There's not much you can do about old lead pipes, short of having them all replaced. But one tip from when I worked in the water industry is, on waking each morning, first flush a toilet. That will move a gallon or two of water that''s been sitting static in the pipes overnight, acquiring lead (in very small amounts) and at least disburse it into the larger volume of your water tank (or cistern depending on how it is fed).
E-Coli, however, is another matter.....

Thanks Chris, hadn't thought of that.
The pipe from the tank is cast iron but somewhere it changes. A couple of neighbours who've lived here for a long time reckon the pipe runs under the edge of our garden and then presumably splits which is where I assume the lead pipe begins. I suppose there's a chance that our section of pipe isn't lead and was replaced when the house was renovated and extended 10 years ago. If anyone needs to look they're welcome to dig that part of the garden up anyway as it has some weedkiller resistant nettles in it ......

Weedkiller? It's much more satisfying to kill them with fire. I got a weedburner and 4 cans of gas for about 12 quid a while back from a shop we have down here called Proper Job.
I love it. There's nothing like the sound of weeds crackling to death!

I've got about 2 acres of garden, half is grass, some is house/driveway and apart from some trees and bushes the rest now appears to be nettles If I went anywhere near them with a weedburner I'd probably have to put the call in to the fire brigade before I started, just to give them a head start. Friends suggested it last weekend but if I were to go down that route what I'd really need would be a flame throwing tank.

Suggestion: Not sure if this is still valid from when I worked in the water industry but worth a try. Contact your water supply company/Department. Every day they go round taking "random" samples from dozens/hundreds of houses to check water quality. Ask them to take one of these random samples from your house and to see the results. You will then get a good idea of what is actually going on with your pipes etc, and hopefully some advice if it turns out that there are traces of lead in the water. if there's E-coli in "their" part of the pipework, they will have to disinfect

Headland Relay is good for broad leaved weeks, but that may have been banned now.

Tried 3 different face masks and my specs steam up with all of them, a real safety issue. They also irritate my skin, I hate wearing them but unfortunately it has to be done at the moment. Anyway, filled the Fiesta today for the third consecutive time with £33-33's worth of fuel. Trouble is, that £33-33 buys less fuel with each visit :-( No option to pay-at-pump where I filled up Have you tried an FPP2 with the metal strip that fits more snugly across the nose? I hesitate to ask....but why £33.33? And why not fill it up and visit the fuel station less, especially when you’re not happy with wearing a mask to pay. Well, you couldn't make this up. Tonight on the way home I decided to fill the Fiesta again as it's been doing (for me) a fair number of miles in the past few weeks as I have been into work almost every weekday, and was almost down to the red on the gauge. Not caring when the cost passed £33-33, I continued until the pump cut out indicating that the tank was full. Quantity to do this? 33.33 litres !

Been finding out about pallets and trucks today, working out how many can fit on certain vehicles..... a bit of a change from "normal" work whatever that may be in these covid times. So a "normal" wooden pallet is 1200 x 1000mm and the stringers are 18mm thick. a 7.5 tonne truck has a loadbed of 5.7 x 2.2m which means quite a bit of space is wasted when you load up with "normal" pallets :-( I can get 9 per vehicle, 4 loaded in one direction and 5 loaded in the other, fully using the 2.2m width but just missing out on getting a 10th pallet. If only the truck were 300mm longer......
EDIT: If we go for a Luton or similar instead of a curtain-sided truck, the load bed is longer and I can get 10 pallets onboard, with sufficient space to slide two side-by-side :-)

Any specific reason why they need to be UK spec pallets? With Euros (800x1000) you'd get 14 on the 7.5 tonne truck and only waste 200mm on the width and 100mm on the length. You wouldn't get much more M2 of pallet space (4%) but it would be more flexible. Depends on what you're carrying though, why and how full much of the footprint of each type of pallet you'd use.

We can't get artics onto our site to deliver or collect, 7.5 tonners is generally the largest truck that can readily access our site without too many issues. Pallets have to be that size due to the cargo involved..... custom-built items and we can get 4 per pallet - pallets will be drilled out so that bolts can secure the load to them

I once went to a job interview and the guy who met me said "I'll show you what the job involves first before we have a chat because most people tell me they're not interested after the walkaround and I'll be wasting both our times"
Obviously that didn't fill me with confidence, but we went on a tour of the site anyway. This basically consisted of a small workshop where there were 3 or 4 blokes with nail guns nailing new planks of wood onto pallets. They then stuck them on a conveyor that took them into a spray booth where they were given a coat of blue paint. And that was it. I was then shown the engineer's workshop which was a shipping container with a bunch of nail gun parts in boxes in one corner and a bench. This container was right next to the rail line from London Paddington to Exeter, so every 20-30 mins a 125 went past at full pelt and shook the container so much that you thought the roof was going to cave in.
I said "No thanks" and got back in the car!

The WORST interview I had was for a training management role, turned out the company got no replies when they advertised for standing on high streets handing out leaflets for whatever. I do believe they had their advertising account dropped by several newspapers due to some judicious complaints of misleading advertising.

I once had an interview where the guy interviewing me announced he wasn’t going to offer me the job as he felt I I wasn’t aggressive enough, so I offered him out in the car park. It went downhill from there..

I take it he got "Chinned" and edjumacated. Well no, it turned out he was more keen on aggression as a concept per se, than when it was up close and personal.

Ah, the dictionary required to translate management speak. When "what do you think of this idea?" really means "I want you to tell me tis is a great idea" and so on.

It’s over 40 Celsius here today. I was sitting in the shade this morning and there were a couple of flies buzzing around so I grabbed my Bugasalt. (Salt gun that kills flies and pests. Lots of fun). put my finger on the trigger and found this: after googling, I found that it’s called a Western Black Widow. I only thought there was one type. Apparently this is also poisonous. I’ve since been arrested for setting the house on fire...

One of few that do not need an allergy to really kill you. Nasty. I take it the beast is now expired which is a shame.

Well if you only had to set your own house on fire you got away pretty lightly on the fire front. I think I'd have torched the whole street just to make sure I got the bugger.
