I took some sheep into a breeding ewe same at Shrewsbury Market this morning. While there and parked up, a helpful lorry driver (i.e some stupid bastard) in a 16 tonne cattle wagon managed to rip the front bumper off the Shogun. I managed to bodge it up to get home. Luckily there were some cable grippers in the car so I was able to attach the bumper enough to drive home, but it can't safely be used as they can easily break free and the bumper hit the ground. Closer inspection at home shows that they've done more damage than I originally thought. The headlight no longer lines up with the grille and wing, so the panel it is mounted on has clearly being moved. The metal panel that the bumper fixes to is also nicely bent. So I expect that's quite a lot of parts and straightening needed. Both us and the lorry driver are insured with NFU Mutual, so hopefully the claim should be easy. It is clearly a no fault claim. I've asked for a like for like loan car as I can't really tow a livestock trailer with a small hatchback and am waiting to hear back. I hope the claim is not so much that the NFU say it is uneconomic to repair - a 10 year old Shogun has a book value of £4-5k. The immediate aftermath - And after I bodged it to get home -

Did the lorry driver still have L plates on? What an idiot. It's not as if it's an artic so reversing should be fairly straightforward (or straight back!)

Ouch indeed.
"Breeding ewe" sounds a little like a polite euphemism for what you really called him at the time!

He was going forward and turned left too soon. There is an unofficial one way system at the market and like 99.9% of vehicles he should have turned right but he was just trying to queue jump the exit. Idiot indeed. I half wonder if he was on the telephone.

You spent a fair bit on it recently didn't you, so hopefully not written off +1, bad luck and hopefully you (a) get a decent loan vehicle, and (b) get it fixed without too much more hassle. Will you have to get comparative quotes or do your insurers have an arrangement with one bodyshop? Fingers crossed for you

From what I've seen of truckies lately, there seems to be no middle ground in ability; they're either very good, safe and considerate to other road users or complete cunts with little spatial awareness and no consideration for anyone else.
I don't think there's any need to guess which category he falls into!! Hope it's a simple resolution for you Peter.

You've got a better memory than I have! You can probably tell me what make of car it was and then I might be able to remember. ;-) I will relent and certainly vacuum the inside of the hire car - a bag of horse shavings with a split put some of its contents in the boot and having used it to go to the tip this week, the interior is full of detritus from a shed roof.

She was going to a funeral the next morning and had not had time to wash her car - it was a blue Macan - and so I washed it for her while Mrs PG and her were out for the day somewhere.

At lunchtime I saw a bronze Shogun with no grille, a black bumper and some filler on the front right corner presumably heading from the local Mtisi garage to a bodyshop. I imagine its exactly the same work that will be getting done to PG's.

We got the Shogun back repaired. They've made a good job as the photo shows. I'm amazed that it was not written off. As we are VAT registered and it is a commercial vehicle, we have to pay the VAT and then recover it on our VAT return. The VAT was £869, so that means the repair was £5,200 inc VAT. Thank you NFU!
The new driver's side headlight shows what a scratchy off clear mess the passenger one is - so that will need a good polish to try and make them match again.
