That looks a good job and i am sure it is worth much more to you back on the road instead of a cheque for a write off. Yes it is worth far more to us than a cheque would have been. But then you buy them back at about 0.003% of the payout you got. 5200 quid? How. The. Fuck?

Look like a good job, which is the most important thing. The cost does seem a bit high,

Looks very good indeed. The headlight polishing kits you can get are quite effective I believe, and not outrageously priced.

£5200 will be because the insurance co will insist on genuine parts being used, and I reckon that they won't be cheap. Add in "specialist" bodyshop labour rates and what appears to be customary exorbitant charges for paints and other consumables, and I can quite easily see where the total comes from.
I have the benefit of hindsight with younger daughter's small incident in her Fiesta, which the insurers repairers priced at £2700, meaning that they wanted to write it off, against the just-over £700 she paid privately to have it fixed using pattern parts

The proper kits are pretty good - there are 4 grades of sandpaper to use and a buffing sponge that fits on a drill. I helped my B-i-L do the ones on his 2003 5 series and they came up almost like new.

Sara did mention a strange aftertaste when using hers on occasion but I decided not to tell her. She hated the idea of the tea tray and bungee cord stair lift so I avoided the whole issue.

Armour All wipes get surprisingly good reviews (Autoexpress Best Buy), low effort vs most kits as it’s a wipe with a strong cleaning chemical followed by another wipe with a lacquer seal. Only £10 from Halfords or just under that from Amazon.

I've cleaned plastic watch faces with Duraglit silver polish in the past so I might give that a go and see what effect it has.

I suspect it's NFU saying 'ouch' this time. Their customers (and customers of all insurance companies) more like.
