Very nice! Quite a different colour combo and all the better for it... I look forward to seeing it in the flesh. To me, gloss black highlights usually look excellent...

I certainly needed to find a photo of an actual car as the configurator images are a little dull to say the least.

I like that a lot. It reminds me of Rover Nightfire Red although I think it may be a little darker.

A very nice colour. A bit darker than my Benz.

In the flesh, I think you got a solid result, nicely done.

That is lovely. Shame the Alpina has to go, but I get the reasons why.

Aventurine Red? Love that colour - we must be getting old.
And I'm glad the world is catching up with my brown interior trend-setting.
The car itself is not one I can get so excited by. I think the LCI design changes were thoroughly ill-advised. Like a Chinese knock-off of the original, which was a handsome car.

Really nice car BB. Riding on 18's it will feel beautifully smooth and that's a great spec too. Smaller wheels is the way to go now. We've tried bigger and they are a pain with shitty UK roads, so smaller it is! I'm biased now, of course!

Not sure if I have missed a thread, but I am not following the logic.
Are you able to obtain the PHEV in some extremely advantageous way that makes this change a fiscal no brainier ? or is this decision driven purely on the basis of not burning liquid dinosaurs when driving around London ?

Or does BB just fancy a change and a brand new car? The annual fuel savings won’t be as much as the first months depreciation on the new one!

Are you able to obtain the PHEV in some extremely advantageous way that makes this change a fiscal no brainier ? or is this decision driven purely on the basis of not burning liquid dinosaurs when driving around London ? The latter allied to the fact that I can simply afford a new car and therefore want one. Financially I’d be far better off using ubers and hiring a car for the odd long journey but when did sensible come into anything car related? There is also the matter that the Gorilla is owned outright and its sale and the new purchase will leave me more liquid cash as a lump and that is currently the focus based on preparing to not give a shit about going to work. The last time I had a spanking new car was 2001 with a previous wife so this is just a bit of a vanity purchase.

That’s my point, the car ordered is such a divergence from the outgoing car that I assume the motivations are fiscal in nature.

I think having driven round Nice and Monaco but then still being able to drive into the Var countryside without fear of charge loss in a PHEV last summer I could see the point of them based on an assessment of my own driving. I still have two wheels for proper power to weight ratio fun.

We shouldn’t need any reason to get a new car other than we want one!

I’m not querying why buy a new car, just surprised by the move to halve the horsies and cylinder count.
Call it idle curiosity

Call it idle curiosity I think you were just asking the question no one else dared Ahhh, we covered this engine choice a while back. He’s changing his forum name to BigGreen and isn’t allowed to criticise big diesels when he’s got the engine from a small hatchback in a car that isn’t a small hatchback! (I may have made that up....but it should be true!)

I think the colour is fabulous. Spank the Gorilla one last time before the new one arrives and then enjoy the new one.

I really like that Jeff. The colour suits it well. It's just slightly darker than the red of my Ioniq which has made me start to like a darker red on a car. Looks like you've chosen wisely with the options too. They're all things that in many years time should you try to flog it that buyers would look for. In the meantime you get to enjoy them. I'm not so keen on the digital dials that BMW employs on their current cars but having spent a day in the current 3 series I found I paid more attention to the head up display so they didn't bother me too much in the end.
You should easily find that the 40 mile range does most of your trips in and around the city. I suspect my next car will be a PHEV when I choose one next year but that depends on budget and what's on the market. I suspect it'll be my last new car with an engine in it though.

We shouldn’t need any reason to get a new car other than we want one! I'm with you there! It's a rare event in one's life I think, I even found buying the CMax and owning a spanking brand new car enjoyable (though it makes any damage even more annoying...). I'm not sure I'd feel the same about a lease or other type of hire, it's a perceptual thing isn't it? The actual car in the pics looks great to me - I have no major issues with the new BMW grille, I don't think the previous ones were pretty cars, but both they and the new ones are quite imposing.

Is there space in the budget to get something like this to park alongside the new one?

I’ve left space in the budget for an Esprit S2 or S3.
I’ve been told by W2.1 to fuck off with this classic car shit.
It’s a fun battleground.
