I went to a house yesterday in the hope of buying a 2003 Focus ST170 Estate. Turned out he had built a raised deck on his corner plot and had 8 cars and 3 motorbikes in there.
I was going to buy the ST but waited till the morning to contact him and someone 300 miles away bought it right unseen. Risky.
Anyway, he had a bit of a thing for Escorts and had an XR3, XR3i cab, Si 3dr x 2, some mk4 5 door stuff and a Mk6 RS2000.
Also had a mk6 RS2000 4x4 in dark Aubergine. Off the road for 10 years and dry stored. Def need brakes, wheel refurb, tyres and a bumper painting, but has the discs and pads, and the right wheels in. No rust that I could find and a good interior. 103000 miles.
Tl;dr, looks like I bought it with a view to fixing, mot ing and making a few quid in fast ford tax. I reckon there is prob £1500 of work between the things mentioned and no doubt more to rear its head…
There were only 350 or so built and prob less than a tenth of that number on the road. I reckon I will be £5500 in.
Not a massively loved car at the time but there seems to be a lot of positive stuff on the internet classic car sites.
#prayforcbeaks as I have persuaded my wife this is a wise move.

An excellent, brave, decision. Worst case you end up with an interesting car in an interesting colour that you love, but cannot easily sell for breakeven or better. It's only money.

A mate of mine had 2 RS2000s in succession - a K plate Mk5 whose engine met a grisly end when the camchain snapped at 6+k and then an N plate Mk6 4x4 that eventually got traded in against a Mk1 RS Focus. I loved the Recaros and the red glow of the instruments in the Mk5, never got a chance to drive his Mk6, but if it was anything like the Escort GTi I had, it was a good steer.
I remember ages ago you had a Mazda 6 MPS, whatever happened to that?

Wife hated it so it lasted about a month before trading in against a brand new Kuga. She has no taste.

Deffo a future Youngtimer classic. If you have the space and time it’s no other problem: you can’t take money with you.

Brave, exciting, mildly worrying all at once. I applaud you. Any photos? Only very bad ones. The proper wheels are in the boot of my car to get powder coated. Also, for pedants, I know the badges are in the wrong place and the 16v badge is missing. I have to decide if it is worth £30 to put right. Probably.

I’m having some sort of crisis. Just bought an ST170 on eBay sight unseen without any spousal approval.
I now have to get a train to Basildon on Sunday and drive it 200 miles back.
The good news is Recaro interior.

Paid for and on its way for some fixing. The wheels are already getting refurbed and re-tyred.

I had a relationship with a lady at work who drove an RS2000 4x4 in that colour many years ago, would have been late 94 iirc and she’d not had it long (bought new). Anyway…..
That should scrub up well and good luck!

She might, she was very attractive when she was 32, but that was a long time ago (can’t believe it’s nearly 30 years!)

Weird to think that the engine that powered the first gen Mono was a direct descendent of the engine in the RS2000, albeit with the exhaust and intake swapped over.

As was entirely predictable it is looking like costing somewhat more than anticipated. So far the discs, pads, master, abs pump, one hub and one caliper have been replaced and the brakes still don’t work. Probably electrical but undiagnosed so far. No abs light and the pump doesn’t prime on ignition. If anyone has any ideas please feel free. Also 3 small areas that need welding, and then the bumper spray and some smart repairs. And fixing the elec mirrors and the central locking. And the airbag light. And the passenger side speakers. And the rear heated screen. Prob the fan too. On the positive side I have fitted nice orange side repeaters and most service items are done. The flow raven recaros are looking pretty good.
