Salesman says AUC only requires tyre change if they’re under 3mm so it’s had 1 tyre due to a nail but all others are 4.6. I'd tell him he has lost the sale unless he puts a matching pair on This. I never have any difficulty in being super-picky and walking if they don't play ball. When I bought the M5 which was the last AUC I bought, I had them repaint the front bumper which had already been repainted but not very well, and replace some steering wheel trim where the rubberised coating had worn a bit, and still didn't pay the asking price. AUC should be immaculate - that's the point.

All sorted this morning.
It's a 2017 430d with 24k miles. Mineral grey paint and red seats, door cards and lower dash (it's not as bad as it sounds). 2 new back tyres, alloys refurbed and new brakes all round plus unmarked bodywork.
Trade In for the 320 was £5,800 which is £200 less than the WBAC online price. However that would've dropped by £400 instantly due to all 4 wheels needing done and that's before you take of another £100 for a new grille and more for various other scuffs and scrapes together with the rust so I might've ended up paying them to take it away.
Planning collection for the weekend, weather permitting.

That's a great engine Tim and i'm sure you will enjoy it.

Should've said the agreed price for the 430 was £20k.
FG includes electric, heated seats, Apple Car Play, digital cockpit, and whatever you get with M Sport Plus pack (Harman Kardon, 19 inch alloys, errrr). I think there's a few more things on the list.
John, I was very happy with the performance, I know it's not the 435 but wanted to avoid xDrive. It's got the lovely growl that my old E39 530d (and my brother in law's E39) had. Hopefully we'll have a few years of trouble-free motoring from it.

Sounds good Tim and pleased that the dealer did the right thing. I'd have walked away as well if they hadn't, not the right way to start a new car experience.
Was traction OK? I've driven a 330d estate (2014) and got a surprising amount of TC light, especially when starting off enthusiatically, much more than on the 535d I drove on the same day.

I've written a review in the 'Tested' section. It was a bot of a struggle on a wet, smooth slope but it still went well from a standing start. Conditions weren't in its favour though.

Sounds good. What would that have been new in 2017?

Sounds good. What would that have been new in 2017? Base price for the MSport appears to be £44k and ours has the MSport Plus pack which brings 19" wheels, pimp glass and stereo upgrade. That's probably another £1,500 or so. Not sure how much the reversing camera, LED lights and Apple Car Play add, I suspect the first 2 are part of another option pack (the visibility one?) and Carplay night've been available as a single option. I'm sure Martin is donning his anorak as we speak.....

If it’s got the basic LEDs, they were standard, must have been £1700 ish for the M Sport pack and £500 for the camera and CarPlay (separate options), couple of hundred more if it has self parking as well. So, £46,500 less whatever discount would have been available (15%?). I’d guess just under £40k.

I hope you are enjoying the car Tim.
But buying from the John Clark group.....I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.🙁

You can't be any more disappointed than I am. Unfortunately Grassicks gave us a trade-in price based on knowing the car's condition - Mrs Tim was going through their stock with a salesman while the car was inspected - and Phoenix in Kirkcaldy didn't have anything of interest (plus I have a feeling they're owned by someone else I wouldn't want to buy from).

Yes. I think Phoenix is owned by AC.

I had my suspicions.
The car certainly won't be going back to JC for servicing.

A quick thread resurrection to mention that the V5 for the 430 arrived in the post yesterday. That's 4 months after we bought it. Given that I got the 530d at the same time and had its V5 within about 10 days I think its safe to say the fault doesn't lie with the DVLA. Just another reason why it'll never see the inside of a John Clark workshop. Anyway, I suppose I'd better be a bit more circumspect with my speed now the car is properly traceable

You only live once! I've got a max 2 spaces left for PalmerSport on 27th August!

I had a run up to Aberdeen on Tuesday at a cruise controlled 73mph (apart from Laurencekirk where the limit drops to 50, a fact unnoticed by my brother in law a couple of years ago when he was in our 320!) and the economy over 2,500 miles has improved to 39.9. It's hard not to give it a burst away from every roundabout and junction though and main road overtaking is ludicrously easy.
I get car sick on those sorts of things, even if I'm driving!

I got a recall notice for the 430 last Wednesday - something to do with the possibility of the EGR valve setting itself on fire - so on Thursday I booked the car in to the nearest dealer to get it looked at/fixed. When they gave me a date of 12th July I should've been suspicious, I mean the recall has just been sent out so don't they have to order parts in on the off chance some of the cars actually need the work done?
Anyway Monday (today) it was.
I checked with the person I spoke to that we could drop the car off after hours. No problem, they said. Just park it up and put the keys through the letter box.
So off we went, all the way up to John Clark BMW, Dundee yesterday evening. Not my preferred choice but Mrs Tim insisted as its the nearest.
Pulled up at the dealership we bought the car from less than 6 months ago, having caught EVERY red light through Dundee, only to find it surrounded by that 6 foot high temporary wire fencing. Turns out they've moved and the current showroom is being stripped. Thanks, person on the phone, for not mentioning that. A quick google found the new location to be about a mile away. It's a very impressive new facility, surrounded with those now stainless loops that would stop you stealing a car except tfor the car-sized gap at the main entrance of course.
Anyway, parked in the street and hopped out to put the keys through the letter box.
Aha, there's no fucking letterbox. So after a lap of the place to ensure there really was no letterbox we came home.
That's a couple of hours and a load of fuel wasted taking 2 cars on an unnecessary journey.
I haven't bothered phoning them to tell them the car isn't there and, perhaps alarmingly, they haven't yet phoned to ask where it is. When they do though I'll just tell them it was brought up last night and after what will hopefully be a mild panic for them I'll tell them we then had to bring it home and it's now booked into the far more competent dealership in Perth.

The not telling people they have moved thing is not uncommon. The optician my neighbour went to was suggested for a eye test a while ago so I called them. Booked the appointment and was asked if I knew where they were. I responded that I did and said "Six ways" which got no response. When I got there I was told the company had moved a year previous. I received no call despite them having my number and the neighbour was, despite being a long term client, not informed either.
Not sure if it is laziness or ignorance.

Well, here we are at 5pm and the garage haven't yet phoned to either say a) where is your car, or b) your car is ready for collection (that would be very funny!).
They're a bunch of useless wankers. I'm really tempted to phone up and ask if the car's ready for collection......

I think a complacent staffer or two would properly shit themselves. Perhaps managers too.
