Stick a Ford badge on it - it already has the grille - and I wouldn't have a problems with it, but an Aston? I suppose they look and see everyone else doing (even RR) it so they might as well have a piece of the cake too.

I agree, you can't blame them for trying to get a slice of the action; it's not like their other products are flying out the showroom. Maybe Lagonda would have suited it more?

Squint and it is any other number of big, rounded pretend off roaders.

Makes complete sense for them to make an SUV, but that’s disappointing. Who thought an all beige interior is a good idea for the launch pictures....it’s awful,

I think you're all being harsh on it, stick a Porsche badge and grille on and it could be the next Cayenne and nobody's criticising that (apart from the usual moans about it being an SUV in the first place). I'd rather have the Aston than any of its German, or German underpinned, competitors.

It's ok. This is a Kuga - it's not that similar...I find all that "Charlotte" target buyer guff more awkwardly excruciating.

You know what I mean - German underpinned = brand owned by one of the German companies but with a non-German identity, e.g. Bentley, Lamborghini.

Charlotte Church I assume. Another Welsh export.

To be fair, my niece Charlotte has just started driving and she'd love that.

I was wondering why the first gazillion photos all showed it from the front. Then I eventually reached the rear and side shots and realised why...

I think it's not all that bad actually. I mean, if they have to have an SUV, that's not a bad way to go. I'll have this over a Bentayga, at least.

That's the best looking of the current Astons. Wow, that's hardly a thing that one should be able to say.
They've taken the best bit of the DB9 - the grille shape; the best bit of the Vantage - the back; kept the sides clean like a previous gen DB9; then jacked it all up a bit. And put a round steering wheel in to cap it all off. I'm hoping the interior is available in more shades and variations than "everything brown".

I do think it's better than the rest, certainly the Rolls Royce. It's just a shame it isn't a bit more bespoke looking but I suppose they're being realistic and not looking to scare the market too much. On the plus side it'll surely sell very well in the target markets - which are likely outside Europe.

I think it looks great and given most previous Astons have been trucks, this is hardly a departure for them.

From the FT article on the launch of the DBX:
"...the group designed the new vehicle with female buyers specifically in mind. This included building a profile of a typical buyer. A Californian business owner and mother in her early 40s called "Charlotte", whose computer-generated headshot is hung around its design offices".
That's hilarious. There's no way that real-life Californian Charlottes drive anything at this point that isn't at least a hybrid and preferably electric.

I was there in October and there are plenty of ‘Charlottes’ still driving big SUVs.

I thought Charlotte was in South Carolina. They definitely like a V8 truck there.

Can’t remember the last time I first saw a new car on the front cover of a magazine rather than online. Today was the day. It looks reasonable enough, for an SUV. Way better than the trucks from Bentley or Rolls-Royce.

Having watched some vids I revise my above statement to it looking better in moving pictures than static ones. The Audi is cheaper and faster, though.

Apart from them both being of a similar colour scheme I'm not really seeing them as that similar. If the Ford was lowered it'd have an almost Alfa Sud profile which is odd as the front in that shot reminds me of the Stelvio.

The use of panel colour does a lot to enhance the impression of a sleeker beast, not my cup of red bush but I hope they sell like hot cakes. They need it to.

It's a clever bit of design because from the front 3/4 and rear 3/4 shots it looks compact and small, like it might be Macan-sized.
Only side-on do you realise that it's much bigger/longer.
