Every time I think "oh I might like a personal plate" I just come and read this thread and the urge soon leaves me.... or perhaps the secret is to test it here whether it passes the git test or not before purchase? No, the secret is to buy one that you like and not care what anyone else thinks. Completely agree.

Of the people who've ever asked about mine (that I can remember!) only one 'got it' and didn't like it. A lot of people don't seem to even notice, especially now with '20' plates out - unless it's to say there's a letter missing from the front of the registration .. .. ..

No, the secret is to buy one that you like and not care what anyone else thinks. This! I often watch the DVLA auctions and some of the numbers that come up which have X or Y in the letters can be relatively cheap and yet very recognisable e.g 80 YDY or YFZ 9 are up currently for bids over £300 and £500 respectively. They will go for a good bit more but could easily be had for under £1,000 if there is little interest - you just need to pick a few numbers and then watch the auction proceed but be prepared to move on to the next number when the price gets too high.

M4RTN on a 2004 base spec Mini.
I'm sure the plate is worth many times as much as the car.

It belonged to an elderly lady and I suspect those who inherited it have flogged it on to the highest bidder given it's now appears to be in a Range Rover SV Dynamic.

There's a dick around these parts that has the plate RR10 ACE in a barely legible font. Cunt never indicates either. Saw this fella again today in a different but still black car. TT10 ACE in the same shitty font. It was a soft top with the roof down and you could plainly see that he is the exact knucklehead type that would drive a black RR Sport. Didn't fucking indicate in the TT either!

There was an X3 behind me last night with the number 29 MPH. I truly hope that is not the way he drives.

On my way home from work late this afternoon:
GYP5Y on a black RR Culinor or whatever the huge SUV is called
and
A B19 RAT on a 3-series...... except I can't remember what the first letter actually was, but it was definitely followed by BI9 RAT

You’ve genuinely never heard of Tyson Fury? I don’t understand how that can be possible, even if you don’t follow sport.

The name vaguely rang a bell, but only vaguely. I don't watch TV and am not into sport. No idea who many people are whose names crop up in the news regularly. I have no interest in "reality" lives or celebrities.

Spotted today, a Defender 130 double cab pickup, with a canopy on the back. The registration was TD55 HED, spaced on a square plate on the back to read TD5 5HED
