I watched the procession today live on TV. Organised with military precision and a really moving spectacle.
There was something almost hypnotic about the continuous muffled slow march drum beat to keep time and the whole parade in step to that beat.

Even one of the police horses was keeping perfect pace with the drum beat. It was quite some procession and I doubt we shall its like again.

Saw two bits of film on the internet over the past couple of days - US President's motor transport arriving and also the Emperor of Japan. Made me think, I bet the Metropolitan police escort bike riders are having a "good" time right now. Whilst stressful, I'm sure there must be quite a kick in blasting past convoys and stopping traffic at will! Plus they do look cool...

We walked up to the (ironically named) Cromwell Road to see HM off on her final journey to Windsor: We were very much not the only ones who had that idea (in fact we bumped into two separate sets of friends - who says London is not just a large village…) but managed to get close enough to get a decent view as first the living Royals passed, and then the State Hearse.

Something that has actually got me thinking more than a bit. OK, not a died in the wool royalist by any means but, as an ex soldier I did believe in the monarchy being good for the country as a whole.
This properly got to me, and others about. Folk I would not have thought it of. We did lose Jack the 95 year old ex gunnery instructor six days prior but whether that has anything to do with the sense of loss I just cannot fathom.
Charlie our new king has looked completely done in and if he is not careful we shall be on the cusp of another week like this one. Better he takes more care of himself.

Having watched the pre-procession, the funeral, the procession and the departing from Wellington Arch, then the Long Walk procession followed by the St George's Chapel service too, Mrs PG and I both said we felt utterly emotionally drained. As Mike said, this properly got to us.
By the end, the King looked like he definitely needed (and deserved) a day off.

I can see why the Royal Family is having an extra week of mourning. It gives them a chance to escape from the limelight for a few days of much-needed and deserved privacy.

We had it on from waking up to Kirsty Young's final comments, on both TVs to annoy the kids (and make them see at least some of it). We went to Central London on Thursday evening as a family.
Prince of Wales looks pretty regal these days and seems to have that ingrained sense of duty. As W2.1's father remarked on a FaceTime call, we'll be doing it all again before we know it - with the King looking his age this weekend. He's not actually a young man but he and his Queen walked a fair old whack behind the old Queen yesterday so they're not in bad shape plus factor in the emotional check he had to keep I reckon he had a decent lie-in this morning. Hope he has a decent decade of it.

I only watched from about half 10 after coming home from the gym then turned off for Sunday lunch after they transfered the coffin to the Jag. It was moving but there was only so much I wanted to watch as momentous as it was.

I watched until they got to Windsor and two thirds up The Long Walk and that was me done. They should have just transferred her to a helicopter at The Wellington Arch and then watched as she was flown off.

I watched from just after 10am until just before 5pm. Very emotional and quite overwhelming.

I only saw a couple of short bits on my way to/from the bar to order food & drink and then the loo. We had lunch outside where there were no TVs.
Amusingly there was a Chinese tourist walking out of the pub at the same time as me and they stopped to take a photo of the procession on the big TV in the place.
