All the Directors get a weekly valet, which is a proper one inc polish (and fuel fill up) and they do a very good job. Lots of warm, moist chamois then. My dad was big into his Jags while he was working. As company cars from BP he had a blue 340, a green 2.8 XJ6 S1, a red XJ6 S1, a white XJ6 S2, a brown XJ6 S2 (the first one I got to drive), a silver XJ12 S3, a silver XJ6 S3 and finally he retired with a blue XJ6 S3. Then he had a rush of blood to the head and bought a Rover 827, before reverting to his final X Type.

My dad had an XJ40 - he bought a six month old ex Jag management car in 1994. A pillar box red 3.2 auto with blue half leather interior.

Red with blue leather?
I'd like to see you suggest that to JLR for your next company car!

It was lovely - Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes used to offer beautiful blue interiors in the 80s and 90s (when I say blue, think dark blue/navy blue). The contrast with the walnut and the chrome was fantastic.

I have quite clearly been in the wrong business for the past 40+ years

The contrast with the walnut and the chrome was fantastic. Don't get me wrong - my first "grown-up" car which I bought when I qualified as a lawyer was a 2001 Audi A3 1.8T quattro, which was a dark metallic blue ("Ming Blue") with a matching navy blue pinstripe (think it was called Jacquard) cloth interior with (very rare) burr wood dash inserts. The majority of the interior plastics were a very dark blue too and it all looked very smart. Just not necessarily sure about it with red paintwork.

Everyone specs their cars fur the next buyer, probably due to the three year lease cycle more than anything. That's why there are such a safe range of colour options - so the PCP companies don't let you get it wrong.

I've never given much thought about how the outside relates to the inside. Given the choice, red is way down the list of exterior colours, but I wouldn't let the outside dictate the inside.
The only interior combination I don't like is excessively light colouration in impractical areas. I can live with ivory on the seats and lower door casings as long as the dash, upper doors and carpet are black.

Although the Audi A6 interior colour swatch is 2 colours: misery or pedophile.

If I'm ordering a new car, the whole point is for it be exactly what I want (within the strictures of what's actually on offer).

Indeed - that's why I haven't had an Audi for ages and also why my father orders all his Audis in Exclusive trim - costs a fair bit more but he gets the paint shade and leather colour he wants. I mean ok my second Audi (an S3) had a black leather interior with piano black trim, but then again not only did I buy it second-hand, it was also painted Nogaro Blue, so there was more than enough bright colour going on outside to suffice...

There are quite a few interior options on the FFRR and the tan interior is probably the nicest one, but they are unbelievably / surprisingly rare.

The Audi colour choices get a bit better in the A8/S8, but lower down the range it does get pretty limited.

I wonder if some buyers and fleet managers are overly worried about specifying bland and inoffensive colour schemes. My Benz is hardly mainstream, but every one I have seen advertised in the same combo has sold instantly. I can see why,- it elevates the car from 'airport taxi' to something far more individual.

This. Private buyers aren't interested in looking like a private hire billion-miler

Interior replacement for the 1 series coupe. I had completely forgotten about that.
