For the second time in as many weeks I've had to remove a live but terrified hedgehog from the dog room after it was carried in by one of the dogs. Hedgehog spines are an fantastic piece of engineering, not only preventing a pair of jaws being squeezed against them but also providing a useful cushion when they're dropped onto a solid floor.

I got an iPhone 11 a couple of weeks ago and am happy so far. Having said that the only reason for the change from my 5S was that the latter is now no longer receiving iOS updates and since I use it to keep up to date with work email when out of the office I need something that's current - otherwise it fails Cyber essentials! On the up side I got the new phone through work so the cost to me is zero.
Compared with the 5S it's a pretty big phone.

This is something I just don't get, they started out with what was essentially a house brick then went small. Now the size of these things is increasing again to the point where I just don't see the point. They are after all supposed to be 'mobile' phones are they not? Now they appear to be a slightly more portable laptop.

I had the pleasure of travelling on the Eurotunnel recently but went for a coffee and a look at the shops in the terminal before the trip. On the corridor into the toilets there are photos of famous French people over the years (and this is reciprocated on the other side of the water) but I was amused to see, next to Alain Prost, Eric Cantona and Thierry Henry, a photo of that notorious Frenchman, Rene from Allo, Allo

Compared with the 5S it's a pretty big phone. As you get older you begin to appreciate the advantages of a bigger screen!

The number of voice calls made on them gets fewer each year.

Recently I was approached by Sir Antony (Angel of the North) Gormley who was looking to suspend 7 tonne of steel mesh from the roof of the Royal Academy of Arts using 8mm rods, enabling people to walk underneath it. Apart from it being a potential H&S nightmare and logistically tricky, it turned into an enjoyable job. Antony visited and met the welding team and I think they enjoyed the change from the usual stuff. It has all now been installed and punters are walking around it. So far no-one has been flattened so all is OK.

I hope the roof is strong enough! Wouldn't catch me walking under that.

My ex-employer had a tradition that al meeting rooms in offices around the world were named after local sites or famous places. In the Irish office, the meeting rooms were named after small islands off the island of Ireland. One meeting room was called Craggy Island. A lot of visiting Americans didn't get the joke, which made it an even better joke. In the UK office we named all the rooms after castles of the UK - Windsor, St. Andrews etc. We had a Hogwarts room.

"Can someone help Katie with this one please?" Put the keys down and step away from the car Madam! And welcome to the new fad in room decor, note the comfortable wall paper and lack of interior door handle to prevent injury. Everything required for a pleasant snug stay including really fantastic fuzzy brain inducing chemicals. Not that she needs those but go the extra mile, why not?

I am getting a shed load of offers to get me the iphone 11 for £1, must either be nasty knockoffs or nasty plastic lumps or another con. You seem to have a browser and anti-virus software that blocks legitimate websites but sends you dozens of scam offers. I think I'm beginning to see a problem.

The scammers get in via outlook rather than the browser itself. Microsnot at its finest. The web sites are blocked by Snorton 360...

I've just completed a remortgage and released some dosh to cover the bathroom refurb and a couple of other things. I let Mrs Tim know the money was in my account and then texted her to jokingly say I might buy a car and included a picture of a our old Alfa GT (from the side so no number plate showing). She just emailed me to ask where it was a how much they wanted for it

Told you they were cunts. That one was a cupid stunt. I got cut up by a Range Rover today btw. Twat just pulled straight out in front of me from a side junction. Cunts don't do waiting.
ETA hopefully it's a write off. One less on the road!

Just started reading Bill Bryson's The Body.
A 1mm cube of brain has a storage capacity of around 2000Tb - enough to store every film ever made.
Not that this helps me remember what I came upstairs for...

Not that this helps me remember what I came upstairs for... I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far and found a school friend of mine noted in the footnotes on page 273. I wonder if she knows. Despite holding a degree in biology which means I did once learn a lot of what he’s written, it’s been good to revisit it in such an accessible way and I am learning some new things (I finished my degree in 2006 so some aspects of our knowledge of the body have moved on since I studied it)

Colleague at work has just qualified as a Member of the Welding Institute and they very kindly emailed him a certificate for him to print out and put on his wall.
5 mins later he got an email from the The Welding Institute saying they were updating their records and could he send them a copy of his certificate for their records..
