The forecast says we might get a light covering of snow overnight here in London, but I'll be extremely surprised if we do. It has the capacity to just be filthy and wet in London even at unfeasibly cold temperatures.

Monday is supposed to be reasonable for a road trip. Crossing everything.

The ATs on the Defender are winter rated - not just M&S, they have the mountain snowflake too. They are excellent in snow. Greasy roads, not so much, but it is 2 tonnes of Defender. That’s the exact issue I’ve got with crossclimates on my van. The amount of wheel spin and traction control light flashing on greasy roads is shocking Had the crossclimates put on the Golf on Wednesday and went out in it yesterday when it was damp and 3c. No traction or any other issues, but they are still pretty close to new in terms of tread depth.

New crossclimates are coming out early next year too .

In the snow yesterday morning (more like heavy slush), I left a nuisance Fiesta ST for dead from a set of lights with not even a hint of wheelspin. They do feel a bit squirmy over about 9 degrees but under that, I am blown away with their capabilities. They are Michelin Pilot Alpin 5's.

Not as crisp on a dry road as the summer tyres due to movement in the tread blocks but the ride is slightly softer and quieter. I suspect a lightly loaded commercial vehicle won't be great on any tyres. It might even be better loaded to it's limit. I highly rate Crossclimates. We have them on both cars. They stay on the Captur all year.

Still no issues after running them for a couple of weeks, it does feel a bit more 'squidgy' if you push on a bit exiting a roundabout, but less so than a full winter would.

Winter tyres doing their job well this morning.

Still finding the Crossclimates great but sadly we have still not had any snow to test them yet.
A work car I have been driving all week, a DisAstra, is on Goodyear Efficient Grip Somethingorother, which have lots of tread. They are just awful in cold weather. They are so efficient with grip that they give very little of it, easily overwhelmed by 130 horses.

It's a winter wonderland here this morning with heavy snow lying on the roads so I am very grateful for my winter tyres. However they don't solve problems like the girl in the VW Up who came alongside me when I was stopped at the lights this morning, hit her brakes and slid a full car's length (not far I know) beyond the white line with a look of shock on her face. No shit Shirley, snow is slippy!

^ You were comparatively lucky that she slid in a straight line and not sideways into you.
I recall in the snow a good few years ago driving on a main road near my parents' house and seeing a Land Rover 90 in a side road approaching the main road, locking his wheels and sliding as his side road was on a slight downward slope, until he launched himself into the main road. Fortunately I guessed what was coming and had slowed to avoid him, but I expect the look on his face was similar to what you saw this morning - total surprise that a 4x4 would fail to brake on slippery snow !

Yep, 4x4 gives you more traction, but grip levels are the same as anything else, tyre dependent. Not much stops our coal merchant.

I'm bloody jealous of that shot Mark, looks lovely up there. Down here its just constant drizzle. No doubt as soon as we get out of lockdown it'll then decide to drop a ton of snow on top of us.

We've got snow but the temps gone up a bit meaning the falling snow has turned to drizzle. That shot of the coal wagon reminds me of my mum going to get her purse and telling me to watch the coalman doesn't put his foot on the scales when he's weighing out our bags.

No snow here. I though coal deliveries to home stopped back in the 70s!

Had to go for hay this morning. Towing a trailer in it was interesting. The roads have been ploughed and salted, but its coming down too fast and there isn't enough traffic to work it to slush. Had one hairy moment - coming down a steep hill and there was a tree down a cross my half of the road. Obviously wasn't going to hot the tree and brakes would have resulted in disaster so swerved around it. The loaded trailer didn't like that much and started to push the Land Rover the wrong way. Luckily I managed to pull and steer my way out of it. The coal is for the multifuel boiler in living room. As well as heating the room and adding ambience, it also heats the thermal store and save me a fortune in oil.

We’re struggling with some deliveries in the Yorkshire area this morning, but it’s due to delays on the roads rather than not being able to get to the stores. All this essential journeys being made by people how either can’t drive to the conditions or don’t have the appropriate vehicle/tyres....
It does look lovely, even more so from behind a window in the warm I’m sure!

It's tough oop North....
All we're having here in the Midlands is drizzle. It was also incredibly mild yesterday, but much colder today.

The view is better without an old Land Rover in the way! I'd like a bit of snow, but preferably on a day I don't have to go anywhere, just so I can test out the snow mode on the RR.
It won't give me a view like that, although the view from the back of my house is the top of houses and some small hills / countryside beyond so not massively different from picture 2.

We had about 2 inches of snow but by 8:30 it was already drizzling rain and it's been like that all morning.

We've had nothing but rain all day yesterday and today, roads are starting to disappear under full-width puddles.
As to outside toilets - we have that at work, but not at home thank goodness ! If I'm at work, we don't have running water in the building in which my desk is located so any call of nature, or tea or coffee (or even to wash your hands if you are working with dirty/oily vehicle bits) involves a trip outside to one of the other buildings on site. Nice in summer but not so in minus something conditions or when it's raining/snowing !

Here in London it's obviously just raining but I've had several videocons with colleagues from our Leeds office this morning, and they all had very Narnian scenes visible outside their study windows, with snow falling heavily and settling.
On one call, my colleague's husband interrupted her to say that they had a problem because he needed to go and pick up their child but couldn't get the car (a 4x4 it transpired) out of the drive.

Just had this sent to me, I assume it was on full winters rather than the Scorpion Verde AS. Apparently it was moving forward and pulling the bus, it wasn't broken!

I had to drive to Liverpool today (dog has broken the other cruciate ) and the standard of driving in the snow was pretty shocking. Just past Leeds on the M62 there was a truck that, having realised he wouldn't make it up the slip road, decided to try to turn it around on the slip road resulting in a jack-knifed truck and a blocked motorway exit. The outside lane was inaccessible for most of the journey, although I did use it between junction 25 and 24 to clear a few miles of stationary traffic. Snow mode seems to dampen the throttle most noticeably, whatever the traction control was doing worked as it felt fine in it.
