What effect will that difference have on the accuracy of the speedo?

Purely in the interests of science, I can report that giving the car a ham-footed bootfull half way around a small roundabout is definitely enough to cause the rear to step out. But this is a long way from my preferred cornering style, and the electronics sorted it in conjunction with a proverbial dab of oppo. I am now wondering what effect the slow puncture I was unwittingly developing at this point might have had - offside rear.

Already done! £20 at the local (and always excellent) ATS.

Bonus. If you have to replace tyres are you safe doing them one axle at a time?

Those wheels look very good value but from an insurance point of view I agree that the tyres should comply with the manufacturers recommendations. Is the offset OK for your car? If I were happy to do the wrong size tyre thing it'd be OK because they're only 8J rims. This also probably means that the required tyre size might not fit on them, so that means I'm out.

I think so - I reckon a small amount of wear on one side is ok, but mine will be beyond that so it would have been two tyres. Funnily enough, the local indy fixed a slow puncture on the nearside rear in August - I had wondered if it was the same tyre, but no.

Interesting side by side comparisons in different conditions at difference temperatures. Surprised at how much worse the summer tyres were in the wet and good to see that going for CrossClimate rather than full winters was the right decisions for the Golf. YouTube link

As I presume he's not testing everything, would it be more accurate to say 'those' summer tyres? I'm banging on about this a bit, basically because my tyres are very little different wet or dry.

Of course, but they are one of the better rated summer tyres and it’s Continental vs Continental so a fair comparison imo. There’s a difference between an emergency stop and ‘normal’ road driving, hopefully something nine of us have to do whatever tyres are fitted. The most interesting comparison is all season vs winter.

I didn't get that far, feeling that 12 minutes of my life was better-spent! Haven't had Contis on the car for a long time, but the ones I did were poor in the wet.

I even wrote to BMW to tell them that PS4's should be the standard fit tyre on M cars in the UK instead of the PZeros which I have absolutely no doubt have resulted in plenty of accidents. I can't get cross climates in my wheel size which is why the winter tyre is the only option.

I think it is that time of year again. It was damp and 8 degrees this morning and my sideways departure from some traffic lights as I dispatched the previous tailgating Transit tells me that the PZeros are now operating outside their comfort zone. Unfortunately it is going to chuck it down all weekend so I might get damp unless I embark on a bit of a garage tidy beforehand. (I have two built up platforms for cutting the hedge in the garage but the Council have announced that due to a shortage of resources they are not collecting garden bins again till March - nice to be given notice! Looks like I will have to dismantle them again and have a messy hedge all winter)

I managed to get 3 balls properly trimmed but the bins are totally stuffed so the other 3 will just need to wait until Spring when I can use my topiary skills to full effect!

The bin collection has been sketchy for the past 2 months and I have had to contact them 3 times when bins weren't collected (not just ours but most of the estate). They eventually came and collected the missed bins but the irritating bit is that I had my hedge cutting planned so that I would have sufficient collections up to the end of November to be able to do all I needed to do before winter. The neighbour across the road is the same but when he found out about the bins he just paid a contractor to come in and cut his hedge and take away the cuttings - it cost him £250. I'd like to know what the Council have done with the £3K per house Council Tax on the more than 600 new houses they have allowed to be built over the past couple of years.

I had loads of cardboard to get rid of so booked a slot at the dump. Wouldn't be so easy with hedge trimmings though.

Don't knock the employment of one armed lesbians - it's a 50% saving on safety gloves.

So do I, left over from when I had an M5. They are lurking unused somewhere up in the attic as I bought proper winter wheels for the M135i and for the 440i. Talking of the 440i, it is due its second service and an MoT in December (assuming we are still allowed to get cars serviced come December) and so I will get the winters put back on then. Need to call and book.
