I like this, but suspect it will be close to £100k and they're calling it the second 'Collectors Edition'...... 600hp, 4WD, big arches, proper aero, lots of bespoke parts. Project 8

I reckon they look better in the flesh than in pictures. My recent 10 year old impersonation took in Aston, Bentley and Jaguar showrooms. Is that beast XE or XF based?

XE based, apparently. (I had to look that up) Left hand drive only and £100k...

I like the idea. Lose the big wing and I think it'll be brilliant.

Like one of the commentors below the article on Autocar, I'm sort of confused what SVO are trying to do.
On the one hand they are a small outfit that bangs out one offs, collectors cars and such like and that's fine. But that is at odds with the fact that there is a production RRS SVR and I think a full fat RR Autobiography SVO, plus an F-Type SVR and we were told that they would be the "uber-halo" arm of JLR. And SVO seem to be getting preference over normal R models - which don't seem to have any urgency to get into production that I think they should. By all means do an XE-SVR if Jag want to, but don't lose sight of the broader market.
So whilst this XE collectors car is undoubtedly going to be excellent (apart from that naff spoiler that has no right to be on a Jag), it is not really furthering Jag XE sales in my view. Far better to spend the money on a proper M3 / C63 challenger - an XER. And what about an XFR? The "R" is for me a great compromise between comfort and speed. What fast Jags are really all about.

'R' Jags should be the fast saloon that is better than equivalent M or AMG for ninetynine percent of the time, then let ze Germans compromise the rest of their cars for the one percent that give the muttering rotters their erections.

Agree with all that.
I think the latest EVO made the point that for the BMW 4 Series range the highest seller is the 420d, the next is the M4. There's a clear template for Jag to follow.

Why? What's the point? As a homologation special for a racing series I can see merit but otherwise a 4 door 2 seat saloon car is pretty pointless. At £149K there is so much more I would rather have.

+1
They have called it a 'Collectors Edition', which is probably the answer, but I can't see it's value increasing.

I hope it works for whatever reason JLR have done this but I don't get it. All seems a bit "here's what you could have won" in that it seems they're not going to do anything interesting with the regular car.

I think they're just following BMWs example of the M4 GTS - a slightly more powerful, slightly better M4 but costing 6 figures. Factor in the power increase over the BMW and you get to £149k

But BMW sorted the cars you can actually buy first and as Michael has said, there's no sign of an interesting XE/XF yet.

Ha ha ha ha ha.
Sorry that was the sound of the Alpina factory staff looking at this thread over their schnitzels at lunch.
The new B5 is now a bargain compared to that heap.

Obviously for those who can't get on the list for a new GT3 or M4 GTS
Quite frankly it looks ridiculous, just what are they smoking down at JLR.

I think Jags are often at least as appealing as their opposition, but this is ghastly.

As a Jag lover and owner, this annoys me.
592hp supercharged V8 in an XE - sure, why not. But all the other tasteless and tacky wank that has come with that - no thanks. Please Jaguar (and Land Rover) employ less 18 year old people who read Max Power and just work on the mainstream stuff. I really hope we get back to less is more one day.
But I'm sure they'll sell out of this.
In other more positive news, I see that Jag have put the 296bhp 4 pot (that was recently launched in the F Type) into the XE, XF and F Pace. All with AWD only, but that's a whole lot more interesting than this version.

According to Harry on Twitter, you can specify it with either two or four seats, apart from in the USA where it gets four only. I don't mind it - price is silly though.

Actually didn't Jag do this with the XF-R, release an expensive top spec one with a comedy rear wing (it was in Smurf Blue in the mags I think?) before they released a more normal one?

They did it the other way round. Released an XFR and then did the bonkers XFR-S later on. Actually, with the four seat interior that looks rather good inside, and the F Type gear shifter really suits the XE interior. Now get all that and the V8 in a "normal" XE and we're talking..... free image storage sites

Looks good until you see the crappy XE interior in a £150k car.

Lose the wing and keep the 4 seats and it might just be acceptable. At £75k.

If it had a BMW or Porsche badge, orange wheels, loops made of material to close the door and that rollcage it would be a surefire hit.
In fact compared with the M4 GTS or any of the Black Series AMG Mercs it looks restrained and subdued.

The difference in Porsche land is that they charged less than 70k for a GT4 where even the cheapest car is 40k. 150k for one of these is madness when the boggo car is 30k. BMW is equally barking with their run on M4's at mad money but I guess there's at least some sort of brand there.
I never understand these things that start from the compromised position of an executive saloon or GT car like a Bentley as they'd never be as good as something that starts off as a performance car. If you want a stripped out racer start with something like a 911/McLaren/Ferrari

150k. Those people that can buy it, will buy it. It looks bonkers and it sounds evil but there seems to be an ever increasing amount of people who have the means to buy incredibly expensive cars. And they will snap these up.

I think it looks and sounds incredible.
The amount of bespoke parts and depth of engineering is hugely impressive - this is the complete opposite of lick 'n' stick marketing tartery.

Is the whine the gearbox or the supercharger? The V8 part of the soundtrack is great, the whine less so.

That is awesome. The whine is definitely supercharger.
