Currently sat on the bank of the Danube. My uncle's on a cruise up the Danube this week too. He's been in Vienna today or yesterday I think. Also been to Rogensburg according to FB.

What’s the betting I come back to it later and someone has parked millimetres away?! Its not quite as mad parking as it looks...at a charity event tonight and the main carpark is mostly covered in a marquee and there weren’t any spaces so I’m the first into the event parking area.

Why, if a dog is going to be sick, it's always on the rug, drives me bonkers! Happened with the wee guy on Wednesday; stood on the landing step and projected a waterfall of half-digested Chappie and water down the top half of the flight. All over the stair carpet runner, which necessitated removing the top two riser bars (I think that's what they're called), all of this following an evening out which had included splitting, moving and re-fitting a double bed for Herself's cousin. It was a busy night .. .. ..

As once said, the best alarm clock noise ever would be the sound of a cat or dog beginning to throw up. Get's you out of bed quicker than lightning.

I've always had a healthy fear of chainsaws, so have always worn all "the gear" to use one - hard hat with face guard and ear defenders, chainsaw leggings, chainsaw leather gloves, stout leather boots. And never use one when nobody is about. Much to the amusement I am sure of other local farmers who happily fire up their saw wearing jeans and no gloves. Anyway today I slipped while applying the chain-brake and managed to nick my leather gloves with the moving chain. No skin damage. Thank fuck for PPE!!

I have the (taped over) rips in my chainsaw leggings to remind me of how essential they are.

The very first accident that occurred after I joined my model flying club was exactly this; one of the older members, who absolutely should have known better (H&S on an oil rig!!!) was trimming some of the trees in the flight path and slipped, the chainsaw ripping his thigh open almost to the bone! Thankfully it somehow missed his femoral artery and other major ones, but he spent nearly a month in hospital after that. His bosses were not happy at all!

Just started reading this week's Autocar. They had a Bentley Conti GT on test for a few months. Gushing praise as expected. But what really struck me was the financial figures.
List price new £159,100; Price as tested £208,765k; trade in value (it's a 68 plate with 10,239 miles on the clock, so probably 6-9 months old?) £118,750k. Holy crap - that's £90,000 in 10,239 miles, or £8.80 per mile. The dealer value is stated at £148,750. That's quite a mark up for the dealer as well.

Thomas Cook.... I recall their strap line from not that long ago: "Don't just book it, Thomas Cook it".
Seems a bit like the demise of Woolworths, been trading for over 100 years so why have they not held on to some of the profits from good years to help see them through a short spell of bad times? Or don't businesses operate in such a prudent manner? Do they just operate from one trading year to the next?

A certain amount of responsibility must go to those who take huge bonus payments for short term success, not to mention the share holders little pay outs. I know, that's how the system goes but it regularly leads to boom and bust economy.

Some of the companies cited are not examples of boom/bust - they are ones who have been in long term decline.
Back on he random - WD40 is excellent at removing the stubborn horrible gummy residue left behind by stickers.

The Craptur is in for service and MOT. It's at the Volvo specialist I used previously, as they are a good garage and trustworthy, too. Cohrtesy car lottery has today provided a 2012 Mk6 Golf TDI 105 Match. Very solid, quiet, feels like it weighs as much as a fully laden van, wooden steering and a huge 105PS. Torquey, though. Craptur has issues with a split CV boot on one side, knocking from underneath and possible blowing exhaust. I'm dreading the bill, to be honest.

Where I used to work we had the monthly 'bring your dog to work day'. Much of the day was spent either trying to break up dog fights or prevent them from shagging in the middle of the office. It became a regular WFH day for me.

Went out with a driver last week and they put me with the winner of last years ‘Driver of the Year’ for that depot. Nothing particularly interesting in that, the interesting part (for me!) was that meant it was in one of the special tractor units. Each depot has one, a high spec Renault. They’re metallic grey rather than white, but it’s the extra kit inside that sets it apart. The seats looked like something out of an old Porsche if you squinted a bit and it has plenty of FG (for a truck), upgraded stereo/speakers, leather steering wheel, heated seats and as you can see from the picture, it even has seat ventilation!
