Not really worth a new thread, although maybe some common sense does deserve that?! From BBC News:
Speed limits past motorway roadworks will be increased to cut journey times and ease drivers' frustrations, Highways England has announced. The typical 50mph restriction where work is being carried out will rise to 60mph. The government-owned company responsible for motorways and major A roads in England made the decision after carrying out trials which showed the safety of motorists and road workers can be maintained despite the 10mph increase. It found that more drivers stay within the limit when it is 60mph. Average time savings ranged from 8% to 14% at the eight sites tested.

I saw that too this morning. It does seem some common sense may have finally been applied. I think the biggest safety advantage is that you will be able to overtake lorries and avoid having them cruise along 1 inch off your rear bumper.

They’re going to reduce the speed on motorways down from 70 to 60mph anyway.

Even worse when they start to drift to the right and the narrower right hand lane starts to feel very tight indeed.

I had the joy of watching an RS3 whod been winding his way through other cars in the roadworks on the M6 dive into the contraflow lane and get stuck behind an old boy in a Jazz sticking rigidly to the 50 mark on his speedometer. The contraflow went on for another 8 miles after that!

I drove along about 3 miles of Motorway on the M90 and it had a ludicrous speed limit of 10mph. The guy in front of me did about 20mph and the attitude of the vans and lorries behind suggested you may get pushed along if you didn't speed up. What numpty thought 10mph was appropriate?

A stretch of the A444 dual carriageway between Nuneaton and Cov had a 10mph limit after being treated to some of that stone chipping shite about 5 or 6 years ago. 10. On a dual carriageway. Utterly silly.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a blue passport in the house. The little mans first passport, hopefully we’ll be able to use it in January.....

At first it looks black, but if you look closely, you'll see it's very, very, very, very, very, very, very dark blue.
A bit like Carbon Black.

I'm sure Martin knows the BMW colour code for it.

I'm sure Martin knows the BMW colour code for it. No, because I don't like black cars..... That's a geekery step too far even for me, but I do actually know the paint code for Pure Metal Silver as I had to order a touch up set. It's P13, so not for the supersticious.

The idea of the masks it too limit the spread of aerosolised virus, Droplets, nothing more. To have a complete screen against transmission you would need the full medical standard system. Exactly. Only what is known as an N95 mask would protect you and others, but the advice is to not wear those so the NHS don't go short. There was a video going round where a guy was spraying a deodorant can through several different types of mask and it went straight through almost all of them. Even the three layer surgical ones only catch around 70% of what you breathe in and out, the rest goes around the sides. I've been gathering info on the supermarkets' stance on the matter, all from first hand accounts. Morrisons: insist you wear one and have a supply by the door if you say you don't have one. Asda: someone I know walked around there at the weekend without a mask on. Said people were staring at him. He then got asked by security on his way out to wear one next time he visited! Aldi: don't question customers without masks. Sainsbury's: same as Aldi.

With speedo error, you can set it at 53mph or even 55mph and still be OK. Like James, I set it to just over 50mph and it's only the occasional person travelling more quickly that's a pain.

I use adaptive cruise set to 55 and have never had a ticket but often have other cars overtake me still, some clearly doing over 60. Not sure what speed gets you in trouble but I'm not going to test it to find out!

It's not every day that one of these flies almost over your house.... I went out on the bike after lunch and as I got near home I noticed a large crowd on the green opposite the hospital. At first I thought that the fire alarm must have gone off, then I remembered reading in the week about the flypast over a number of hospitals today as a thank-you. A quick sprint back home to get a camera with long-ish lens, and I was just in time to get to the next side-road to mine and get a great view as the Spitfire circled round a couple of times before heading off to Reading.

I unlocked my car with the key today when I was walking towards the front of it (first time). The DRLs don’t come on all at once, they sort of wake up and then the row of LED blocks do a Knightrider swoosh (can’t think of a better description) backwards and forwards before switching off. I know I probably shouldn’t like it, but I did.....
I’ve not driven it in the dark yet, so haven’t tried them out but it will be interesting to see how they differ from Matrix LEDs. I know they split the beam vertically as well as horizontally, but not sure how that will be much/any better. On the RR they have 142 LEDs vs 52 for the Matrix lights, so they should be better. Won’t have the range of the laserlights in the BMW though.

Are you sure you haven't just happened on the escape route for the great mask robbery.
I agree on the status of the perpetrators - someone has to pick these up and in the current climate they probably come quite far up the list of dangerous items. It should be like the US - a fine of £1,000 would concentrate the mind a bit.

The used ones will have the DNA of the 'perp' on them. Probably not a good use of police time at the moment though! Our house is currently surrounded by corn fields and consequently there are a lot of cornflies about. 2 of them have managed to gain entry to Mrs Tim's computer monitor and are now squashed inside the screen as she wiped them away assuming they were on the outside

Most of them were near the train station. People get off the choo choo and sling the mask in the hedge.

Why aren't there any Lufthansa flights direct between Berlin and any London airport? You have to change somewhere adding 3 hours or more to the journey, whereas BA do fly direct between these two Capitals

We had a visit from one of the neighbours last night. They sold their house the day before lockdown and are hoping to move in 2 weeks time but as part of the sale process their water was tested as its a private supply (shared among 5 houses, including us). The results show E Coli plus clear evidence of lead (from the pipes)!!
What a great start to the weekend that is.
We had the water tested in January for moving but nothing like that came back.....
