for an M5.There were huge discounts on them ,is that why the depreciation is low for that type of car ?

Yes. I got £30K off list price which was the motivating factor to buy a new one.

Didn’t take Jason Barker long at all to sell the 440i…it toddled off to a new home on the south coast yesterday afternoon. Funnily enough only about 15-20 mins from my sister.

^ My Polo re-sold faster ! I traded it in against the T-Cross on Wed 1 Feb after work. The garage advertised it for sale, probably the next day, before they'd taken photos of it, 2 people contacted them almost immediately and the first to see it and test-drive it bought it; they collected it on the Sunday, 5th. Garage didn't get round to taking any photos. They were originally contemplating not reselling it as they thought it may not be wise to have sold the same car twice within a year but as they had almost nothing to do to it (I washed it a few days before trade-in and it didn't need a valet as I'd kept it so clean) they decided to go ahead. I originally thought that one of their own staff must have bought it because the new V5 was issued so quickly, but talking to "my" salesman about how I was getting on with the T-|Cross, he told me what had happened

The sign board didn't even go up for a few more days Walking through M&S in Edinburgh we bumped into a friend of my wife and we mentioned we were thinking of selling our flat in Linlithgow. She agreed to buy it on the spot. No board required.

That was like Jay from The Inbetweeners. “Sold my house before bricks were invented. Shagged the estate agent while the builder discovered fire.”
