Certainly sounds pretty epic.

It makes more sense that this is shouty than it does in other cars in the range. but I really don't like the supercharger whine.

Spoke in depth about the car with Harry Metcalf today. His enthusiasm for the project certainly changed my opinion. It looks rather good too.

He works for Jaguar SVO.
Ive read more about it and it does sound like they've done a really thorough job and it should be a cracking car, but it's still too much money, I don't like the looks and I think their engineering team would have been better spending their time on an XE/XF R.
However and Interestingly, Harry M described it as like putting the new M5 drivetrain into a 3 series. I wonder if that means they've used it as a development project for an XF R?

That's an interesting idea. I've no doubt it'll be brilliant but it's so ridiculously exclusive to make it pointless, it's really little more than a concept car . It's like they're saying, "look at this amazing car we've produced for our wealthiest and most wonderful customers - and for everyone else here's the new E-Pace".

I did ask him if this was the development of something a little more everyday like a 500hp XE but he said in no uncertain terms that there will be no watered down version. Dan went on to say they said the same about the Project 7, then we eventually got the F-type SVO.

I'm glad it's been made and I can see an leftfield appeal to those rich and vain enough to buy one. Lose the decals, give me it in dark grey, dark blue and then imagine the noise of that as you give it the beans. Wonderful. Just a pity the interior dash is boggo XE, but well done chaps, glad to see there is some lunacy left

Harry Metcalfs take on it. The amount of bespoke work put into it certainly puts the price tag into perspective: link

I don't dislike this car, but I can't see the point of it being a stand-alone model like this. It makes more sense the BMW way, to launch a standard XE-R first with 500-530bhp, then launch the nuts halo version next. The XE is well reviewed, the XFR was reviewed as being on a level with the M5 originally (and a better daily driver). Surely an XE-R would sell well if it was slightly softer than an M3/M4 but had that nuts V8, when the former gets a lot of criticism for the sound of the 3 litre 6, and when only AMG have a V8. Then launch the SVO version afterwards, to maintain interest.
On a slightly frustrating personal level, Jaguar have recently updated the V6S version of the XE to put clear air between it and the 340i, giving it 375bhp, and more engine noise. That's about right for me - if it was this spec from new, I'd be eagerly awaiting them becoming 3 years old on the SH market in a little while... As it is, it will still be well up the list when I change, which will be from next summer onwards, if it is true that I can't keep my Jaguar warranty beyond 100k miles...
