So the Queen has died. Not a surprise for her age but didn't see it happening as it did, I think I thought she would be ill for a while but she was up and about to see Boris and Liz earlier this week.
I'm on the fence as to whether I'm a monarchist but I do think she served the country well and with grace throughout and so many people across the world took her to their hearts. Charles will have a lot to live up to.
RIP.

Very sad day, she’s been a constant my entire life and it does feel a very personal loss. RIP.

I'm not a massive Royalist, but I think it is very sad. At least it seemed to happen very quickly.
The very definition of the end of an era.

It is that element of her being a constant that makes it such a shock. She's had her face on all the money I've handled and the stamps I've put on post. She's been an icon of our nation my entire life and is one of the main things one thinks about when thinking about the United Kingdom. I think a lot of people will be a in a state of shock over this and probably just thought she'd go on forever.

Truss killed her after Boris wore her down.
I want to see a boxing match between Charlie and Bill to decide who rules the roost now.

Does seem a little odd that she was well enough to meet Boris and Truss (sounds like a firm of bent lawyers??) a couple of days ago, yet now she's gone and without being admitted to hospital. I hear rumours that she'd not quite been the same since Charles last saw her just as he was testing positive for Covid. RIP Ma'am

I’m a confessed Cavalier so a sad day.
The Queen is dead. She understood her duty under the circumstances of her privileged birth and lived by the rules that were dictated by the same.
Long live the King.

Sorry to hear this news. She was someone who ruled well and set a great example as a head of state, and that’s from a non Brit. RIP.

It’s a momentous event but I don’t find it a sad one personally. In the nicest possible way, it was time.
I salute her for a long and gracious reign, and say long live the King.

It looked inevitable when I saw the rolling BBC news coverage at lunchtime.
As so many have said, she was a constant presence for the whole of our lives. Her sense of duty and service was an example to others and she will go down in history as one of the greatest monarchs the world will ever see.
We raised a glass in her memory this evening and then another glass to 'God save the King'.

Yes so did we. We had a team drinks scheduled for this evening and the news came in while we were in the pub, so we toasted the Queen and then the King.

This to some degree but I think they're in for a period of turmoil with Chic in charge. There's no way he's even 50% as popular as the Queen was so they need to step carefully.

I’ve got a bottle of milk in the fridge that has seen two Prime Ministers and two monarchs. Mad.

I am pleased to see that the King chose a proper classic Phantom for the drive to Buckingham Palace, rather than that monstrous Bentley thing.

As an outsider it doesn't affect me very directly, but she clearly meant a lot to many people, so it's undoubtedly a sad day.
RIP. 70 years is a remarkable reign. Probably won't see the likes of it again.

She did what it says on the job description, I did expect this tbh, especially with the ginger being described as on his way yesterday morning. Minus the Strife.

I was very saddened by the news of the Queen's death, even though she was an old woman in failing health. A long life, well lived.

I thought King Charles did a very human and very dignified job in his first public act as King when he personally greeted and shook hands with probably over one hundred members of the public from around the world outside Buckingham Palace earlier today.
Well done.

My sense of humour maybe, but I've just gone to the Tesco online grocery website, which is headed by a large "sympathy" message for Her Majesty, and the first two items advertised underneath are an 18-pack of lager and a tin of chocolates...... brought a large smile to my face

When I walked back with the fish & chips this evening I noticed the bar on the corner of our road had dimmed lighting and black E:R posters. Next door but one is the estate agent from whom we bought our house. The window is full of very neat adverts for the houses for sale but not today. Every one was covered by a black E:R picture. Nice touches.

As another confirmed Royalist, I'm sad that this day has come. Although everyone knew it would come, the speed at which it came was a shock. I was relieved for her that when her time came, she was there doing the job one minute and then gone soon after. I thought the King's (still feels strange to write that) first TV address tonight hit the spot. He may be a better King than many predict.

Driving home this evening on the North Circular, I couldn’t tell you what suddenly prompted me to turn on the radio, which I very rarely listen to in the car, but I did turn it on just literally in time to hear (Capital FM) Andrew Marr announce that the King was about to speak, and so I heard the whole thing.
Just a coincidence of course, but a little primeval part of the brain gets mildly intrigued by it.

As a lover of our traditional ceremonies, I did enjoy the proclamation yesterday.

That it occurred at a place she felt at home and comfortable in is the bonus for her imho. Far better than a stone's throw from the snapping media.

No matter how we each individually feel about the monarchy or those in it I think even the most critical can broadly respect how the Queen conducted herself and fulfilled her role.
Personally, I can't say I have the same broad respect for Charles or his children but I do hope that the firm isn't diminished and that the players can take their example from the Queen.
