I inherited a set of hedge clippers from my grandad that had half a dozen of those on the cable. It's a wonder he lived as long as he did.

I cut the cable at the nick and trailed it across the garden and it was still just about long enough so I just reconnected it into the switch.

Facebook has just reminded me that it's 5 years ago that the Captur was delivered to me.... 16 July 2014. Where have the past 5 years gone? Incidentally it's got through 6 tyres without a puncture. 2 weekends ago, I paid the thick end of £800 for a full service, MoT, 4 new CrossClimates, full aircon drain and re-gas, brake fluid change, tracking adjustment. Apart from a few battle scars and an interior wrecked by the wife, it drives almost like new at 35,000 miles
EDIT: And I now discover that the Apollo 11 launch was on 16 July so I got the car on the 45th anniversary of the Moon Landing launch day !

Our adoptive local whilst on hols has a sheet showing their raffle winners, and one is Marco Pirroni. Might not be who I think it could be, but it's not exactly a run of the mill name.

Websites that sense you have an adblocker turned on and therefore refuse to show you their content.....
Aaaaaaargh ! I don't want to see those adverts thanks, that's why I have an adblocker. I'll just close the tab and not see anything if that's how you want it to be. I'm certainly not going to disable it just for one view of some news or whatever.
YouTube is also irritating me greatly with the amount of advertising on there too

Do you work for free Chris?
I know it is annoying, but without ads there is no content.

I use μBlock Origin which has an element picker. Hard to get right but if you do you can block the overlay asking you to turn off your adblocker!

Do you work for free Chris? It often has felt as if I do ! One basic principle of the internet is that it should be free (or has that changed as I have aged?)

Because for many years that is how the content providers promoted it. It is only recently that profit has been pushed to current levels along with tracking likely to make anyone paranoid about who knows what about us. More and more now, the tracking cookie has been used for pure profit along with the common now state where to access a site we are supposed to give access to our pc/mac so they can actively mine our computer for anything they can sell. People give this permission every day without even thinking of what it really means. Just how do we have our banking etc details nicked? By the scam sites with ad linking via google and the like getting into our systems WITH our permission.

So who do you think should pay for the website hosting, the servers, the content editors' salaries and their hardware? Even this very forum isn't free. 20 years ago magazines had a website to sign up new subscribers with a bit of free content (and ads). Paper copies sold have plummeted and more and better content has moved online. Nothing is for free, it's either behind a paywall or supported by ads (like the "free" ITV). We'll probably move to digital wallets where you pay per click. I use an adblocker. If it is flagged up I then decide if I want to pause it on that site or move on. It's no big deal.

I agree, there is no perfect solution but like any advertising is used to be covered by profits from general sales. Magazine sales etc. The way we take in news and entertainment has changed and it will take a while for the public and the content producers to come up with a method of sales that works. I am against the sites that I mentioned that say to proceed you MUST allow them to data mine your devices and sell anything they find. Facefuq anyone? I contribute to the site by choice because I feel it right to do so but like you have an ad blocker, it's no big deal and as for sites data mining, well, no chance.

From an Autocar review of the MG ZS SUV - seems in May MG sold more cars than Alfa Romeo, DS, Subaru, Lexus or Ssangyong in the UK market. Blimey!
But anyway, for every person who doesn’t take too kindly to the ZS, there are a dozen more willing to show genuinely positive interest in it. Surely that’s something MG’s UK marketing bods will be pleased to hear; it means they’re doing the right things. A glance at MG’s overall sales figures surely confirms as much: in May, the firm sold just north of 1200 vehicles – up nearly 50% from the same month last year. That figure also means that, for the month of May, MG commanded a greater share of the new car market than Alfa Romeo, DS, Lexus, Subaru and Ssangyong could each manage. At 0.66%, MG still has some way to go to topple the likes of Ford, but progress is progress.
So I looked year to date thinking this was a blip. Year to date Lexus (7432) and MG (6286) are closer.
But what about the others: DS (1831); Subaru (1363), Alfa (1862). Wow.

Filled up yesterday and it’s the first time I’ve managed over 600 miles between fill ups, only just at 603.2, but I did have over 30 miles range left. Best mpg as well, 36.8 calculated, 39.6 OBC. All business miles, so a nice £38 profit.

Profit before depreciation presumably? Every little helps and the depreciation is budgeted for so can be ignored/forgotten about! I’ve saved nearly £6k vs what I’d expected in 14 months on fuel so have a nice little extra savings pot building. Mostly job change related which has massively reduced my private mileage, but the efficiency helps.

Talking of such things, if shiny cars are more aerodynamic why are F1 cars all done in matt eggshell nowadays?

But most F1 teams use a ceramic type coating on the paint to make it smoother and stop dirt sticking. Racing Point use Gtechniq.

I did read that the rubber 'marbles' on the track are less likely to stick to the matt paint, too.
