Random fact: they're still made in Poole by the company started by the inventor. I know because I grew up in Poole and one of my mates older brothers worked at Mathmos for a bit.

New addition to household; 8 week old Working Cocker Spaniel puppy, Jasper (or Kenynten Peanut Butter to give him his Sunday name) It's been a three years since we lost our Springer - no-idea why we waited so long - he's a lot of fun.

Marvelous. Having had my ma's pup for 3 weeks whilst they were on holiday, me & kids more convinced than ever we need another. Mrs Scouse wants a family holiday this summer instead.

The good thing is my sister has his older brother, who's 2. We already look after him when they go on holiday so they can return the favour when we go away. It also means I never have to go on holiday with my sister and her husband, and kids.

I spent the morning at a GDPR seminar. Part of it was soft sell of some software to help the DPO manage the whole process.
While that may be exciting to some one other attendee noted that he was impressed at the 'templatising' of the whole process.
That nearly woke me up. I hate people like that.

Ugh. Still doesn't top my favourite - Fluid Rebalancing Opportunity as a euphemism for a piss and a coffee.

I once worked at a place where the toilets were near the stores and in those stores was a really accurate scale. We used to weigh ourselves before and after taking a piss to see who could do the biggest one. No one could, as everyone's wees were nearly always around 300 g/ml.

Awesome The guy I referred to earlier also used the word 'learnings' which is another pet hate of mine. Instead of asking 'what had been learned' from a particular process he managed to ask something like 'as you've gone through this process what learnings are there?'.

Doesn't even have the advantage of brevity. But does have the disadvantage of making you sound life a fool.

Apparently it was a deceased politician named Paul Howell... the quote from Airplane is close (according to Google) and changing subject, new computer wallpaper for me at work from today to remind me of recent travels:

Was behind an M4 tonight on the M80, doing c. 75-80mph. What a boring, tedious drone the exhaust is on these, at that sort of steady speed. Had to drop back after less than a mile, as it was actually painful to hear!

Not much traffic on the M3 this morning on my drive to work, and hardly any trucks. Pleasingly strange !

I heard one start up a few weeks ago and as the guy let it idle for 10 or 20 seconds it reminded me of a loud hammer drill going at a slow speed. Not nice.

Local boozer has put their prices up. I'm now having to pay £3 for a pint of Becks.

Sounds cheap to me. £3.60 for a real ale or Carlsberg at our local. I don't know how much San Miguel is. The Baa is £3 a pint for standard beer and lager.

Sounds really cheap to me too, well over £4 a pint for a decent pint in my local.
Went to an awards thing on Thursday in London, £9.10 plus 10% service charge for a 330ml bottle of lager. Thankfully it was on expenses, although I have paid more than 50% more than that out of my own pocket in Venice.

Becks is normally around £4 in the privately owned boozers. Say what you want about Weatherspoons, but under £3.50 for Stella/Kronenbourg, under £3 for Carling/Carlsberg/Coors and under £2 for the likes of Sharpes Doom/JohnSmiths is bloody good value.

It is cheap. I was making a jokey complaint. It was £2.75 before the price rise.
