My boss has a round trip of 150 miles a day on mostly highway and typically works at the office 4 days a week. He bought a car for his commute in January and has put almost 20,000 miles on it.
The car? A C7 Corvette. His reasoning is that if he had to drive that much, he should enjoy it.
Given a decent budget that would allow you to have one car for enjoying your commute, what would it be?

I ran my GT4 as a daily for a year to do the commute so get his point although my commute is a grand total of 12 miles each way so not really comparable.
Given I mostly use back roads and cut throughs the best car would be something like a Merc A45, compact, quick and and has all the toys.

If I was still working (and so pulling in a good whack) and commuting - to the office or the airport - I think I'd be running one of two cars today. Either an i-Pace (if my head had won) or an F-Pace SVR (if my heart had won).

Jaguar XF 3.0D S wagon.
60 mile round trip every day, tiny amount of town stuff then A roads all the way.

It depends on the type of commute. If it was mainly motorway and my budget was greater then a current Bentley Continental, but otherwise a lightly used Panamera Turbo would do me nicely.

I worked at home before COVID so daily it's not really an issue. If I am driving for work it's usually to the train station so something crap that the I don't mind getting damaged would make sense.

There is no car I would especially want to commute across London to my office in.

At the moment, the usual commute is from kitchen to dining room, for working from home. However with the current occasional commute to place of work being about 20 miles, mainly M3 and then 1 junction of the M25, a Fiesta ecoboost suits it quite well..... maybe automatic transmission would be a suitable upgrade due to the regular congestion..... the Bentley Continental that Martin suggests is in my dreams.....

For my commute, which these days is short, something like a Taycan would suit me very well. However having driven my daughter's Mini quite a bit recently and finding myself healing and toeing without realising it, I wouldn't mind a Cooper S or JCW for some fun. For anyone that knows my number plate, the JCW would be very fitting!

For the London commute, perhaps a Fizzy is more appropriate.

Ive only experienced the middle spec (optional) rear seats in the ones I’ve been in the back of, but they aren’t comfortable enough, much less so than the ones in the 7 and I’m told the RR Exec Class rear seats are better still but I’ve not travelled in the back yet.

Oh i Don't know, after spending a full day on your feet at somewhere like Geneva motorshow or Goodwood, finding a Maybach S-Class on display that you can sit in the back of for 15minutes with the massage seats going at full tilt is pure heaven.

A Mercedes E350 estate AMG Night Edition Premium Plus with Airmatic suspension would be my perfect daily driver.

If I had to commute south of my house it would be a Porsche 911 Carrera 991 with standard wheels, cloth seats and PDK.
For north, west or east it would be a hybrid with about 30mile electric range.
I’ve rarely commuted in a car since the ‘90s.

Not sure what the model or make would be but it would definitely have heated and cooled seats. I’d love cooled seats over here as the temperature is regularly in the high 30’s and low 40’s. For my current commute, I’d actually stick with the X5 and get those seats included.

Working from home now means it doesn't really matter, but in any case my commute (back when I needed to be in office) was only about a 10 minute drive anyway.
I always fancied something like a Golf GTI. Fun enough when you want it but as regular as muck when all you wanna do is get there.

I've always said that if I was able to have a chauffeured car, I'd want it to be a Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 with perhaps some subtle comfort upgrades and modernisations to the rear passenger compartment. So much more stylish than most other alternatives. And not quite as dictatorial as a 600 SWB.

I could suggest a skateboard for my commute but, I'd break my flippin' neck on one of those.

The M3 has almost always done a decent job as my commuting car. Comfortable and relaxing when you want, effortless fast progress when you want, and serious pace when you want. Apart from when it snows. Then it's fairly useless unless on winter tyres I would imagine.

I'd quite happily have another 370Z as my commuter car. If I'm lucky my route can be fairly light on traffic and I almost always got a clear run for a blast on the DC before the Tay Bridge - it'd be worth it for that alone. Either that or a CL500/600

My commute is 42 miles down the A19 in all weathers, through variable traffic. Ideally, I'd like a Tesla Model S with autopilot.

Something quicker and firmer than I strictly need. Something immersive yet practical and useable in all weathers.

My wife came in last night having taken my daughter out to drive to Ikea. My daughter wasn't keen on the busier traffic on the way home so my wife drove the Mini back and announced that she hasn't enjoyed driving as much for years. Given that she is Mrs "I don't do manuals" I think that is a massive compliment to the Mini that it won her over despite being a manual.
The Mini is definitely getting under both our skins.
